Hi Egils, I am approaching my 76th birthday and I have been very interested in learning International Standard Slow Foxtrot while my memory loss is not too far gone. I really appreciate your attention to detail and your very thorough explanation of the steps and footwork. I have viewed many different videos by many different ballroom dance instructors and your International Standard Slow Foxtrot Basic Lesson is the very best. I know it takes a lot of time and preparation to produce such a great ballroom dance lesson video. I hope to be enjoying your videos for many years to come. Thank you for sharing!!! :-)
These tutorials just keep getting even better. This basic slow foxtrot tutorial is fabulous. Many thanks Egils. It's very much appreciated. Greg & Gill Greenhalgh (U3A Ballroom Dancing). Cockermouth, Cumbria, England
I honestly know nothing about ballroom dancing, but I find it to be really beautiful! I have a favorite song I'd love to know which dance is appropriate for. The cover of "Walking in the Air" by Chloe Agnew is a very dreamy, beautiful song, but I'm confused of whether to do a slow foxtrot, or a waltz to it. The slow foxtrot has the same time as the song, 4/4, but the gliding, flow, and rise and fall of a waltz is also just as beautiful with that song. Would both dances be able to work with the song? I understand a waltz is in 3/4, but is it possible to modify/adapt it if it isn't being done professionally?
Fantastic professor! I’m not too clear on the “release” and “no release “. Is it outside and inside hold? Thank you so much for what you do professor. Is there a great ballroom culture in Latvia, meaning popular?
Thanks for your question. “Release” here means release front Toe from floor; and “no release” means dance with toe in contact with floor. Hope this helps!
Outside Step is connected with body rotation in relation to feet. For example in Feather step (Man’s steps) we rotate body to right in second step so that position is called left side lead. Therefore next step we dance outside partner and with feet in one line (CBMP).
Hi Egils, I watch your dance videos frequently. In slow foxtrot, what is meant by "release and no release from foot"?Can you please describe the leg actions to explain.Thank you.Gary Choo
Hi Gary, thanks for important question. Release or no release refers to free Foot when we move backwards. Release means that Toe of Free Foot is released from floor (but Heel is in contact with floor. No release means that Toe of Free Foot is not released from floor (but heel is lifted from floor). Hope it helps. Egils
Roger, when Man moves basic backward on second quick he dances "no release" because in previous step he has Foot rise. Lady in same movement has no Foot rise (she rises in legs and body, but not in feet) therefore Free Foot dances "release". Hope it helps. Egils
Not sure I correctly understand your question. There are many more basic figures, but these are one should start with. Here is video with 46 figures from WDSF syllabus ua-cam.com/video/UYv60tFEYls/v-deo.html
How come none of these tutorials demonstrate how the dance times up with actual music? No one dances to a recitation of slow-slow-quick-quick, right? The song here is added on top and doesn't match the time of the dance.
l enjoyed jor basic fox tutorial as well as jor basic tutorials. however, this last one the lighting on some sections of the studio was poorly lit. I could not c jor footwork clearly. other than that, everything else was good. thanks for sharing.
Ovviamente molto istruttivi i video, ma perchè non proporli in lingua italiana? Sarebbe molto ma molto più istruttivo e comprensibile. Grazie. Vito Leo

How do you know what step is coming next when social dancing or is it all choreographed beforehand?
Man leads Lady with body weight (direction and timing) so it’s possible to lead if Lady knows figures.
