    6:38 watching your video again 🙂. I wish the international half actually went through the Dequindre Cut, it's really nice to run there, and heading south is fast/easy to run being a false flat that is a slight downhill heading south.

    Just wanted to say thanks - ran the marathon over the weekend and this course preview helped a ton. That warning about the giant incline getting onto the bridge was super helpful. Definitely would've blown up way too early otherwise!

      Awesome, that’s great to hear! Congrats on the run! I definitely learned about that incline the hard way one year. Thanks for watching!

    Great video thanks man. I am running my first marathon this year and very excited. Good to know that hard part of previous years course is taken out.

    Great review! Thank you. Looks like a nice course upgrade. I had to defer to 2023 but looking forward to running it then.

    Hello, what’s the elevation/hills like? I’ll be in the handcycle division. Thank you 😊

    • @FreshBrewRunClub
      @FreshBrewRunClub  5 місяців тому

      It’s fairly flat (based on the 2023 course), with the exception of the bridge to Canada (at 2 miles) and tunnel back to the United States (at mile 7). Some elevation maps actually show the bridge as a dip, because it’s going by the riverbed. Otherwise, elevation stays within about a 25 foot difference.

    So first time doing the Detroit marathon - I was told hydration packs would be confiscated by the border… is that true?

    • @FreshBrewRunClub
      @FreshBrewRunClub  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah, there’s a chance you’ll be stopped and it’ll be confiscated. It’s in the hands of the border patrol and not the race organizers. However, there are plenty of hydration stations along the course

      I was bummed about this as well. My plan is now zippered flip belt for basic needs (nutrition, passport, etc) and a handheld for fluids.

      I’m actually thinking of having my husband do a hydration vest “hand off” after returning to the US…

      In the Before Covid Times, I've done the International half Marathon several times and I've run with a hydration belt all the time. The water bottles on a hydration belt are like 7 to 10 oz. So it's not a pack, it's a belt, I don't know if that helps or not. But I will be wearing it in this year's race with two water bottles. If they make me dump it out so be it, I'll refill it at the next water station 🙂.

    Cool video, thanks! I’m running this race for the first time this year, & I’m looking forward to it! Looks like they took out the major hill on mile 25. Are there any other hills, besides that slight, steady incline you mentioned?

    • @FreshBrewRunClub
      @FreshBrewRunClub  2 роки тому +1

      Looking at the course elevations, you will be going up the bridge and up out of the tunnel. There's also a smaller, but steep hill around 8.6 miles as you go away from the river (its similar to that tough hill at mile 25 on the old course). Finally, the long straightaway heading NE on Lafayette at mile 19 is a slight incline, but could be tough since its about 2 miles. More info here: www.plotaroute.com/routeprofile/1933506

    First time running a marathon after 12 weeks of training first time running the Detroit Free Press marathon so I’ve read in the comment that the US customs are going to seize hydration packs. I don’t know if this is true or not but I am going to the expo on the 14th to get checked in and get my bib do you mind just giving me some quick tips going into this marathon anybody?

    • @FreshBrewRunClub
      @FreshBrewRunClub  2 роки тому +1

      Couple tips:
      -Run your pace at the beginning. I always get too amped up, and when I hit the bridge at mile 3, I get into trouble, as it's almost a mile uphill. Don't end your race right at the beginning by getting too excited.
      -Sometimes people hand out small cups of beer in the Indian Village portion. That's always fun!
      -I park at the One Campus Martius or Z Lot garage. They aren't immediately next to the start, but close enough that a small jog will get you to the convention center in a few minutes.
      -I put my enhanced ID/passport in a ziplock bag, and then safety pin the bag to the inside of my shorts pocket. I am paranoid about dropping it and getting stuck in Canada haha.
      You've inspired a video idea for me! Hopefully I have time to shoot it before the race.

    Do they make all race participants pre-clear Customs head of time? I've only been to Canada twice and both times got detained & searched by Canadian customs because I didn't have an established itinerary when queried. Both times was just planning on a quick day-trip... riding some roads, looking at scenery, and trying an 'authentic' Canadian meal, which is apparently Italian food in Sault Ste. Marie.

    • @FreshBrewRunClub
      @FreshBrewRunClub  2 роки тому

      I haven’t seen the official process yet, but in years past when you sign up, you put in your passport and contact info in ahead of the race. You need to carry your passport (or Michigan enhanced ID) with you in the race in case they do pull you off the course crossing the border. However that doesn’t seem to happen very often, as long as your race bib is visible. You basically just keep running though customs, but there’s lots of security. I also think you need a covid vaccination card this year.

      @@FreshBrewRunClub Ah interesting. It's been a long time since I visited. Early 00's. Back then they didn't require U.S. residents to present a passport. Just needed a driver's license. I guess times have changed.

      For sure. I used to take field trips to Canada back before 9/11; they’d just drive a bus full of kids across the border and back like it was nothing
