So, that was just the coolest thing, EVER. I loved your step by step. I hope I can make something as lovely for my special friends for the Holidays. Thank you.😃
Ah thank you so much!! So glad you liked the video :) Christmas making is definitely getting underway now hehe! Im sure you friends will be very happy xx
I am always looking for projects to do with my students. This is definitely on the list. I especially like your technique on the gallery. The kids like making “treasure boxes.” Now they will have a new word for them.
Hi...(from New Jersey in the USA) just found your video and I want to THANK YOU for showing me how you do your (what we call Trinket) Boxes! I never ever thought of using a block of clay to form the box! that is AWESOME! and SO MUCH BETTER than forming individual sides and then trying to get them straight while attaching! Thank You again! Hope to see more of your videos!
Hello to you in New Jersey!! Im so glad you found it helpful :) I hope you find this way a little easier and do let me know if you have any questions!! x
Thank you for sharing your making process. It's a very complete tutorial that is easy to understand. I make planters kurinuki planters but not a box - I will give it a go - they look so nice. Love the glaze - it breaks so beautifully over your carvings.
Hi I love the organic look of the boxes and I would love to Raku glaze one however your glaze looks stunning on the texture. I would love your glaze recipe as I'm finding the bought glazes so expensive now. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my glob! I've fallen in love with kurinuki recently and really love all of your tutorials but this one in particular. Maybe because I get to meet you too. 😊 In any case, thanks so much for sharing this.❤ It's wonderful.
Ah thank you! That's so lovely to read :) Really happy your have found and fallen in love with kurinuki!! I love sharing the techniques and very excited for your pottery journey too :)
What a lovely box! And made so nicely. Love your glaze too. Pity I just made my first Kurinuki cylinder and hadn’t seen this. Will try the box now. Thank you!
I'm brand new to your site...and really enjoyed what I've watched of yours. This was super interesting to watch...I really want to give it a go!! I'm in a retirement community, we have a really nice studio here, about 200+ potters, & I don't believe I've ever seen anyone attempt this technique before, and we have some very talented folks that have been playing in mud for a great number of years. I can possibly turn a few of them on to something new in the handbuilding style....if i can pull this off...lol! My only attempt at a box was in my 1st few months of working with clay, it was a lil wonky for sure...this seems so much easier...or maybe your excellent skills make it so! Thank you for sharing this with us.
Hi Lisa! Wow your retirement community sounds dreamy!! Lovely to be surrounded by potters :) Yes please share with your follow ceramists. I hope you find this technique a nice alternative to slab building - I find it a more free way to work with clay! Do let me know if you have any questions xx
Thank you! The first one in the video is one plus 7% copper glazy.org/recipes/112401and the one in the pic at the end of this one glazy.org/recipes/112401
Thank you for a great video, I will give this a try. You mention the recipe for the glaze, I don't seem to be able to find it? I'm very new to glazing so it's always helpful to see what people use. It certainly breaks very nicely over the texture. And can I ask that you please have a longer still image at the end of your video, so we can better appreciate the finished box :-)
Thank you Im glad you enjoyed the video! Yep I will be sure to leave the image up for longer next time - thanks for letting me know! This is the glaze I used on the box in the photo glazy.org/recipes/112401
Sure - this is the green glaze I show in the video glazy.org/recipes/112401 (with 7% copper), and this is the blue glaze in the photo at the end - glazy.org/recipes/78051
Hey thank you for watching! Yes I dry and fire with the lid on. For drying you just have to make sure the clay isn't too wet/sticky and the lid can come off so it doesn't get stuck. I think you can also fire the lid and container separately if you want - I just like to do it together so I know the fit will be nice.
@@BlankEarthCeramics Hi! You said in the video you'd make a video or blog about what to do about the cracks that form with Kurinuki (to answer someone's email concern to you). Wondering where that is. Thanks
Such a unique and courageous approach to hand building. Thank you for sharing your work.
Thank you! Im so glad you enjoyed it and thank you for your kind words xx
Is unique and very well done but for the love of God it's not courageous. Dear Lord.
Beautiful work! I always enjoy seeing other potters work. We all inspire each other
Thank you so much Sharon! I totally agree with you :)
Have a wonderful day

Nice projects:)
You can prevent cracking by adding some grain to the clay, make thinner walls and control drying for longer period of time.
Excelente trabajo muy original
Thank you!
Gorgeous! Do you clean the edges while you sculpt or you leave Them as the come?
Thank you! Do you mean when I carve the texture on the outside? That I leave but on the inside of the box I sponge down two smooth the surface :)
I love these!! I’ve made cups but never thought of making a box! Thanks soo much. Do you leave this covered for a long time so it dries slowly?
Ah amazing hope they turn out well! I don't usually but if you find your clay cracks covering will definitely help! XX
Hey loving your work. Just wanting to know where you get your makers stamps from please. Thanks Julian
omg this is the prettiest glaze I've ever seen, how is it called and where can I find it? thank you so much

Does the 7% copper give the blue color on the piece at the end of video?
Sorry I put the wrong link in for the blue glaze - here is the right one: glazy.org/recipes/78051 Sorry about that! @@LB-vh1ve
Where did you find out about this technique?
What clay would you recommend for this?
Most clays that have some grog in it will work fine :)

great thanks.. definitely going to give it a go.. *note to self.. *this time, let the thing get leatherhard before you start carving - be patient :Oo
Haha pottery is all about learning patience!! Easier said than done lol
Do you dry and fire with the lid on, or separate from the container? *before glazing
