Making pottery pumpkins for incense this autumn - Halloween is coming!
Hi Friends!
In this tutorial I show you how I make these new pottery pumpkins for incense cones and tealights. I take you through each step: throwing on the wheel, trimming, carving, and glazing before firing in the kiln. You can see them all finished at the end along with lots of other pumpkin pieces I’ve been working on for autumn and Halloween!
These will be going on the website for my next Kiln Opening on Sun 6th Oct at 3pm BST.

    These are lovely. I’m inspired to make one. My only hesitation is the reclaim process. Would love to see a video on how you manage. I haven’t seen one, but perhaps I’ve overlooked it. Thanks for sharing your process

    • @BlankEarthCeramics
      @BlankEarthCeramics Місяць тому

      Yes I won't lie the reclaim process its a bit of a task, I have plastic boxes all along the top of my shelves that I dry all the scraps in and then reclaim them in buckets then dry on plaster batts. I'm always in a cycle of reclaiming so I don't let it build up haha! My dream for the future would be a pug mill. It's one of those things that you get used to an incorporate into the day. I might include it in a video in the future - maybe one about the annoying but essential tasks to keep the studio running. Thank you for watching! x

      @@BlankEarthCeramics thanks for this! I reclaim all my throwing bits, but the carving you do seems like…a lot. Helps to know you dry it out first. I really am interested in trying bc I hate building with slabs, I think I just need to try

    Hey Su, i adore your videos! I'm thinking of buying a rohde ecotop 43l or 60l. Are you happy with yours? Would you buy it again? I really want to make miniatures and maybe a few mugs i think a kiln like big Alice will be waaayyy overkill for what i need. Are there any reasons you use that one over your ecotop, other than size? X

    • @BlankEarthCeramics
      @BlankEarthCeramics Місяць тому

      The Rohde ecotops are great smaller kilns - the 43l was really easy to use and suited us at the start we just out grew the size but for what you are wanting to make it sounds perfect x
