- During March 2022, International Women's Month Impilo Collection Foundation distributed 6000 bras to 13 different organisations all across Gauteng and comprised of Gender Based Violence shelters, impoverished girl’s schools, orphanages as well as homes for the disabled. Some of these included Kids Haven in Benoni and Tembisa Child and Family Welfare, both of which the Impilo Collection Foundation has established and maintained a close relationship with since 2020, during the height of the COVID - 19 pandemic.
On the distribution days, all of the recipients were measured by Impilo warriors, all of whom closed their businesses for the day, to establish their correct bra size and were then gifted with two perfectly fitting bras, so that they always have one to wear when the other one is being washed. All of the women were so grateful and felt so confident wearing their new bras. They also shared with us how much these bras were going to change their lives. The young girls said that they would now feel comfortable playing sport at school because they have a decent bra to keep them secure and the older women told us that they now feel safe to wear all of their clothing in public without attracting unwanted sexual attention from men, because they had a bra.
The #EmpowerHer bra drive distribution changed 3 000 women’s lives for the better and is an initiative that the Impilo Collection Foundation pledges to undertake annually to end the cycle of Gender Based Violence.
