I’m takin my Randy II to Key West FL Labor Day weekend. Be interesting to see if I hear any locals down there? I have the telescopic antenna too, and it works great around where I live. Works great on my Wilson 1000 too.
I have the realistic branded version of those radios. A TRC216 and a TRC217. Up until those HYS 52 inch whips started showing up those old radios were the best portables simply for the antenna. I always wondered why there were no long BNC whips made for CB since I have a Diamond RH205 for 2m vhf band that's basically the same size. Was excited when they finally came out.
Do not believe this video I Purchase one of these handheld radios will not get out if you’re in a truck will not get out if you stand in your car to talk to somebody 200 yards away will not get out, so don’t fall for this trick
Radios don't like being inside cars because the signal can't out. That is why cber's put antennas OUTSIDE on the roof of their vehicles. Conmect your handheld to an external antenna and it will work beautifully.
Wow 6-7 on the president portable and 8 on the base. Not too far apart.

Interesting test. I have one similar to the GE (a Realistic) and I suspect similar performance.
