    Of course I watched this video after buying the SP connect while owning an iphone 12 pro. To be honest I like the cover. And I like the way the SP connect looks opposed to the quadlock. Anyway I will start using it now. Great video btw.

    Great review (seeing it for first time). I've had my SP Connect stem mounts on two bikes for about 2 years now - a Ducati V4S and an old but beloved Honda VFR. Very happy with them. The stem mount in particular is a weak point for QL if the bike has large diameter steering tube - people use a cheap and flimsy toggle bolt to make it work which is asking for trouble (better to use a piece of vinyl tube) - but a few different mounts are available. And some either love or hate the QL three-legged anti-vibration device - SP's is more subtle in style. But both systems have their pros/cons as you pointed out and, really, both are fantastic. One point I don't understand - you said quality is better with QL. I can't fault SP - being CNC aluminium mine look brand new after 2 years. One thing I didn't like about QL when I was shopping and looking at other bikes was the faded plastic look. But one thing in favour of QL is the ease of switching from landscape to portrait - although in practice after playing around for a few weeks I never wanted to change it. I did note that QL was often on special so much better price-wise but for me the quality was far better with SP. I also have the SP power units and they have been completely weather proof where the QL units had that issue with the cable socket - I don't know if that's still current. But again by the time you buy all the bits and pieces...mount+cover, anti-vib, power unit, special cable...QL can offer a large cost saving over the similar kit from SP-Connect. But both are excellent products.

    Been using quad lock for 4 years and the mount itself is still working fine , but I'm not using a case as I'm using a phone brand that they don't have a case for , so I'm using a universal adapter which uses 3m tape but surprisingly it held out for 3 years without falling out even once . Now I've changed phones and bought the universal adapter again for my current phone and it's been 1 year since then and it's still working fine . Also I'm working as a delivery rider all this while so that thing is under the sun/rain 8-10hours a day . No regrets buying quad lock 👍

      Oh yeah forgot to add that I'm using a rugged phone so it's pretty heavy and the 3m tape for the universal adapter held out just fine . I can't say for dirt bike riding or riding over 150km/h though as I haven't done any of those two 😅

    Thanks for that video, very useful. I'm having a SP mount and I use it for both my race bike and my mountain bike. I decided for SP because of the bundle that comes with 2 mounts and a case so it was quite cheap to equip both bikes. The reason why I watched that video is because I'm not 100% happy with the system. Theoretically it is super easy to mount it as use just have to turn it 90° but to me it happens so often that I don't push the iphone completely flat onto the mount before turning. Result: the mounting system on the back of my phone is turned like 15° and you can't mount it anymore on the bike. Without a tool it is quite difficult to bring it back to its original position and it is really frustrating. The second big thing is that it just don't really locks/snaps after turning it 90°. So if you touch it with your knee or you it is super windy it can happen that the phone turns a little bit. And last but not least the micro stem mount persists of two parts (at least the one I got from the bundle). One part is kind of a screw and mounted to the bike, the other piece of plastic is just mounted to the screw itself. It happened to me not only once that the plastic thing slipped out of the screw - happily I always noticed it before my phone felt down. No idea if others also had that kind of problems but would be interesting to hear.

    • @yodomcat
      @yodomcat  3 роки тому +1

      That is the problem with easier slip on you have easier chance to slip out! No such issue with QuadLock because of the “click”, however it takes a while to get the nack to get it on.

      Hi Guiseppe and Dom Cat, i am really glad to read that i am not the only one with SP problems. The SP company makes me always feel all problems are my one fault wich is definitely not. We use the SP products mostly on our mtb's while we are enduroing or downhilling. We also had the plastic converter fall out of the stem mount with the result a samsung got lost. I also had severall times that the phone has turned 90 degrees and luckely saw it falling. Also several times it turned between 0 and 90 degrees. On a really steep trail with fast short turns and bumpy ground i think it's not reliable.
      The first stemmount got loser everytime and the bold pulled trough the plastic. Not possible they said but second one i have bought had an modification and better constuction. Finaly, the zippers of the cases, wedgecase and saddlecase, suck. Almost immediately the zipper opened the wrong way so the zippertooth don't fit in eachother anymore. I had 4 cases ( also 2 under warranty ) and they all have the same. Of course there was some stuff in. If you use it almost empty i will hold. My saddle case with bikestuff and my keys once opened during biking and how great is was that my girl was riding behind me and warned me.
      Again, we have never had these problems they said making me feel like i don't know what i am doing. The thing is you start with this gear and before you know you invested a few hundred euro's when using it in several cars and on several bikes. I gues i am gonna try Quadlock. One thing, if you look for SP-connect and Garmin the offer an mount with lock, why not on all the mounts ;-)
      PS the case for my galaxy s20 sucks as well compared to the galay s7 case. I fits perfect and took quit some bumps but the part where you push the power, sound up&down buttons is so stiff you have to hold the phone with 2 hands to make sure it doesn't slip out of your hands.

    Not having a bike, but a scooter (BMW C600 Sport), I cannot use any SP-connect/QuadLock mount, as the handlebar / Stem / Mirrors etc, are all mounted behind plastic covers. The only option for me, AFAIK, was the RAM Brake/Clutch Reservoir mount. But like most people, I canot get used to the RAM X-Grip permanently changing the volume...
    Looking at the differences between SP-Connect and Quadlock, Both companies have the RAM 1" ball adapter. However, The QuadLock RAM adapter is compatible with the QuadLock version of the anti vibration dampener, while the SP-Connect RAM Ball adapter version is not compatible with SP-Connect version of anti vibration dampener.
    The SP-Connect site go as far as to say, NOT to use the RAM ball mount adapter with any phone that has OIS (Optical Image stabilzer). I don't know what it will do do with lower spec phones that only has EIS (Electronic Image Stabilizing).
    Thus, I could only go the Quad Lock route..

As far as I understand not only is the SP-Connect case officially MagSafe certified, it is also thinner which kinda speaks for wireless charging compability against the thicker quadlock. I've had a QuadLock on my Harley for quite a few months now, having realised my eBay cheapy special just wasn't making the grade. I hadn't even heard of SP Connect until it started popping up on my Facebook feed a few days ago. They look very much the same sort of thing, present in the same fashion, accessories are much the same - all as you say here. But what I have found that I really, really don't like is, comments on SP Connect's Facebook feed disappear at a rate of knots! Any post thread you find on their page will have many more comments than they show - which means they're deleting comments all over the place. I put a comment on myself, just noting that isn't this just the same sort of thing as QuadLock and, sure enough, it got deleted.
    I find that underhand - if people have something to say about your product, you should let them (profanity notwithstanding, of course). If it's negative, then improve. If it's positive, it's great advertising. Either way, deleting comments - lots of them! - just makes the company looks shady. On that basis alone I would never get SP Connect, but it was good to see your comparison video just the same, thanks.
