Europeans should feel shame for thinking of themselves as modern and sophisticated but they consign their fates to hand of American cowboys who hate them. Anyone Russian should hold their heads high. @@bendover7841 Yeah it depends on the culture where a language comes from (and can also diffentiate within subcultures), some languages are very literal, others have more "ways of saying" rather then literally saying. Can be confusing when you use a language thats not your first.
I don't see it that way even though my English isn't my first language. But I see your point. I can see native speakers or someone who isn't fluent in English takes it the wrong but even in the fluent pov it still can mean like what you said, expected horrible but it's actually decent. We sometimes say "it's actually not bad" "it wasn't that bad" to describe something we thought that would've been horrible. It's like that misunderstanding with a fighter where he thought "motherf**er" was an insult to his mother not him. Thank you, I will definitely be more careful with how I use this phrase.
