- You asked for it! We bring you another great episode of This Old Bench, featuring EQD super collector Max Reff with the very rare Blaster Fuzz!
As always he is joined by our lovely host Justin Seeker, and EQD’s founder, President, and Lead Designer Jamie Stillman.
Max shares how determined he was to track down this pedal, and how he lucked out when approaching John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats to see if he was willing to part with his. Though this Blaster Fuzz wasn’t working when Max got it in his hands, we were lucky we had the man who built it, Jamie Stillman there to fix it up for him!
We hope you enjoy this episode as Jamie reminisces on the old pre-EarthQuaker Devices days.
Huge shout out to Max Reff for taking a visit to Akron and sharing your legendary EQD collection with us all!!

I could watch you build/fix pedals all day!
This is so wholesome and wonderful, like a EQD time capsule of awesomeness 😊
Such a rare find!!! Glad it has new life now and we could hear how great it sounds!
Those arpeggios make that fuzz sound but in strumming sounds more like an overdrive. Cool!
I love how once a collection starts it becomes an uncontrollable obsession. I’ve been there, many times.
At least i get to share the fruits of that obsession with you all so it makes it worth it!
Spill the beans on the circuit? Transistors?! Op Amp?! It does sound cool, even if not quite ‘blasty’ enough ha!
Sitting on my Sofa with a cup of coffee and a new episode of This Old Bench. Life is good!
Cheers!
i love john and the mountain goats, really interested to see what tracks he used it on. my best memory of the mountain goats is in sydney at the metro theatre, john finished his set and came down into the crowd and just appeared in front of me. all i thought to do was hug him
He told me he used to use it live on tours
This series is so great
Thank you for the words "reflowing the solder joints". Now I have new hope for a broken project of mine, a messy Bronx Cheer I decided to resolder and killed with my own inexperienced hands.
Let the solder flow!
I love these episodes! ❤
we need more max on this old bench! all the max, please!
Thank you!! Fingers crossed!
Yayyyyyyy we LOVE YOU MAX you're the best🖤🖤🖤
Thank you!!! I love you too!
if only all repairs were just reflowing solder! More of these, please. especially ones that show slightly more complicated repairs.
Noted
Would love to see a re-issue of this and the Fantastic Beast with the same graphics and layout.
❤ Max Reff and EQD!
dynamic duo!
Love this Series! Keep the great content coming EarthQuaker peeps!!
Thanks!
Love this!
That's dope!
I was like oh cool we are going to see an episode where they fix the pedal... touch one thing and it works... 😂 i love these episodes, EQD pedals are great! I own 10 of your devices (new versions) and they're fantastic
In all fairness he fixed it
Quick fixes are the best! thanks for watching!
4:55 hah, that's what a cool guitar sound does to guitar people 😀
Hell yea brother
Love these vids.
Awesome
Fond memories of the days Jamie would post up small runs of pedals online, watching the evolution of the hoof and the transition from the line art to a house style. Crazy what you all have accomplished.
What was this circuit based on?
Thanks, we appreciate the support! That circuit is truly a one off design!
Sounds awesome❤ some real girth there. I like it!
Hey I’ve been trying to lose weight lol
Love it. Such a nice sound.
Thanks for listening
I HAVE that book, Devils Demons and Witchcraft! My dad gave it to me when I was probably about 8 years old. (yeah, dint read too much into that. He's a great dad and only HALF crazy) Yeah, the copies of the woodcuts in it are awesome. Great choice, man.
Very cool!
@@EarthQuakerDevices I think so. Even cooler is showing this video and our ccmmrnents and replies and he stopped and was thinking DEEPLY for a while. When he began talking to me it was in the subject of the "possibly' he enriching my childhood with the weird, cool stuff he gave and bought me. I told him he most absolutely did, as I eyed the stack of old Lancer Conan paperbacks with Frazetta covers he'd gotten me as a 1 st grader. How could he ever doubt? I love my dad. Thanks Jamie and Earthquaker. You guys are doing the same for my "adult" years. I owe.
**immediately pulls up eBay**....."Devils, Demons, & Witchcraft" 😂😂
I definitely grabbed a copy right after this haha
Fantast-each!
Ah just like how my afterneath came without the switch soldered
Oh no! If it hasn't yet been resolved you can always use this form: www.earthquakerdevices.com/consumer-repair
He’s backkkkkk
The horrors persist but so do I! 😊
Great vid. Which EQD pedal would sound closest to this (or Jamie's)?
It's pretty unique in it's design! maybe similar to some of our other overdrive pedals
a tub of wax , but NEVER flux .
