Constantine VII (944-959) | Byzantine History

- After a life spent in the shadow of power, Constantine VII got his first chance to rule for real in 944, taking on the challenge of continuing the Empire's resurgence. Despite being middle-aged by the standards of the time, he had no experience of ruling - so would Byzantium prosper under his rule?
All Greek pronunciations are according to the modern standard. (Or, rather, my butchering of the modern standard.)

OH MY GOD HE LIVES!
I don't plan on dying quite yet!
@@Serapeum do you have any schedule of release or should we go to hagia sophia to pray?
@@Serapeum Spoken like emperor Heraclius himself!
Sorry babe not now, new Serapeum Historia vid just dropped
Glad to see you've got your priorities straight lol
The late 900s to the early 1000s was really Byzantium at its best outside of Maurice and Justinian's reign.
Rome during Komnenian era was good too
@@justinianthegreat1444 No. At that point, they were just flip-flopping between helping the Crusaders and sabotaging them. There was no honor or righteousness there. Just them patching up a sinking ship with rivets and duct tape.
You choose Maurice over Heraclians, Issaurians, Komnenos and Laskarids?
@@HolyknightVader999 Rome during the Komnenian period was still great, when did they sabotage the crusaders? Manuel even married a Crusader princess and held a great level of power over them.
@@HolyknightVader999 you mean when Bohemond fucked Alexios over?

After he ascended as the new Autokrator, why Constantine VII did not improve the relations between the Roman Empire and the Khazar Khaganate? What stopped him from doing so? Plus, this means improving the relations with the Jews that reside with the Empire as well.
Sorry man but nobody really had a high opinion of Jews in that time
@@hopeundertheblacksun I know that. But the strategic alliance with the Khazars are also important. But just like the Bulgarians, the Rus' are not always on the friendly terms with the Romans. So it is better to have someone to help in this matter. In this case, preventing the Rus' from coming to Constantinople when the relations between the Romans and Rus' go soured.
@@lerneanlion meh the jews were irrelevant most of the time
@@hopeundertheblacksun And the Rus' were such reliable allies for the Romans, were they?
@@lerneanlion nah but the Romans beat their ass so it's okay
Another good one
Constantine VII was a good Emperor
nice video. keep on going.
I am in greece right now, went to a few byzantine museums. You would be surprised but honestly Byzantine/Roman Artwork/Building/Pottery its all the same nothing changed. The only thing changed is the paintings of christ vs Statues.
Berengar was married with Anna Augusta, the daughter of Emperor Leon VI, and widow of Louis l'Aveuglé, King of Italy and occidental emperor901-905 .
This could explain why Berengar was trying to meddle with byzantine politics ?¡¿
YAY, MISSED YOU!
Where have you been? I always check yur channel to see if youve apploaded.
