- Jack Nicholson's third film appearance ever in 1960 was an iconic cameo in Roger Corman's cult classic "Little Shop of Horrors." In this clip, Nicholson has a severe addiction to pain that brings him to the dentist where Seymour unwittingly gives him a checkup.
Little Shop of Horrors premieres on Ovation Tuesday, July 6th at 8pm ET/PT.

I love how on the VHS cover, Jack Nicholson is written across in big letters. He has a less than five minute cameo.
I saw a poster for the movie with Nicholson holding (presumably) Audrey Jr. in his hands as the main focus.
Corman was shameless when it came to marketing.
He was unknown when the movie was released. This was his first movie role. But he’d eventually become the most well-known actor in the movie. 😊
Ironically, the same character in the musical film in 1986, played by Bill Murray, ALSO overshadowed the rest of the plot and characters for many viewers, despite only having a few minutes of screentime.
@@amselby81 Nicholson's first movie was called The Cry Baby Killer (1958).
I just learned that this movie was literally thrown together like an afterthought. The set was leftover from another movie, and was only available for 2 days of filming. Corman was like, “Say. I wonder if I can make a movie with this opportunity?” Griffith wrote the script in about 2 weeks, and they filmed it in 2 days. And to think how it blew up into a cult classic, off-Broadway musical, and then a successful musical film.
I think you got this confused with The Terror.
@@dd-hp5oj nah. It’s in a video called “Little Shop of Horrors- The Making Of.” Roger Corman is in the video, and he explains how the original movie was made.
This is the exact plot of A Bucket of Blood, the movie which this movie reuses sets of. Apparently it's better than this one, I haven't seen either though
Also, there was an animated series, aimed at a children's audience, and where the plant acted not as a villain, but as a quite positive or neutral character.
Nevertheless, I don’t like Nicholson’s performance. It’s like he’s imitating the overrated Jerry Lewis, poorly. Needless to say, he would go on to do better things.
2:50 "OhmyGAHD don't stop now"! Classic and unforgettable.
I like the thought that this character has a group of mashochist friends that just go around finding the worst doctors to send each other to.
It's this scene that makes me think Burton knew what he was doing when was casting Jack as the Joker.
Nicholson should have used this voice and demeanor, he would have beat out Ledger (who I assume saw this and went with a meek but violent character for the joker?).
@@Bellabaddi I've heard a lot of rumors that Ledger based his Joker off of Tom Waits. Which makes a lot of sense. Hunched over, kinda gravely voiced, and looking like he either just got out of bed or needs to be in one.
The plastic surgery set was recycled from the Little Shop musical!
What's really funny is Joker's doctor used the same tools Steve Martin used in the 1986 remake of Little Shop of Horrors. You see them when he opens the drawer. Steve Martin used those tools on Bill Murray who played this character.
I'm in terrible pain
*Masochistic giggle*
The way he giggles like a little masochistic school girl just crack me up.
If they were to ever remake this movie again, they'd better choose an amazing actor to be able to compete with not only Jack Nicholson, but Bill Murray as well!
Julian Cardona Well, he sounds like iDubbbz.
Julian Cardona they did as a musical in 1986.
@@nhmooytis7058 Right, hence why I said "again". Bill Murray played the role in the musical.
@@killer429 This character does not appear in the stage musical. If they did it again, he would probably be left out again.
Paul Dano
Hey its idubbz
Just watching the movie for the first time and as soon as I saw and heard Jack Nicholson in it I thought of Ian.
It's uncanny
Holy crap. The way he looks, the way he sounds, and the way he talks is exactly like 2015-era iDubbbz. It's almost like they teleported Ian to 1960 and cast him in this movie. It's dead on.
2:48 Always has me cracking up for some reason. Though i was born in 92 so i've never Heard of this Movie, nor anything about Jack Nicholson until some years ago, after seeing him in Batman
He almost got more credit than the man playing Seymour! Woah!
However, he deserved the praise!
Maria: The Demon Barber of UA-cam ironically at the time the actor playing Seymour was much more well known, funny how that changed....
his voice is so wonderful, holy shit❤️
Wow. One of my Favorite actors (Jack Nicholson) before he really got recognition for his years of struggle in Hollywood.
My ex who did impressions used to introduce himself at parties in Jack’s voice saying “Hi, I’m Wilbur Force.”
Finally! I've never seen the original movie. This was Bill Murray's character in the 80s musical remake.
IT'S THE JOKER!
Can't help but see the Joker when I was watching this.
Le cri géniale et le "oh my god don't stop now' 😂😂😂😂😂
This feels like an SNL skit, but without a laugh track!😅
To think this nutty character would go on to be one of the greatest actors of all time.
I love jack nicholson in htis movie
This is amazing 👏 wonderful film
You can't handle the tooth! ...
...I'll show myself out.
brainstewX I thought it was an A+ comment ;).
Not a bad pun. Made me chuckle.
You can't help but think even Jerry Lewis couldn't have done this better than Jack. He was the master of audacity.
When Jack Nicholson was still trying out how to act like like himself. Afterwards, he learned to do that a bit easier, to tune it a bit down (mostly...) or how you say it, but still being himself. Like in many great movies afterwards. PS. Great movie is this one too! And the whole scene, including Jack. Cheers...
Its wild to me that nobody ever seems to mention steve martin when reflecting on these scenes😢
I'd have a hard time guessing that was him if I did not know it was Jack, wow.
Seymour's like "why does this guy scare me more than my man-eating plant?"
Channeling Peter Lorre to a certain degree. :-)
from the start jack had a destiny to be weird
I guess all of his friends are Masochists?! hahahaha
i flippin love this movie haha
Wow, Jack... Wow.
I wonder whatever happened to this actor "jack" something??? Did he ever make another film? Did he become a big star?? I'm guessing he didn't...
Jack has a small company in Des Moines that runs TV commercials
every afternoon during reruns of Matlock.
He has a small fleet of vans that patrol residential neighborhoods ready to
arrive and clean bird shit out of all your cuckoo clocks at a moments notice.
Yeah, I heard he started dressing up as a clown in the 80s and fought a guy in a bat costume.
He died. Playing with matches.
TheConorsmithusa I’d tell you but you can’t handle the truth....
Apparently he was last seen as a hotel caretaker
23 year old Jack Nicholson
Jack Nicholson before he was cool. He was pretty good, even before popularity!
I saw the hit musical today in la Mirada, Calif.
Damn this is goofy and bizarre even for a sixties horror flick.
i didn't even recognize that was Jack at first, I was so shocked!
Young Jack should have been in a Jerry Lewis film
"I do a lot of undertaking for her relatives." Wtf?
somehow he reminds me here of Jim Carrey and Leonardo Di Caprio at the same time :D
@originalnumber9 how come there is also a coloured version of the movie?
@3eemy same reason why there is a coloured version of the wizard of oz silly
This is the character played by Bill Murray in the musical version.
I must be one of the rare viewers who prefers this version to the Frank Oz one.
What you really need to see is the live one.
the second part of the wizard of oz was originally black in white .. i mean it was released in 1939 .. yes i am aware of how they made the first part symbolic.
@MammuthRepublik yea it kinda does....before all the smoking :/
Man, he reminds me a little of Jim Carrey
MK Ultra Program!!!
he sounds like idubbbz
Heeeerrre's Johnny.
When I got my right wisdom teeth removed, I swore the guy was going to have to stand up on the chair to yoink the bottom one out 😂 And the top one was cracking. It felt like biting into a candy cane.
I got my left ones removed about a decade earlier with no issues, but those right ones were really in there.
Nicholson couldn’t handle the tooth.
You can't handle the tooth!
this is horrible LOL
well my sister and uncle said that when they saw this movie when they were young it was in black in white. Im not saying your wrong im just saying thats what i heard you should give me some proof yo
Nicholson, diabolical since 1960 lol
Who else didn’t know this version existed?
👇
I see a bit of Leo dicaprio in him here
To me this is totally Jim Carrey. Body language, voice, facial expression are very Carrey-like.
You’re both right
Even in this performance he was a better Joker than Joaquin Phoenix and we didn't have to sit through a sermon about bovine rape.
Its old and shitty but at least its not a musical
