Today, getting what you need is as easy as a trip to the store. From food to clothing, energy, medicine, and so much more, Andy George will discover what it takes to make everything from scratch. His mission is to understand the complex processes of manufacturing that is often taken for granted and do it all himself. Each week he’s traveling the world to bypass the modern supply chain in order to harvest raw materials straight from the source. Along the way, he’s answering the questions you never thought to ask.

Wish text books were this cheap
I don't understand how this channel doesn't have more subscribers. This is one of the most interesting channels on UA-cam.
can you guys make a meme from scratch?
meme w
A GIF of me falling into the cranberry bog was on the front page of reddit, does that count?www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/3u7j7u/harvesting_cranberries/
Yes
your channel deserves way more subs
+ByTheTimeYouHaveFinishedReadingMyLongUsernameIHaveTakenYourBagel I read your username while eating a bagel. Also I agree He needs more subs.
Cool, but i stole your donut.
*I
ByTheTimeYouHaveFinishedReadingMyLongUsernameIHaveTakenYourBagel Especially because he's from the best state in the world AKA Minnesota/Minnesnowta!
John Galt your family environment as a child must have been very toxic. Let people enjoy things you hate filled bag of low self esteem.
I'm not exactly understanding some of grief about these videos. Some of the posts on other sites don't understand why we saw different kinds of paper and complained about the quality of the end book.
It's for the sake of knowledge. Humanity has multiple ways to make paper. I don't it was interesting to acknowledge that.
As for the quality of the final product. Is Andy George supposed to be an expert on book making? So we see a novice attempt this. Now you can appreciate the works of experts in the time and skill they put into their craft. You appreciate the benefits of modern tools. Professionals have a whole room(s) dedicated to each process.
As for the deer? Well I hope none of you wear any leather or use certain types of glue. Or use products containing ingredients that came from deceased animals.
Neoblackdragon this is like one of those memes where the sentence doesn’t make any sense no matter how many ways you try to interpret it.
I love how some of your videos end with a mix of incredible success yet hilarious failure. like you just made a book using authentic techniques and hard to find materials, but all you got out of it was a pedestrian sandwich or a 20 page mess of a book.
you just earned a subscriber.
Amazing I don't know how someone can do all of this labor wow and you deserve more views considering your hardwork
I loved your How to Make a Book series; it was presented simply yet I learned so much and was captivated for every video component. The professionals who helped you out--those parts were especially interesting. Thanks for sharing, Andy! I like your down-to-earth style.
I just came across your channel; it's amazing! You really do have everything at hand in Minessota!
he lives in MN? i do too!
I just love watching your vids. I have a fascination in how things are made and how it works. You took it up a notch and decided to do it from scratch, which is awesome!
Thanks for taking the time to educate us on these many topics! Just finished the book series and truly enjoyed the education! Keep up the great work!
Step 8, without it the book would be worth a fraction of the price
seeing all the hours of pure labor put into these things really makes one appreciate the work from these videos
Great video, looking forward to your next project!
I love book making!! I like to just sit back, dissect a sketch pad, turn on some creepy story reading podcasts, and get binding!
Thank you for the project, it was incredible - really helps to feel all those centures of passing culture and how it was done.
awesome, what did you write in the book?
+Arjen Hartink My name, over and over again, because I'm not a narcissist or anything...
+How To Make Everything Hahaha! LOL! I like you, you're funny! :)

wow, this is one of the most amazing channels I ever watched. Seriously, I am going to share this among everyone i know. Keep it up my friend!
+pchenester Thanks!
Love the hours of labor count you added.
You guys deserve so much more subscribers for your effort!
I seriously think that you should contact Netflix and ask if your series can go on there and I honestly think they will welcome the idea if they watch your amazing videos 😀
Step 8 is the most important step, without it you won’t be able to come close to even making a thing slightly resembles a book.
Love the videos, i check in regularly to see any new series you've made :-D
This one became a bit to chaotic for my taste though.
01:27 cat on the right is cute.
I subbed 😃. nice content start to finish and very educational.
Step 8: Glue fingers together
hahahhahahaha
Thing is hours are not equivalent and often times a lot more effort, energy and sweat is overlooked by only counting numbers!
Especially when your team has put so much dedication and outstanding effort creating these series :))
WOOOOOOW! COOL!
Next, how to make a baby please!
jafs65 you're out of luck if no one likes you
Especially with that prof pic
jafs65 WaT 😯
jafs65 that's a question for your parents, not the internet.
jafs65 the mommy has a outlet and the daddy has a plug, when the daddy puts his plug in mommy’s outlet.....
The computer turns on and they order a baby from amazon
1:28 cute fucking cat
lol, how did you notice that.
mase ofspades He saw it.
gurtthedwarf didn’t have to put that “fucking” in the middle of the sentence but ok
I think his channel gained 2k subs over night!
Well, not considering the subscriber count delay.
Haha. Good to know the book has a price on it. I'm considering doing something similar, as a prop - making a fake Necronomicon using traditional bookmaking processes. Only thing I don't think I'll be able to do cost effectively, is gilded lettering on the leather cover. Maybe.
I was hoping it would say "All work and no play makes Andy a dull boy"
a fluffy cat on the right near the wheel 1:28
You guys should do a " HOW TO MAKE A HUMAN " series LOL just kidding. It'd be fun to see a Macaroni and Cheese series or something food related.
extreme diy
looks like an ancient journal
i was doing this before it was cool
cool! how did the ink look after drying?
+Veganophob It actually dried fairly well and looked about the same as when it was wet. Not the most opaque ink, but effective nonetheless.
Step 9: Glue Fingers Together" Ha! No, skip that! :)
Tammy Lewis step 8 actualy
cool
hi, i was wondering, on all of your projects, the price is hella high, what do you put into the cost, obviously the transportation and some materials, but for example what made this a 400 book
+Rok Povse well, i wrote befor watching the video to the end, soo yea but srysly, how ouch do materials cost and so on
+Rok Povse Typically we add up all of the costs to produce everything including travel and labor, however, in this series we reused a lot of materials from our Suit (ua-cam.com/play/PLLXfVEsLI-qTsKAzCF-GzUn9eoivD8eZL.html) so we only counted the labor cost at minimum wage. Had we added up everything it would have actually been closer to $1800 to make this book entirely from scratch!!
thanks
Wow I thought it would be much more than 400 dollars!
Ascendance of a Bookworm
Yes truly! Myne will be proud
"Glue fingers together" lmao
Was any time deducted for tasks you could have done concurrently? Is there a way you could check the difference for doing the tasks concurrently? Because you can bet actual businesses wouldn't pay cumulative time for such tasks.
+steelsmiter Time was only counted when there was direct labor being done. If anything was left to soak or dry, that time wasn't counted. So there really wasn't much that could have been done concurrently.
+How To Make Everything fair enough :D
Captions were wrong, the horse is where the glue came from.
Why couldn't you make this a series so that you could talk through the processes? I would have loved to hear your thoughts about each step & putting it all together. Seems like a missed opportunity...
This just proves how great capitalism is
Industrialization, not capitalism.
Step 8 is the most important step right
Please do one where u make a guitar if you haven't already
Definitely on my short list of future episodes, hopefully next year I can make a full assortment of instruments.
Just buy one
PAPAYRUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS *Bonetrousle intensifies*
Minnesota minimum wage is $9.86 an hour
but if you stuck to only one source of each thing you needed it might have been a lot easier and cheaper
Pobre ciervo
Just curious, what did you do with the meat from the animal? Not here to be PETA but just so you know if you don't eat meat or can't use all of it there are charities like hunters for the hungry who will take the meat, prepare it to be cooked, and give it to low income people who need help with groceries
This is way more difficult than it is in Minecraft.
I make similar books like this for a living, and I sell them for 25 dollars!
have I been too cheap this whole time???
How to HAND make a book entirely from scratch.
50 hours of LABOUR time.
surprised did not add in time for growing trees, horse, sheep, hemp and wait time.
Good efforts, though I personally think that the essence of all those traditionally handmade items is its craftsmanship. Unfortunately I did not seems to find that in your work. Maybe you could try making things more elegantly rather than simply imitating the functionality of such items?
Wow it's almost like it was his first time making a book
I got *stuck* at step 8
-nice joke-
How to sell everything should be another channel
He's grinding on Papyrus
I thought that you this video was going to be a parody of Apple's iBook or something.. Lol
Why not to put the book under a press to make it flat?
Looks like the book of Evil Dead
Lol, step 9, glue fingers together
perspective of life without industrial advancement.
Lol that kind of stuff would cost me tons haha, get hunting licence, borrow those tools and stuff lol and you call it scratch haha
"Pretty good"
Lot of money
No animals were hurt in the making of this series... right?
Did you count the time required to write in that book?
There's a reason books were a luxury item before the invention of the printing press.
Step 14: Publish book
Step 15: *Begin the workers revolution*
Step 16: Successfully overthrow a monarchy
But you didn't make the rest of your tools! :p
Shot that dear dead to make a book video lol wtf...
+SpriJones Deer was actually shot for food by another person in the hunting group I joined in on. I just found additional use for the leftover hide to make both parts of a book and a suit: ua-cam.com/video/iA501o63BUw/v-deo.html
*deer
Who else love deer hunting
So these how complicated writing is before
These videos are love letters to capitalism
not bad not bad not bad but how long that paper in the skin and the brush and the ink going to stay long lasting ever what year.
make IC chips from scratch
DEATH NOTE?
Now you gotta sell it for $1000
You should've made better ink
You couldn't show off the abilities of your quill.
Extremely cool, but it was used using modern tools.
Mato a un pobre animal y tras de eso le dan like
Step 8.... Lol
Hipsters are becoming an epidemic.
Calling people who live the old way or doing things the old way hipsters, is becoming an epidemic.
why tho
Do you think Main-chan watched this?
🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪
You wasted all that weed...
+Yes Im Going To Be That Guy I hope you're joking
+Yes Im Going To Be That Guy It's actually hemp, you can watch the full video where I harvest it to learn the difference: ua-cam.com/video/kjoFN_Gwl78/v-deo.html
In short, you'd have to smoke A LOT of hemp to feel any effects from it.
You use the stalks to make paper, not the buds.
tanker9987 i am well aware, but what do you think he did with the nugs? I think they were wasted
Hemp is a different breed of plant than marijuana. They're both the species Cannabis sativa, just different varieties.Trying to smoke hemp to get high is like using a chihuahua as a hunting dog: it could theoretically work, but be prepared for a lot of inconveniences.
I was hoping for a detailed video, not an overview. But still fun to watch.
unfortunately he didnt show the process like he does nowadays
He didn't make the thread am triggered
its cool that you used multiple materials and all, but that drives up the cost as opposed to maybe just making it with one of each medium. Its a great way to show how to make a book but a horrible lesson in economics.
That book would be a worth of a crappy $5 USD...
all of the time spent on it. handmade. real leather. real paper. travel expenses. that about adds up. i mean when was the last time you got a real leather book REAL 100%.
That book isn't worth $400 until you sell it :)
Is this a tv show some where bc you dont have a lot of subscribers but great video's i dont get it but make shorter video's not part 1,2,3,4...
+xWiredMoDz We started out on local TV in the Twin Cities but for now we are just on UA-cam.
