@@gavinbacholl5278 There's actually some debate in whether in Canon, Veers dies to that. In Legends he doesn't. However the only reference to the event is in the novelization of Empire Strikes Back, as it happened off-screen and only in the book, some fans don't even know that this happened. In an interview with his actor, Julian Glover, stated that he thinks Veers might have survived (though I doubt this has any weight) and that he could well be brought back if Lucasfilm wants.
I'm not going to throw my opinion into this, what I've said here is just the facts, which is:
If you're going off Legends, no he didn't die.
If you're going purely off the movies, who knows that event was never shown, it was cut from the film.
If you're going off the novelization, yeah he most likely died.

@@christopherjackson3455 was unexpected to me as a kid, I didn't realize the emperor and palpatine were the same person until my dad basically help a magazine over the top of palpatines head and blocked his eyes out, that was after 4 viewings of the clone wars after it recently came out on DVD.
Palpatine didn’t need to use the Force to blind them, he just needed to keep them busy.
All they saw when looking at him was an ambitious and corrupt Senator who became the Chancellor who became the Senate from whom they took their marching orders from over the Force.
Well, Anakin almost turns Palpatine in. So it’s not so obvious because he’s also extremely heroic.
Most Jedi without the force are helpless. As Kreia told Atton in KOTOR 2.. ""Take the greatest Jedi Knight, strip away the Force, and what remains? They rely on it, depend on it, more than they know." This is why Luke Skywalker trained the Jedi of the New Republic to develop skill sets outside of the force. To become more complete and capable individuals.
Sidious didn't have to do much blinding....they pretty much already did it themselves.

Does Darth Vader/Anakin deserve everything he has? Most people work for what they have, but it seems like he has had everything given to him. He has even failed the Emperor several times, but still managed to walk away unharmed, while the Imperial Guards had to fight to the death to even get the job, Ahsoka and her being accused (she could have died, "When you are found guilty, I ask the court that the full extent of the law be brought down upon you, including penalty of death!"" - Tarkin), etc. Even Luke seems to work harder.
@@namename9998 I'm a little late but Anikin worked hard for everything he had. He was allowed to train as a Jedi reluctantly by the council and once he did, it took him years to become as skilled as he was. As Vader, people were constantly trying to kill him and while de did have some notable failures, he mostly had success
Radio Raheem, it's never too late. While Anakin did work hard (although some would argue otherwise, such as being responsible for the success when he did some piloting as a child, when he was told to not go anywhere), did Vader. I've only watched the movies, so I don't know how responsible he was for the victories. At best, because of the staff he had, he was victorious, but he himself, was he really responsible for all his successes, or did he just get lucky being the heir to some multi-billionaire/win the midichlorian lottery.

Same reason a lot of people who aren't qualified therapists/councilors fail to help other people with emotional issues... they're simply not capable of it. The Jedi were trained from a very young age to put aside all emotions and attachments, they can't help Anakin because they don't have even the slightest clue what he's going through. Its kind of similar to in KOTOR 2 when Kreia says that even a fool like Atton is "more capable" than a Jedi, a normal human isn't forced into reliance on the force and can use their more natural talents and, in this case, empathy.

Logan smith, THIS! Yes! Oh and perhaps because Jedi are supposed to “bury their emotions” - Obi-Wan’s exact words to Luke. “Bury your emotions deep down” and not learn to deal with them like mature people and learn somewhat how to detect how the Dark Side works so you can defend yourself.
Emotions are portrayed in the prequels especially to make people weak, vulnerable because they have them, whereas emotions should be an opportunity to develop strength, to develop yourself, and learn from those around you - even your enemies. The Jedi in this era are so afraid of their own emotions, their own shadow, their own dark sides, so to speak - they don’t even acknowledge much less process these emotions. No wonder they become so easily seduced by the dark side. Emotional issues not addressed fester under the surface.
I’m not saying the story is bad writing, don’t get me wring - to me SW is a giant cautionary tale to quit stuffing down emotions, and process them as you go along, in order to become stronger.
This development of emotional intelligence could have enabled the Jedi in this era to detect some of Palpy’s lies or fallacy.
Not everything is about being Force-sensitive/powerful. Their failure was their lack of emotional sensitivity on a whole.
The Jedi were so emotionally restrained ad most people would think they were like drones.
There was no way they could help and again what their lack of fully comprehending basic needs for emotions. He was forced to keep everything bottled up. Even his feelings and marriage to Padme who was Kept Secret so that hurt even more.
But the Sith are all about emotions and Palpatine knows more about human emotions and which buttons to push. Although being incapable of actually feeling things like love, he knew still what it was about and how to use it to his advantage. He knew full well what Anakin was going through and how incapable the Jedi were of understanding how to deal with it.
And with other factors playing into Anakin's emotional spiral, Sidious didn't have to do too much other than act like the father-figure Anakin never had. He listened to the boy can understood more about him than Obi-Wan ever did and took advantage of it.
If the Jedi didn't read emotions as something that would be inherently bad for the order then maybe they could have helped Anakin in his time of need of emotional guidance. He wouldn't have fell to The Darkside so gradually.
Even Obi-Wan, despite knowing some of what Anakin was feeling, was still incapable of helping him because the Jedi Code that forced Anakin to go beyond everyone's back.

The Jedi were very arrogant. It's almost as if they didn't want to see the truth in everything that was happening (Palpatine's dark side, etc). It was obvious, but they didn't look right under their noses.

Dooku even straight up told them that the senate was controlled by a sith lord, but they were calling it fake news simply because they were to arrogant to even consider the possibility that they had been blindsided. Just like when they refused to believe Qui Gon when he told them he encountered a sith. The jedi got what they deserved.

They didn't find out that Dooku was Tyrannus until over 2 years into the war. They'd be defenseless if they discontinued the clones. That being said, it's odd they didn't believe Fives quicker given what they knew.

The Jedi had become arrogant and out of tune with the force, so much so that they didn't notice Palpatine was the sith lord operating under their noses until it was too late.
They were operating as order to by said Sith Lord and needed Anakin to point that fact out for them.

Anakin in fact was a kind boy with a living conscience. He had some psycological problems but stuggled against it as he could. If he was helped, the world could avoid the appearence of Darth Vader. The only thing I can't understand why he was left to confront it alone. Yoda feel that his strongest student is one pace away from suicide and... do practically nothing to help him.
there were so many ways the council including obi wan could have prevented anakins fall to the dark side.
1. the council should never had used anakin to spy on palpatine
2. anakin didn't have a family and felt out of place among other jedi, the closest he had to a family was obi wan and asokah tano which were more or less like siblings to him and palpatine being like a friend and mentor to anakin since he was a child. Qui gon jinn would have been like a father and only one capable to help him. hence duel of the fates meaning the fate of the chosen one the boy. where he died and lost. so anakins fate was lost.
3. Obi wan didn't side with anakin during the council and was also flawed, he didn't consider anakins feels when it came to the will of the council, to which in their own arrogans and distrust of anakin was also their own making in a way.
4. when anakin is revealed that palpatine is a sith lord he decides to tell mace windu and to see what palpatine said they would do about him is true. He tells Mace wind about palpatine being the sith, and asks to be with in the arrest. now he told anakin to stay and that he didn't trust him, which left anakin ponder for some time in confusion, despair to lose the only family he had a chance to get since before he has been long busy fighting endless of wars in the clone wars. Again if mace had anakin with him to bring down palpatine anakin would have remained on the light side.
5. the jedi were busy playing politics rather than being caring of the people they were completely detached of emotions as the feared it would lead to the dark side, if it had been different anakin would have remained on their side.
6. anakin was alienated for a long time in the jedi not only in the council, being denied rank of master while still be in the council and since he was the chosen one he was treated differently.
7. the jedi didn't allow to love which also surpressed a lot of emotions in anakin, told him to move on let go rather than being there for him and assisting and showing him how to work through emotions properly.
Yeah. And Mace should never have told Anakin, "If you're correct, you WILL have my trust."
Aka, "I dont trust you despite everything you've done for the Jedi and the Republic over the past 3 years. But if you're telling me the truth, bc I think you're a liar, I will put those feelings aside. We good though right?"

Er, no, it's the opposite. The Jedi Council didn't trust Anakin enough, which is what led to their downfall. They didn't trust him fully, they were only forced to train him as a promise to a dead comrade, so they held him back in terms of training (a Jedi Master named Jorus C'baoth wanted to teach Anakin Force Meld, and Kenobi shot that idea down) and they didn't even let him become a Jedi Master. That created resentment in Anakin, which led him to seek someone else to trust-someone like the Chancellor. That in turn made it easy for Sidious to turn him, since Anakin saw how the Jedi Council treated him like shit, so he naturally became a supporter of the Chancellor. If they trusted Anakin more, if they didn't hold back in training him, and if they gave him the rank of Master after he defeated Count Dooku (which, let's be real, he deserved it for defeating an enemy that even the mighty Yoda can't beat) Anakin would have been loyal to the Council and would have chosen them over Palpatine any day. Also, Anakin having a child would be a boon to the Council, especially since you can then get a Jedi that has all of Anakin's power and none of his emotional baggage. If I were Yoda, I'd allow it, on the condition that he hands over his child for Jedi training.
I completely agree. A lack of trust towards someone would build up an emotional block towards the jedi council thus far not allowing them to read anakins true emotions. Not even Obi-Wan trusted him otherwise he would have given his full support to his padawns gifted skills
Having Ahsoka be given the a-hole treatment by the council when she was framed for muster thus making her leave order also didn't help Anakin's have a better opnion of the order too.
Don't forget Anakin didn't trust them either so don't go on the side of a trader

HolyknightVader999, true. They made exceptions for other Jedi having families too. The Jedi Council did trust Ani in a sense though; they trusted him enough to be a double agent - to spy on Palpy for them. But Palpy ended up stealing him from them.

I'd always suspected it was because of the war. Not only is he the assumed Chosen One, the Jedi are also mired in a grueling, deadly war where creature comforts can be afforded during such trying times. There were more important things for the Jedi Council to worry about than monitoring one of their top Jedi to make sure he wasn't partaking in a scandalous love affair.
Also, Anakin was the Jedi's star QB. Believe it or not, he'd also been living up to his potential and actually winning you Super Bowls every year the way he promised. Guys like him are hard to come by. If all it takes for him to remain motivated and loyal to the Republic is a loving relationship/marriage in a time when so much is at stake, and countless Jedi are being lost daily in a vicious war, then by all means... let him have his marriage. He's certainly done enough to merit such a pleasure in an otherwise trying time.
Rules need to apply to everyone evenly, because everyone believes that they should be an exception.
Excluding Obi-Wan, the few on the Council that knew enough about the relationship (like Mace) reasoned it aside since “If he is the Chosen One, then he will choose the right path” rather than Anakin allowing himself get too caught up in the relationship.

its kind of hard to help someone with their emotional issues when you've been taught your whole life to not have them and get punished for having any. my guess is they didn't understand what he was going through, only that he shouldn't be going through it since he's a jedi. usually any guidance they did offer anakin was very fundamental but nothing that could be applicable at least not to someone who has emotional ties to begin with. making him repress them instead and leadng to him acting out and being unable to deal with anything emotionally related in a rational way.
Another way they could’ve addressed this with Anakin could’ve just listen to his concerns. Doing something for the parents wellbeing for the prospected Jedi could’ve helped too.
I mean he was concerned for his mother, who was a slave on an inhospitable planet in the Outer Rim and alone thanks to the Jedi.

During TCW, when Ahsoka foresaw Padme's death, Yoda encouraged her to explore them further.
When Anakin had them, he was given a dismissive and almost condescending comment about dreams and then an, admittedly, well meaning lecture about death.
In the first case, disaster could have been avoided had someone done a welfare check, but of course, some nobody from Tattoine wasn't worth the fuel.
In the second, I think Yoda could have chosen his words more carefully. With Anakins mental state and his past experience, it almost sounds dismissive.

Aaaand that is exactly what fucked them over. Acting like assholes instead of teaching him, basically forcing an emotionally repressed manchild (remember jedi are trained from a young age to avoid emotion and anakin was “too old” to train) if they just let anakin be a master after killing Dooku, a villain that even yoda couldn’t defeat 1v1 aaaaaand fucking up Asokas trial so badly she quit when she was basically the only good thing anakin had in the order besides Obi-wan
It’s a well known fact that Obi wan and Anakin had a very strong bond and were like brothers and obi wan like Anakin formed attachments to people such as Qui gon, Siri,Satine, Anakin and Padme . So Obi wan hid his knowledge of Anakins attachment to Padme. As for Yoda he ignored what was going on because he knew that if Anakin was kicked out of the order Obi wan would choose Anakin over the order because Anakin was the only person Obi wan truely cared about after Qui gon and Satine died.

All the jedi council cared about was him fulfilling the prophecy & destroy the sith.
In many ways ashoka helped balance him or at least helped appreciate the training he has had for Obi-wan. But when she left the order because the council refused to even bother investigating whether she was guilty or not and just simply gave her a mock trial & Exiled so that she could be put on trial by the Senate to appease them that was one of the final nails hammered in. It showed just how far the jedi had fallen & were shadows of their formor selves
In the ROTS novel, when Obi-Wan asks Padme were Anakin is. He told me that he knows about the relationship, and that both of them are terrible at hiding there feelings. Obi-wan acts like he didn't know anything about it because she made Anakin happy.

Ok listen it is important to control NEGATIVE emotions but for me thats as far as it goes. Yes without attachments youre more focused and less worried but the human nature is to attach no matter how introverted you are.
I'm sure they knew it wouldn't be right to jump to conclusions and therefore cast him out just because of his mistakes, he was very dedicated to the light side. To the point where he wanted to rank a master. He was so ready to help and contribute his input. He was even angry when he found out Palpatine was the Sith Lord and attempted to destroy him. But then did the right thing and only turned him in. This is just my viewpoint.

Obi Wan knew. All of them hung close enough to the point where it was an open secret. Yoda and Mace even knew, but they probably weren’t concerned with it to the point to address it at the time.

They DIDNT trust him. Leading to a self fulfilling proficy, they treated him like crap. Used him when it was beneficial to them and then wouldn't listen to him when it wasn't.
They know Anikan acted reckless, disobeyed orders, and aggressive at times.
The reason Anakin fell to the dark side is because the Jedi order basically told him stfu and just get over his problems rather then actually help him and guide him. I know people say that Anakin is too whiny and he just too privilege but that is just dumb. Just like in real life, ignoring a problem doesn't just make it magically go away. The order had just become too complacent and arrogant and just didn't care to do anything until it became too late. Even Yoda and Obi-Wan(later in his life) understood it.
P.S. Also, to the people saying that Anankin needed to earn the Jedi trust rather then be expected to be given it, I would like to point out that it goes both way. Thinking that only one side needs to earn trust while the other side is owed trust is how blind believe is born. The order never earned Anakin's trust so they can't complain when he doesn't bother to trust them and instead fell in with Palpatine.
I thought about this earlier in the week:
Anakin was too old for their normal training. The other kids his age had grown up together and trained together. They had all bought into the no attachments thing.
This wasn't going to work for Anakin.
So the jedi were left with 3 options:
1) Tell Obi Wan that training Anakin at the order wasn't feasible. That while he could learn ABOUT the force, training him to be a jedi was too dangerous with their current teachings.
2) Train Anakin, but make an adjusted curriculum for him until he settles in. Have regular counseling sessions with him and make sure he understands the difference between suppressing his emotions and actually controlling them. Focus on emotional healing before beginning force and lightsaber training. Then, let him progress at his own pace. If you feel he's going too quickly, EXPLAIN why you think he's going too quickly and then help him move on. Etc.
3) Take an emotionally traumatized child and force him to fall in line with the teachings of the Jedi Order. Unclear if they ever offered him counseling on his many issues. In the novel, he does know. However he pretends he doesn't since it makes Anakin happy, to safeguard him from the rest of the Council and he cares for him like a brother. Perhaps in canon, this is carried over? That's how I'd like to think of it as in my opinion.
In AotC, it was made clear that Obi-Wan was concerned about the decision to assign Anakin with Padma because of their feelings for each other in a scene that I was surprised to find out got deleted because I swear that I saw it in the theatrical release.

Qui Gon was a listener, a nurturer, when he was gone, Ani lost a great chance to be moulder by him. Shaak Ti had those traits too, but she was not close to Ani. The others barely had a lick of such qualities in them. Plo Koon perhaps. Obi Wan tried his best as a big brother, but I think he was too dogmatic and insecure about being Ani’s Master - a great burden he sacrificed everything for, even being with his beloved Satine.
Those scenes in TCW broke me. Because if Ani felt comfortable with Obi-Wan and Yoda to tell them and they were open enough to listen and be gentle - we probs would never have got Darth Vader. And Ani would raise Luke and Leia with Padme.
I kept hoping in these scenes they’d talk and connect - but I know what happens next so I know they failed him here. The same Yoda and Obi-Wan also in a similar way failed Luke - lecturing him instead of telling him the truth and counselling him. He could have died trying to rescue Leia and Han.

The other possibility is that he is mad at the Jedi for kicking him out so he tells Palpatine so he is able to turn him to the dark side sooner

What are you blabbering about? They did NOT trust him, that's why Anakin went to the dark side! Mace Windu always distrusted him, that's why he never got the rank of master despite a) having trained a student (remember they offered to make Ahsoka a Jedi-Knight after her ordeal with being framed for bombing the temple, so in a way Anakin finished her training!) and b) having been put on the council! Frankly the Jedi with their baby-stealing-ways are disgusting. I can't condone the killing of younglings, but destroying the order wasn't per say wrong! IMHO the Republic (sadly they were too corrupt and loved to have their jedi-attack-dogs! Remember they used them to destroy Jango Fett's True Mandalorians based on a lie!) should have stopped them from taking children to indoctrinate in their (dumb!) ways! Children haven't learned to deal with their emotions and neither do Jedi! They try to suppress them instead of you know, learning how to channel them effectively and not losing control!
I don’t think he’s justified in murdering the entire order for Palpatine, especially not the kids, regardless of the 14 years of grooming by Palpatine, the Council’s emotional abuse, emotional neglect, Anakin’s limited options for good support, and his limited options for escape. If this were real life, Anakin would probably be diagnosed with C-PTSD/BPD, and it likely would never end with him becoming a mass murderer because he could get that healthy emotional support, mood stabilizers, and DBT therapy that he never could have in Star Wars because the plot required for his sanity to be broken to push him over the edge to become Darth Vader.
Still, while his anxiety and desperation was understandable in that moment, he knew Palpatine was a Sith Lord at that point when he had the choice between him and Mace. He chose Sidious over Mace because he was desperate to avoid potential abandonment of Padme, and even if he had a lot of practice rationalizing the crimes he committed for Sidious as “necessary evil” “for the greater good,” he still felt guilty over it afterwards. On Mustafar with Padme and Obi Wan, he’s still culpable, but the force choke would be considered involuntary manslaughter in real life, not conscious murder like some fans believe. His perception of reality, his better judgment, and over-confidence in this control over this new power was completely clouded by this psychotic high this new drug gave him. He impulsively force-choked Padme in a blind rage because he thought she had brought Obi Wan to kill him, so they could hook up behind his back, which was awful. However, he didn’t seem to realize that force choking her was killing her in that moment when he wanted her to feel a fraction of his pain because after Obi Wan told him to let her go twice, Anakin had this brief look of confusion on his face before saying “I won’t let you take her from me,” and then after he gets put in that suit and the high of the dark side wears off, he is genuinely shocked by the revelation he supposedly killed Padme when he said “She was alive! I felt it!”
But he still would probably be considered complicit in the mass murder of the Jedi Order. Palpatine would be the main perpetrator, though.
That being said, while no one deserved to be murdered, I entirely agree that Obi Wan was a shitty guardian/mentor and that both he and the Jedi Council are complicit in Anakin’s fall to the dark side. Yeah, it was a cult grooming children for warfare, so all of these kids were abused, endangered, and neglected, but Anakin definitely was their black sheep who they “othered” and mistreated in particular because he couldn’t just automatically be fit into their cookie cutter “perfect Jedi” slot since he had memories of what real life was like outside of their cult. Also, just why would they ever let a child under their care talk alone to a Chancellor who had this weird hyperfixation on him “for the greater good?” That is child exploitation and neglect.
I also never understood why the Republic government couldn’t just free Anakin’s people from slavery on Tattooine, particularly his mom.
Why were children getting conscripted into war? That is fucked up.
Why couldn’t these Jedi be individuals or have their own personal lives? That’s fucked up. Yeah, Yoda had a valid point about anger, fear, and possessiveness being dangerous when handling a lethal weapon like the force on the battlefield, but you can’t just deny human individuality, personal lives, negative emotional expressions and feelings, and close connections altogether, especially not to a kid who came from literal slavery and trauma for the first 9 years of his life.
So I don’t think Anakin’s entirely innocent, regardless of the circumstances against him, but I definitely think it’s ridiculous to blame his fall to the dark side ALL on him when he came from poverty, his support system was limited, the Jedi Council sucked at their jobs as peacekeepers of the galaxy, the Republic condoned slavery on the outer rims, and pretty much every parental/authority figure in Anakin Skywalker’s life were abusing, emotionally neglecting, and grooming him his whole life to be a tool or weapon for their own purposes, aside from his mother.
