Yesterday I spent 4h on Google fonts alone! Exploring, digging, browsing, experimenting. Found some really fun and interesting fonts. Typography is certainly growing on me, and started exploring typography-led web design. Some of these examples really help solidify my interest and fresh approach. Great content as always. 🤘🏻
I'm a noob when it comes to fonts but vids like these with examples and explanation really help. Good stuff. I have a feeling I'll be exploring all these free fonts for quite a while
I'm so glad to have found this video! I'm a new web developer (long-time designer) and I actually detest searching for the right font. There are just too many and I never know which is the right one. These are certainly great starting points!
Thanks Matt! I've used Outfit for my business website so I'm glad you think that's a good choice :-) I will add the other recommended fonts to my toolbox too!
I love the Cooper Hewitt one but when i download the OTF files, and when i open illustrator, some of the "font weight" are not working... Do you know why ? :/ PS : I'm working on windows
I respectfully disagree with the premise of this video. Yes, you may be able to get away with 6 fonts or so, but that's a bare minimum. Educating yourself in the field of typography and gain a knowledge of what's possible with type and your design opportunities will grow and your portfolio strength will improve.
Thanks for being respectful in your comment! The video's premise is a fun play on Vignelli's controversial declaration that all he needed was a few basic typefaces. Did you watch the video? "Educating yourself in the field of typography" is what Matt advocates, not only here but in most of his videos! So I'm not sure there is a disagreement. Endlessly trying new fonts rather than learning to work with some solid ones can work against this. Education and lifelong learning are what we're all about! ✌️

I had forgotten how good Flux was. Excellent advice delivered in a Mancunian accent. Love it!
Thank you Ashley!
Nice font choices. I like the subtle differences in some of these compared to more 'traditional' serif or sans fonts. Thanks for a great video!
Thank you so much for this video. Super helpful and well-presented. Your time and effort is most appreciated!

Is Hedvig for headings only? Cus it seems to have no weights to work with, nor italics. That feels like it would halt you a lot
