    Someone should remind DK that without assassin, every game devolved into people claiming roles and the imposters were fucked.

    • @Fireball006
      @Fireball006 6 місяців тому +30

      The other way to fix that would be to make it so multiple people can get the same role and that roles are less confirmable, like medic not showing the person they are shielded for example
      Basically just make it more like town of salem which is where a lot of the original role ideas came from

      @@Fireball006assassin kinda seems like a necessity because sometimes clear and obvious who the killers are like half way through the game and are already going to vote them at least guessing roles still give the imposters a chance to win at that point, that’s why I think guessing roles should get more than 1 guess

      @@Fireball006 ToS has the Ritualist and Doomsayer which do exactly what the assassin does. And the difference there is you NEED the roles because you don't have crewmates running around gathering info. The roles are the only way to find the killers. In Among us the roles are an added feature and tend to be too op without counter balance. Meanwhile imposter roles tend to be crap. Like morphling is pretty much useless since the person you morph into always gets cleared. I don't think I've seen it work once as intended where it successfully frames the person. All it does is tell everybody the exact timing and makes it easy for crew to clear the entire lobby except you.

    4:44 I disagree with dk here. Killers guessing roles is a way to balance out the fact that crewmates can just reveal their roles and see who the odd ones out are. In fact, the fact that killers can only guess one role per round is already a nerf to the imposters since in theory all the crewmates can reveal their roles and sacrifice 1 crew to get the info of who the imposters probably are

    • @AmongUsAcademy
      @AmongUsAcademy  6 місяців тому +5

      What about Hafu’s take that more than 1 guess per meeting is unfair and unbalanced?

    • @DeathByDegrees8
      @DeathByDegrees8 6 місяців тому +1

      @@AmongUsAcademy In my games we let the guessers take as many shots per meeting as they want. Don't reveal your role unless it's worth it. You can also mind game it and fake role claim so it's not like there isn't outplay potential for crewmates to bait bad guesses.

    • @TheDailyEgg
      @TheDailyEgg 6 місяців тому +4

      @@AmongUsAcademy hafu does have a point, because it usually isn't people just blatantly saying their roles in meetings. Most of the time it's how they act within the rounds themselves that reveals their roles, so it would give imposters an advantage for sure there. But I feel like imposters need all the help they can get, since most of the time they can't use their special roles since it would give the crewmates more clues. So idk, maybe infinite guesses per meeting is too much, so maybe 1 per meeting is fine for now.

  • @TheModernPost
    @TheModernPost 6 місяців тому +35

    Imposters would almost never win if they couldn't assassinate crew for claiming their roles. It becomes just a game of interrogating everyone over their roles and finding the 2 or 3 liars. I do think DK makes a good point, but there needs to be some incentive for crew to keep their roles secret. I think it even adds fun moments where crew have to hide information from each other and reveal it in ways that don't also reveal their roles. I've seen some really fun and creative strategies on that front.

    I actually find assassin probably the most fun aspect of the game to watch. I think it's very entertaining to think about how players behave in relation to the roles they could possibly be, and the tension between providing special info and risking your own skin. It's even more risky for imposters to take the shot, so I don't think it happens too much, and the payoff always feels earned. I don't know what DK means when he says the game previously felt more "psychological", but I find thinking about what everyone's roles could be based only on as much information as they can safely provide a greatly appreciated extra layer of intellectual stimulation. Perhaps he means that before the added roles, strategy had less to do with memorizing those roles interactions, which left more space for simply intuiting whether your friend was lying or not, but having assassin on is a countermeasure to roles being openly discussed (and also at a high level, I think Vanilla boiled down to a focus on map awareness and positioning, which I think is harder to follow than the roles, while the roles actually impact the ways in which your friends lie, which I find extra interesting). I think the most awkward thing about the game now is how tasks are this sort of design vestige that people need to do for the game to function, but also no one actually wants to do them all, because it's so much less interesting than the social deduction.

    The only way Assasin roles can become unnecessary again is by everyone very strictly abiding by the no role claiming rules. Otherwise it's literally process of elimination with no actual gameplay

      And there's absolutely no way they can follow that rule. Even with the guessing, the people in the lobby often accidently reveal their roles (and then get punished for it). If you remove the punishment, they will just continue "accidently" revealing their roles except they'll be encouraged to do so so will start doing it more and more.

  • @itmightbevid

    5:11 I think Assassin is really cool because when it didnt exist there was basically a house rule to have people not claim roles but with Assassin it allows people to claim roles but it also means that they'll be punished for that.
    The example in my mind is a Detective detects someone and it flashes red, but if you aren't allowed to claim roles you just have to say "i know its this person, trust me." With assassin, someone can claim detective and say that, but then the killer has to decide if they want to play it as "they're the executioner trying to get me out" or if they just want to guess the detective and trade.

      If there are no impostors left, the ignite button will have a seperate cooldown from the douse button.
      The two's cooldown are usually connected.
      He's quick witted so he would've realised it if he survived the meeting.
      It would've been a good reaction because there are still too many players alive and other players wouldn't have noticed that the impostors are dead very early in the game.
