Ive just come from my shed , been painting up the crew for the model S100. I will be posting a vid some time next week (if time allows) of the finished boat, Still need to take her out for the maiden voyage. It will be deep 6 or pond rocket :) Yep, the S100 class looked every part the mean machine and wouldnt look out of place in a modern navy.
Well... it was completly legal under the Versalles treaty... Being a wood ship there was no restriction upon it. You know, what damage could do a wooden ship to a modern war ship?
With modern warships having modern detection equipment, I highly doubt an S100 could get close enough to launch a torpedo. With it's speed however there is still a chance! :) The Nazi regime were very sneaky how they manoeuvred around the limitations of the Treaty of Versailles!
I’ve had one of these under the bench for a few years now. It’s all motorised including working Lursson-effect rudders but it’ll wait a few more years yet.
Came to this video having just found out during family research my Great Grandfathers boat SS Emerald was sunk in 1944 by a German E-Boat. Unfortunately he and 14 other men lost their lives. Finding out the capabilities of these boats and top speed really showed how the SS Emerald steam powered vessel with a top speed of 10kts had little chance. I can only imagine what it must have been like to see one of these E-boats heading towards you and presumably close enough to see the torpedo tubes opening. Terrifying.
The S100 were beautiful yet lethal boats. After the 9.S-Bootflotille success at Lime Bay in April, they made another major hit against the allies on the night of June 8/9th. Somewhere in the English Channel between the port at Weymouth and the French Coast, they encountered a column of five US Navy LST's on their way to Omaha Beach. The LST's were being circled by their escort, the British battleship HMS Beagle, but that did not deter S-130 and the other six S-100 boats of the flotilla from attacking. Two of the LST's, #314 and #376 made up the rear of the column that was being led by the flagship LST #316. The 314 and 376 were both hit by torpedoes and completely sunk, thus ending the lives of many men, and sending the resupply of tanks, ammunition, gasoline, and other supplies to the bottom of the channel. My uncle and his unit, the US Army 3422nd Ordnance Medium Maintenance Company had been split up between those two LST's. There were a couple survivors of the attack, but only a few US Navy personnel, my uncle and his entire company were all killed. It wasn’t until 15 days later, on the 24th of June that his body was discovered floating off the Northern coast of France by the U.S.S. Harding. The British would wreak havoc on multiple Schnellbootfoltille six nights later on June 14th in Le Havre, but the 9.S-Bootflotille was not one of them.
excellent video and commentary ,i thought you were joking about the hot air gun lol lol, a trip to amazon ,got some decent heaters on there at a reasonable price.all the best bud, hope the channel grows n grows.......stay safe............dougie ..ps you have peaked my interest in these models now.might just give it a go................dougie
It does not have 3 rudders. The outer 2 are for the so called Lürssen-Effekt. They need to be set outwards to create the effect, so the left one needs to steer to the left, the right one to the right. After a few moments when the stern moves up and the nose down, the rudders are to be placed straight again and left like this all the time, they are not used for steering.
@@Kessl1492 this is something I will be revisiting this year. I intend to rip out the homemade propshafts, motor and steering mechanism with high speed brushless motors and add another servo to get the lurrsen effect. Hopefully starting work July.
Had a whole section on the British retro fitted secret service boats, had to leave it out together with a lot of other information ....the amount of info on the S100's and their war record, i could have done a series :)
You may want to do a little more research on the boat. Specifically it only have one runner.. The outer 2 or trim adjustments for Speed. I as well Working on a 72nd scale rc S boat
I never heard of this particular boat till now. Think one of these 2,000 HP Mercedes engines will fit in my V-Dub Beetle? lol 😉 Sub'd BTW. Come check ME out. I mainly do 1/64 scale things 👍
my brain couldnt handle the size of those motors! Theres bits of one of the motors lying on a beach in Cornwall...Go nab em for your beetle :) thanks for the sub mate :)
i know so much that the weatcroft thieves went to Denmark and robbed parts inclusive one armored top from sunk boats , i dont like that mafia metods :-(
The salvaged parts were frome S100's that were scuttled after the war. I would hope that permission was sought from Danish authorities before the salvage operation.

That S-boat's a real beauty! Great workmanship too.
Thank you so much :) Check out the rest of the build on my channel. Sh's finished now and ready for her maiden voyage...if i ever get round to it :)
I love your model… Surprised me the best part of the video to. Good job. Thanks for showing us
Interesting build and history. Thx.!!
I've always been fascinated by the US PT boats I didn't know about this this craft. Great video

Our US PT boats would have been like little brothers next to the huge S-100's, but they still did one hell of a job in the Pacific.

Fine documentary. I had no knowledge of the S100. Thanks. Good on ya mate.
Glad you enjoyed it :)

S boats my favorite design.
Apart from the King Tiger and Panther, mine too👍
The British did an experiment fitting Napier Deltic instead the Mercedes. Very successful more powerful and lighter.

Yeah a new Xmas release just came about aswell I've just picked it up for £95
When i did mine 13 years ago, believe it or not, the kit rudders are crap when sailing her, i enlarged mine about 30% bigger,
I like the build and history of the build. The only downfall I have is the camera scene angle bothered me. Good work
The last I heard about S-130 was the hull was twisted. So that might be the end of that.
Sad news for the last of its kind, if true.
German design and engineering is optimal.
What happened to your new vid bud,i watched went to comment and it was gone ?
