And Kojima said "what if Higgs lived, but also had an electric guitar? Wait, electric guitar - electrocity? what if guitar shoot electricity, electrical electric guitar gun-axe. Yeah" and I love it

In the xbox game 'Sacred' there is a guitar with similar powers and in Warhammer 40k you have the Noise marines that wield a guitar as weapon. Kojima's work is unconventional, but he derives it from a combination of his strong imagination and existing things. People are just too ignorant and get too easily flabbergasted by his work. Perhaps also because they lack imagination and/or subscribe to the usual and easy-to-digest tropes they know and understand.

@@bemindful924 it's not amazing cause it's creative, it's amazing because it's like an odd mosh pit of childish sounding ideas that work cause we are amazed, look at snake, he is the embodiment of a cliche but everyone plays it straight and it works..... Bringing up an Xbox game most people didn't play and a tabletop game that most gamers don't have the money or patience for just takes away from how cool that scene is just out of left field.

@@bemindful924- Bro plz just hush 🙄 It's not any of our faults that you chose the wrong console to play on, or that you don't get to play any Game of the Year titles on the regular like we do. Sorry, not sorry. Ya'll made your choice... so go enjoy XBox sh*t. I promise you we don't care. lol But don't come over here w/this pompous attitude, dismissing the sh*t that we love & are excited about, when no one asked you anyway. Nobody is falling over themselves with "wonder" on how Kojima came up w/the character model for Higgs in the sequel game... cuz it HAS been done before, in a little movie called "The Crow". We KNOW that Kojima gets inspiration from all his favorite movies, and that he's a big nerd who loves Sci fi & that he applies a lot of his own personal philosophies into his games. We know. And we don't care. In fact, we love it. Thank you & goodnight.

@@KabbalahSherry First of all, I ain't your 'bro'. Second, you misread my entire post. You're preaching to the choir here since I'm saying that kojima merely took inspiration from existing things and should not be regarded as something crazy in a bad way. Third, I don't even own an xbox. And lastly, I have 6 playthroughs that include THREE 540 LoLoL's and a worldrecord attempt, so you hush.

I have mad respect for Kojima, because he's always doing stuff outside the box. He's similar to Yoko Taro, but gets insanely huge AAA budgets to do his games with because of the gravitas his name has in the videogame world. What other director/studio does completely whacky stuff like Death Stranding, with main gameplay being just walking around delivering packages (and it ends up being extremely fun) and story being insane cooked stuff? Can't think of another person in the videogame industry (especially AAA) who does stuff like he does.
Death Stranding was my personal GOTY for the year it released in, and I can't wait to delve back into Kojima's crazy world with the sequel.

12:30 - that was crazy ana amazing in the same time.
I'm new when it comes to Kojima's productions but I've played a few of his games and already appreciate his craziness and eccentricity.
PS: I admire your general knowledge.

It's not just a game anymore. It's an other world, with its own rules, mythology, its own past and future. You feel its existence and its complexity. That's what I respect Kojima's worlds for. His worlds truly live. You can love em, you can hate em, but you can't completely ignore their existence.

I'm looking forwards to Death Stranding 2. I enjoyed the original game to the point that I completed two full playthroughs. Not something I commonly do.
Actually it's probably my favorite Kojima game. I've never really been into the Metal Gear or Silent Hill series.

I think People give Kojima way too much shit. The fact that he networks with people and gets his time in the spotlight that way, despite being a movie nerd with no movie work, isn't inherently bad, people just associate that behavior with suckups and brown-nosers. But Kojima has always stuck to his guns as a Director, and something like that should be respected. He's eccentric as fuck and his stint at the game awards was completely overproportioned, but he's not just some two-faced hack who "sucks up to hollywood".
In other words, he isn't David Cage- he understands that "Cinematic gameplay" can mean different things besides "interactive movie". He was an early adopter of many staples of good interactive storytelling, like multiple endings, gameplay-based story progression and led his team to essentially produce banger after banger for Konami. And come on; people like Todd Howard have used their fame and success to build a soulless, hire-and-fire sweatshop corporation, whereas KojiPro still employs many of the people that worked on titles as early as MGS1.
And lastly, way too often i find people who decry him as some wannabe philosopher, that, when pressed, reveal that they've seen more Metal Gear meme compilations than gameplay. People that have no idea about or no interest in theming, or people who are simply uncomfortable with the story (be it through lack of patience or lack of knowledge). And, what do they do? Rather than let sleeping dogs lie, they get defensive whenever the dude is brough up, attacking his character rather than saying things like, "oh, i hate the constant tonal whiplash" or "i can't follow the story when i concentrate on gameplay", which are completely valid problems to have! But nooooooooo, this is the internet, and not being an edgy little sh*t is an express train to irrelevancy.

I agree. The guy is eccentric as hell but no matter how cutscene heavy his games are he never forgets they are games and doesn't skimp on gameplay mechanics.
Plus, given the boring formula triple A publishers often put out these days, I appreciate him making these big budget, high graphic off the wall games like Death Stranding. Making something a bit crazy cause he wants to. Reminds me of the older spirit of video games the upper echelons of the industry have forgotten.

@@Valzahd- Yeah I say bring on the weirdness & beauty! 👊🏽😏 I am NEVER bored playing DS!
I've played the game 5 times since launch, and every single time I play, I find out something new, that I never knew before, whether it be from discoving it personally in-game, or, learning new things from the DS community.
The game is absolutely BONKERS. lol
Just wildly ambitious, and I salute the man for really swinging for the fences w/this project. He was betting everything - his fledgling production company he was starting & his reputation as a game developer, ALL of it - on this 1st independent title of his... and it couldn't have turned out better for him!
It's a brilliant experience, that I have yet to find playing ANY other video game. And I know I'm not alone, because since launch, over 16 MILLION players have logged on to this game in one format or another (console, PC, etc), and the majority of them all walked away satisfied that they were given a complete, polished, and intriguing experience, that they will never forget.
I can't tell you how many people I've seen online say as soon as they finished up the story... they immediately turned around & started a 2nd playthrough, just so that they could take this journey with "Sam" again, and this time, do it while knowing what is coming up ahead.
Do it while being more prepared, more confident, and with feeling less pressure, to hurry & rush through it to find out what happens next. They just couldn't wait to take their time, and to dive back in to try new things that they didn't do in their 1st run.
What kind of games make people feel like THAT these days?! Where they're SO good, that people just want to play it over & over again? I've met people online who have played this game TWICE as much as me. That's crazy!
So now I just laugh when people call the DS franchise a "failure" ... cuz I know there's probably a LOT of AAA studios wishing they could produce "failures" this beloved. This sequel game is about to go NUTS ya'll. The playerbase has grown significantly since the 1st game launched. I honestly think DS2 will easily reach Elden Ring sales levels, if not more. Sh*t the 1st game almost has!
And nothing has produced more sweeter revenge on all of DS's haters, than them having to watch everybody else fall in love with this game, and for it to become THIS incredibly successful. Haha 😝 Just cope & seethe, losers. For the rest of us? We'll Keep On, Keeping On.
