To answer why they are doing this spring tournament. There are 2 main tournaments all year. It's the same type of tournament, just played 2 times in a year. Karassuno finished the tournament losing to aoba johsai. Shiratorizawa won and since the region they are living is kinda small, only the winner goes ahead to the nationals. That means that right now shiratorizawa will play the nationals. Then the spring tournaments begins (after this nationals are ending). Everything starts from the bottom. You have to qualify, win every match in order to go to nationals. It's just that every year there are different regions that are hosting the tournament. The last time karassuno went to the nationals was when tokyo was hosting the spring tournament, just like this year.

For bigger places like Tokyo (which has a population ~7x the size of Miyagi prefecture, where Karasuno is) 3 teams can qualify for Nationals. To qualify for the _second_ Nationals, you have to win your prefecture’s Spring Tournament in the spring season. Karasuno has been to Nationals one single time, 5 years prior to the start of the show. It was the year that Hinata saw the Little Giant on TV, which inspired him to play volleyball. The reason that the Little Giant was on TV was because Karasuno’s Nationals match was being televised.

And for the 3rd year students, it will be their last tournament (game) in high school. Karasuno has participated in Spring High School only once in the past. At that time, Daichi was still in junior high school and watched on TV as Karasuno's seniors stood on the court at Spring High and admired them. Although he did not represent the prefecture at the Inter-High School, he still had a chance to represent the prefecture at the Spring High School. With this current group of players, we are aiming to qualify for Spring High! I declared in front of everyone.

The reason you don't understand what is going on is because Japan has WAY more schools per prefecture then most countries AND they also take schooling and education VERY serious so thats why Takeda had to talk with all the third years and tell them that they shouldnt make any decisions that they might regret (in this case it would be playing sports over focusing on their studies) and the stage Daichi is referring to they have only been to once is nationals not the spring tourney.
The game they played on PSP is Monster Hunter (Obviously it looks like a knock off because of copy rights, in the Manga they call it MonHun). It most likely immitates Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.
they don't really need to be "invited" to the spring tournament, the spring tournament is an entirely separate tournament that takes place in the spring and starts from the ground up same as the interhigh tournament in the summer. Teams in each prefecture (think like a state in the US) compete with each other at the beginning of each tournament. Some prefectures can send more than one team to nationals but Miyagi prefecture where Haikyuu mostly takes place only gets to send one. The tournament we've been following is the preliminary rounds to determine which team in Miyagi prefecture gets to go to the national level for this interhigh tournament. Then there's the spring tournament which is separate and starts over at regional preliminary rounds again for who goes to nationals of that tournament. All that's happening is there's two national tournaments each year, they lost at the preliminary stage and couldn't make it to nationals for the first tournament but they're determined to win the preliminary round of the next tournament and be the team miyagi prefecture sends to nationals which means defeating teams like Date Tech, Aoba Josai, and Shiratorizawa, or at least they need to beat whatever team beats any of those others. Shiratorizawa is basically the best team in Miyagi so it's basically always a game of who is going to go up against Shiratorizawa, they're THE team to beat in Miyagi if a team wants to get to nationals, it would be a massive upset if Shiratorizawa was beat early and the final match pre-nationals didn't involve Shiratorizawa.
I love all seasons, and the they get better as the seasons go. Currently, my fave would be the movie, but I dunno if it would be topped by the next movie hahahaha

The reason you don't understand what is going on is because Japan has WAY more schools per prefecture then most countries AND they also take schooling and education VERY serious so thats why Takeda had to talk with all the third years and tell them that they shouldnt make any decisions that they might regret (in this case it would be playing sports over focusing on their studies) and the stage Daichi is referring to they have only been to once is nationals not the spring tourney.
The game they played on PSP is Monster Hunter (Obviously it looks like a knock off because of copy rights, in the Manga they call it MonHun).

they don't really need to be "invited" to the spring tournament, the spring tournament is an entirely separate tournament that takes place in the spring and starts from the ground up same as the interhigh tournament in the summer. Teams in each prefecture (think like a state in the US) compete with each other at the beginning of each tournament. Some prefectures can send more than one team to nationals but Miyagi prefecture where Haikyuu mostly takes place only gets to send one. The tournament we've been following is the preliminary rounds to determine which team in Miyagi prefecture gets to go to the national level for this interhigh tournament. Then there's the spring tournament which is separate and starts over at regional preliminary rounds again for who goes to nationals of that tournament. All that's happening is there's two national tournaments each year, they lost at the preliminary stage and couldn't make it to nationals for the first tournament but they're determined to win the preliminary round of the next tournament and be the team miyagi prefecture sends to nationals which means defeating teams like Date Tech, Aoba Josai, and Shiratorizawa, or at least they need to beat whatever team beats any of those others. Shiratorizawa is basically the best team in Miyagi so it's basically always a game of who is going to go up against Shiratorizawa, they're THE team to beat in Miyagi if a team wants to get to nationals, it would be a massive upset if Shiratorizawa was beat early and the final match pre-nationals didn't involve Shiratorizawa.
