Jimmy was Jimmy ..he stayed true to the music and his fans...He didn't need the Opry to make his mark...As Marty said , it's their loss

From Blue Tick hounds to Bluegrass music, the man was real and sang what he felt.

Jimmy Martin and Paul William's were the very best bluegrass singers ever.

Best ibma speech in the history of time. Jimmy wore it right on that sleeve always. Some people couldn't take it. But u can believe he meant every word he ever sang. None of these young bucks even come close.

All i can say is that it was the opry's and the fans loss that he was never a member. He was bluegrass royalty.

Bill Monroe the founder of Bluegrass started this ban because of Martin's affair with Bill's daughter and the increasingly outrageous personal behavior that Martin carried on on stage and offstage,.

@@writerrad --- What was the daughter's name? I just want to make sure this is not a fictitious post. When they had this affair, did they get married? Did she bear his child? Please provide the back story as well. I was thinking that Bill Anderson had something to do with it when listening to a recording on youtube of some questions posed to Jimmy. Anyway, provide more detail because I loved his music and want to remember the good times but the bad too and want to find some of Jimmy's persona on and off-stage to remember him by. Also, How can I know you are not just pulling my leg? Just because someone has an affair with someone's daughter, doesn't mean they get automatically blackballed from the greatest institution of country & bluegrass there ever was.

@@dabneyoffermein595 Of course he’s not going to give you information. He is just repeating some nonsense he’s seen on UA-cam. Everybody thinks they know the story of why Jimmy didn’t become a member of The Opry. However the real story isn’t a “story” at all. It’s a series of actions and words that accumulated over time. I won’t come on here and pretend to know because honestly I don’t.
Jimmy was The King of Bluegrass!

My compliments and thanks to whoever made this film and posted it. Great job!
This guy was a REAL MAN.
Tough, independent, creative, brave-took full responsibility for his life. Demanded high quality of himself and those with whom he played. I’m a sure a very difficult person at times. He is, in the real sense, “old school”

This man Jimmy Martin is 400% fortified bluegrass in the rehearsing room. J. D. Crowe tells it like it is. Itdon't get any better than this. I bought the DVD and watched it a houndred times. Coming from abroad it took me a little longer to understand. Thanks for uploading and RIP Jimmy and keep listening to the Bear Family Box.0

Nashville clique with the grand old opry, did a huge disservice to the music they claim to embrace and market. Jimmy Martin may have had some personality issues...But what Opry star hasn't. The Jimmy Martin fans will never forget! We love you Jimmy Martin. Your music will live forever.

I disagree with Marty Stuart that "he dared to be different and he paid the price for it...": Jimmy was Jimmy - he was himself. He was born, raised, and bred a true Tennessean. He was the genuine real deal. I lived in East Tennessee and he talked and acted just like my neighbors.
And in the end, it's better that Jimmy never sold his soul to become part of that snobby GOO crowd.

    • @writerrad

Martin was banned from the Opry because of his personal indiscretions. The ban was initiated by Bill Monroe who was angry at Martin because the married Martin carried on a public affair with Monroe's dauighter Melisa. Martin's abusive treatment of his common law wife Barbara, and his sons which became increasingly public added to this. His increased drunkenness and angry abusive and insulting behavior to the audience, his band mates, and other performers is a factor. He had to be physically dragged off stage in guest appearances at the Opry, so why would the Opry ask him to become a permanent member?

    • @writerrad
      @writerrad 6 років тому +4

Certainly his music puts him on top, but his inability to separate the disaster his personal life is from his professional career ruined his opportunities, which is a tragedy because not just for Bluegrass but for music in general he is a great one.

The Grand Ole Opry never deserved Jimmy Martin. They were a click. Remember the Outlaws weren’t accepted by the Opry either. Some criticize Martin because he saying he was egotistical. What Jimmy Martin was was open and honest and you saw all of him including his flaws. Sad that a lot of people think you have to be perfect. You know…like they are
