Homeowners in Singapore turning to renovation apps to save on costs

  • Renovation apps are gaining traction in Singapore, after struggling to get a foothold in the industry three years ago. Homeowners are using them to cut some middlemen's fees and save on renovation costs, which have climbed about 20%. For example, web app Homeez said it's seeing at least 200 new users every week. Homeowners can select a pre-loaded floor plan, decide their tiles and paints, and contact those suppliers directly or hire a project manager. As labour and material costs rise, industry players said renovation works may get more expensive this year. Rebecca Metteo reports.

    Only works with small renovation and owner needs to take leave to supervise the project. For larger projects there is no way they can manage it this way. It takes years of experience

    It is not about the App. New house owner, inconsiderate people like them only doing their best to make the surrounding neighbors dislike them. It happened to me, when he/she trying to coordinate all different vendors and you don't exactly know the date or what time the worker start working, at 7pm they are still drilling and hacking. The whole Corridor and lift lobby will be very dusty and no vendor think that it is created by them. When you call the HDB register main contractor, they will tell you that they didn't arrange any work, the work is arranged by the house owner. HDB and Town Council already closed for the day. So please policy maker (aka PAP minister) do let us know who can we call for immediate action when this kind of thing happened.

      Absolutely. Yes, that's exactly where all neighbours quarrel started. Some unhappiness were manifested in the form of knocking the walls or making loud noises in the middle of the night.

      People nowadays smarter. Older days people not much education and hands-on skills, so they pay higher for those who know-hows to come and do. Whatever new business or works coming up, will also become sunset business or no jobs one day. This is a cycle.

      ID should target business or office owners. Homeowners preferred to design their own ways, as homes are closer to their hearts than to leave it to someone's idea.
      Office designs are meant to attract business and customers, as well as comfortable workplace for all management, staff and employees. In fact, they have a bigger wallet, isn't it? 😂😂

      @@bantuck I highly agree that Homeez should target home owners while interior designer should target business owners, interior designer are experts in design which is suitable for attracting customers

      @@bantuck problem is there isnt many office or retail jobs enough to sustain business. secondly, the quality demand is really high and these blood sucker id always cant keep up to the standard requirements. Lastly, they will lost to the clients if argument arise as all of these clients are bosses n really have money to sue these id if they cant deliver as promised in contract. Thus, id companies hardly can earn more and take advantage of office and retail deals at all. But they usually easily can chop house owners, especially hdb owners as they are poor and no money to sue them too!

    LOL, they believe that was the more economical option. I've only undergone flat renovations twice, and in both instances, the standard package ranged from 30k to 50k. However, by breaking down my requests into individual items rather than opting for the package, I managed to complete both renovations, spaced ten years apart, for less than 12k each time.

      @masterweaver 8 місяців тому

      Please la, I never compare. I was merely telling facts on how to save money during my own renovation experience.
      5 years ago, I renovated my 4 room flat for under 12k and more then 15 years ago, I renovated my 3 room flat also under 12k. Both are facts.
      The main fact that I am sharing is that instead of paying for those 30k to 50k package, I pick items that I want to renovate for my flat and get many quotation from varies renovation firms picking all the best possible and affortable solution I could find. @@guessmoments

      please la, I was never comparing. I was merely stating the fact that I have done 2 renovation in my time which were space 10 years apart and each costed less then 12k.
      I am recommanding people from my own opinion not to take up those 30k to 50k package as they are over priced. Instead, choose exactly what you need in your renovation then get quote from more then 5 company. This will greatly lower down your cost and by talking to several design firm, you will learn a bit from each of them and avoid getting cheated by others. @@guessmoments
