I wish Pontiac existed now. Was my favorite GM brand. Of course Pontiac might be better off dead since there really is no difference between GM brands any more. Chevy and Cadillac are the same cars with different badging/body panels.

They would have ruined the firebird just like they did to the Camaro. Atleast the WS6 died at its peak. My 60k mile 6 speed WS6 was fast stock and it didnt take much to get it into a 10.8@127mph and I still daily drive it. Bought it box stock in 2012 with 33k miles on it.

@Darius World you might have been able to order a trans am in 1968 but it would have been a 1969 year model. The show you are commenting under shows a 1999 Trans Am as the 30th anniversary edition. 1969 was the first year for the Trans Am option on a firebird.

    • @robertfitzgerald2061

@@jonathanhudson4623 sorry, but EPIC facepalm. The Firebird 400, the Sprint, and base model came out in '67. Chevy also forced Pontiac to ditch their "Corvette Killer" that year. The '67 400 had a Ram Air hood and 325 Hp from the factory. A good dealer would tell you how to remove the clip that kept the secondaries from opening and it then produced 370 HP. It had a superior suspension to the Camaro including 2 adjustable torsion bars from the factory so you could set it up to go from Drag, Road course or oval track. It also came with a Tack Sweep. The Sprint's were available with side scoops and a 300 hp overhead cam inline 6. The Trans Am came out in 1969. I owned a 67 400 car in 86.

@@robertfitzgerald2061 yeah, I guess I was misremembering. The birds apparently were around in 67 and the T/A came out in 69. Hence the T/A having its 30 Anniversary in 99. I always remember reading about Pontiac not bringing out an f-body until 69 after the success of the Camaro that started in 67. All of a sudden I started seeing people talking about 67 and 68 firebirds and it didn't make any sense to me. I guess everything I had seen was talking specifically about the TransAm. It still seems very odd to me that after being a firebird guy for 18 years and build two 10 second streetable birds (89 WS6 formula firebird and 02 WS6 TransAm) I still never saw or heard anyone talk about a 67 or 68 firebird. Every firebird (not TransAm) I had seen or heard of was a 69 as the first year model.

I owned a 1989 TA with a special ordered 350 and it was NOT the GTA model. It was all black, black factory wheels, and black interior! I loved all the huge amber gauge displays at night, like I was in a fighter cockpit! It's funny though how they say it's a throw back to the '69 model but with the new technology nobody in '69 would have imagined - funny because my huge, fat, 4-door family sedan (2014 Ford Taurus SHO) would beat this car in stock form, both 0-60 and in the 1/4 mile! I could use the same phrase they used, technology today they wouldn't have imagined in '99.

Hate to break it to you, but "0.87 g in the corner" isn't great. Even the mid 90s mundane saloon with active suspension, the Citroen Xantia Activa could manage 0.94g. The 80s Ferrari F40 could manage over 1g. I'm sure it's a fun car to drive, but there's a reason these things didn't sell outside of the US.

But first things first I will be installing a monster clutch and a rear end build up with 410 gears. It's no slouch now but I want to make the 5.7 LS1 something that will really put the new mustangs in their place. I've always loved the T/A's my brother had a 78 Macho T/A.

Ryan C 4.10s are engine killers? How? Lol my 99 ws6 6 speed has 4.10s and I think they're great, aside from the fact that my first gear is basically useless on street tires lol, still cruises 75-80 at like 2000 rpm and gets 24-25 highway mpg so idk what you mean lol

Drove it like he stole it for 150k miles and it never missed a beat and he still eventually sold it for good money when he got a newer Mustang. Don't get me wrong I love those cars but besides competitive acceleration (the turbo T/As were awesome at the time) I think the newer car is (obviously) much better all around in pretty much every other aspect. Making 1st basically useless and started to get some traction in secind but would still spin some in 3rd as well. I'm almost 100% positive it ran 12.8@112mph my first night out at Darlington with her. I modded it up quick due to a very bleak health situation. I'm still here though and it's been 5 years but with out changing the engine it's been sitting at 10.8s@127mph for years on stock suspension, clutch, trans, rear end, and engine. All the work I did was headers back and intake forward and a 125 shot after I hit 2nd gear. I still launch weak 2.0 60ft to keep the rear alive. The rear does have a t/a girdle and I'm running drag radials now. I actually installed the hooker long tubes and catless y-pipe 3 days after having part of my pancreas taken out and all of my spleen removed. I had staples from my ribs to my waist holding my stomach shut. Car was in jack stands and it was 95 outside. The Ford mustang of the 90s and early 2000s were slow junk. They waited for the f-body ls1 car to be discontinued before they released the 03 cobra because they didnt want to see exhaust only ls1 cars beating the ass fuzz off their 8-9 psi of blower boosted 4.6 mustangs. People talk alot of crap about how great the 03 cobra was but it was junk. Exhaust and nitrous on an LS1 and a supercharged cobra may as well not even show up at the track. If the 4.6 can have a 50+% increase in power from a blower, why cant an ls1 spray a 125? Its not even close to a 50% increase. Most stock LS1s could out run the blower cobra anyway, sucking its own air. The 125 shot would just be a slaughter.

Yet the Mandela effect is showing there were production released 1967 and 1968 firebirds/TransAm. I know damn well the Camaro came out in 1967 but the firebird didnt come out until 1969. I'm not shitting you, look up the 1967 or 1968 firebird. I've always been a firebird guy. I've got an 89 ws6 formula that I built a full race stroker 383 for and I converted it to a t56 out of a lt1 Camaro. It started as a tpi305 and 700r4 combo. I also own a 60,000 mile ws6 T/A that runs 10.8s@127mph. A man doesn't build two 10 second firebirds and fuck up the year that firebirds came out.

Correct the Firebird was introduced by Pontiac in 1967 but the Trans Am was not available until 1969, hence the 1999 Trans Am 30th Anniversary Edition.

Wasn't the 1997 the 30th anniversary? I had a 2002 Z28 that was a 35th anniversary. I know that's a Camaro and this is a T/A, but didn't they both appear for 1967? Maybe the T/A didn't make an appearance until 1969? And the HP is underrated. Mine had 352HP, bone stock, but it's statistics said it had 335HP.

The first year of production for the Firebird was 1967. The Trans Am was introduced in 1969.
