I enjoy these 60s and 70s home and away games. Tiger games great. But it means the archive must plenty of other clubs unseen games.

I only wonder what the Bulldogs would have achieved from 1974 to 1976 if Robert Rose junior & Neil Sachse had not suffered their terrible accidents. There's no doubt that their tragic accidents affected the Bulldogs players & the whole footy club. Despite that they still made the finals in 1974 & 1976 & just missed the finals in 1975. The Bulldogs team at the end of 1973 were basically ready for a shot at the finals & even higher, & I believe probably a Grand Final chance if those 2 players didn't get tragically injured. Overall it was an amazing effort by the Bulldogs to still remain competitive for the next 3 years & make the finals in 2 out those 3 years.

cursed for 7-8 years, right up to Templeton going down with a serious knee in a night game before the proper season had started '81.reigning brownlow medallist,he was the only shining light that had given supporters any joy and reason to go at all '78-'80

Why has there been this constant necessity over the last forty years to speed the game up? It's barely watchable now and infested with ads but l couldn't take my eyes off this.
Golden era of football and this Richmond side is still one of the strongest I've seen. My uncle took me as a six yr old to see the Cats take on the reigning premier the following season at Waverley. We had a decent side but these Tigers ran rings around us. Also interesting to see Welsh here playing for Footscray. He was the difference for Richmond in the '80 finals series when it was really on the line.

Wrong Peter Welsh. Woosha Welsh was from Yinnar in S Gippsland & played 5 seasons at Hawthorn before transferring to Richmond in 1980.

I stand corrected...I'd forgotten that he played for Hawthorn.

@@hanajinks1044 I meant that there were 2 players named Peter Welsh playing in the league at the time.

It's not that simple. The development of the game occurs mainly outside the control of the AFL/VFL

"Development" is an interesting word to choose. "Destruction" would be another one.

interestingly Footscray were able to knock off this very Powerful era Richmond 3 x's in 4 meetings dating from Rd.22 1973 - Rd.4 1975,i was at that Rd.4 1975 game at the western oval
as a 7 yr old,we were reigning premiers and the dogs belted us by 11 goals on a perfectly sunny saturday afternoon in April,we managed only 4 goals for the whole game in perfect conditions

I recall they troubled Hawthorn in the 70s too, being a kid Hawthorn supporter during that period.

To think that Fox Footy has the whole ABC TV archive at their disposal and does hardly anything with it .... except occasionally butchering games into 30 minute "minis".
