I am Mexican and I have monolids and I appreciate SO much that you say that it is very western to expect the eyeliner to look in certain way. All eye shapes are beautiful and it is very hurtful to feel that your monolids can't have good make up, when, in reality, there are many ways to do it. Thanks for doing this video, love from Mexico :D
You are the first who states that "You're here because you have similar lids to mine" and I'm shook. Thanks for the tips. It's refreshing to know how other ppl do their liner. I have similar monolids/hooded eyes like you. I do a medium wings and use the eyelid tapes above the crease so my liner shows a bit more. Plus it makes my eye more awake. Also, when I do mascara it looks more flattering.
Dude. Amazing tutorial. I also struggle w the fact that whenever i draw in my eyeliner it just doesn't look like the way it's 'supposed' to dso until i realised my ideal would be the western style and my double eyelids are essentially useless bc they're too small to be seen as double eyelids but too big in the way thety eat up my bloody winged liner. But yeah i totally agree with the fact that 'it doesn't have to show everytime you open your eyes'. God when we put it into words it just sounds awful, but honestly im getting used to it now and it's cool. You're abnsolutely an inspiration. We stan.
personally, i do my eyeliner following the "edge" of my eye and either straighten it out or follow it completely to get a more "happy" look because a dead straight liner makes my eyes sad :'(. yeah idk hope it helps idk XD
i don't have monolids, but i still struggle with applying eyeliner and eyeshadow that works for my eyes. I'm just here because i love and support your videos :) love you little intro about not feeling discouraged and your journey to embracing your own individual eyeshape/eyelid.
I’ve recently started practicing eyeliner looks and came across this video which was so timely. 😭 Thank you for sharing your tips from light to heavy eyeliner looks. It’s definitely been such a frustrating process when mistakes are made but what you said really reminded and encouraged me that it’s really okay and the beauty of makeup is that it’s never going to look the same all the time. have a great day and week ahead! 🤍
I had trouble with getting the angle of the flick/wing right but now I find doing my eyeliner with my eye closed and following the eye shape or the wrinkle/crease I get from closing my eye works perfectly. I also stay 1mm above the corner at the end of the eye (where the flick goes) as it looks better that way on me. Took 3 years to do winged eyeliner properly and used to take me 10min to do it because I never could get them even. But for anyone who needs it: don't give up! Just keep practising and experimenting and you'll get there eventually. Don't be afraid of eyeliner, the eyeliner should be afraid of you!
You're seriously the queen of winged eyeliner!! Although I dont have monolids myself ive always found eyeliner really tricky for my eye shape - I think i'll try using a felt tip liner and see how that goes! Hope u have a great day sandy
I'm so glad I came across your video! My eyelids are more like yours and I have found that I don't relate to many eye makeup tutorials! So thank you for going over your technique!
I remember back in high school was when I started getting into liner... it was NOT the best idea 😂 I remember only in my junior/senior year I finally, slowly, started getting better at it. But like you said at the beginning, I also was trying to do eye looks that didn’t work for my eyes, and it looked really terrible! It was very frustrating to try following directions that didn’t work for you & not knowing why you couldn’t do these cool looks, and have your makeup as good as other people did. And I never realized till I started looking back on the few pics I had like WOAH that’s... a lot. Trust me it was BAD bad. Tutorials like these are great! 🥰 I’ve been working on my eyeshadow skills since I’m still not sure how far or where to blend it out
Sandy, you've seriously mastered the art of liner for Asian eyes 💕thank you for stepping us through the process, and in such a dedicated comprehensive way. I know it might sound cliche and cheesy but you're such an oriental beauty!
11:51 i got all misty eyed at this omg. it was like such a mind blower for some reason that I *didnt* have to have my eyeliner showing at the time. loving makeup and my monolids eyes simultaneously has always been a challenge but it's nice to know that the two don't have to be enemies
OMG!! this is so helpful, I have hooded lids too and I've struggled to get my winged liner right all these years. (tbh the same eye shape is the main reason I subscribed lols) also, I hope you talk about your hair more like some tutorials or how you style them in the morning etc. cause they look GORGEOUS. xoxo have a great day
shusanne suen I have a hair curling routine up and for straight hair days.. I just wake up and toss it to the side so it wouldn’t be much of a tutorial 😓
loved how instructive this video is! you’re well-spoken and i like that about you. the liner looks fantastic, and so do your brows! perhaps consider doing a brow tutorial too? thank you 💓
bro, i have the same eye shape as you and this was very helpful. i'm a complete noob in makeup and was very frustrated when the other videos i watched didn't really help me, so thank you so much!
Really liked hearing your thoughts and viewpoints, they helped me a lot with reframing the way I think about myself in a healthier and more accepting way, subscribed
thank you for this!! last school year I wore winged liner every day but then I stopped bc I got lazy so I forgot how to do it on my uneven eyelids. I love brush tip matte liquid liners !
Subscribed because you literally understand my struggle! I dont do mascara too bcz nothing there girl! Hahaha I've been wanting to try eyeliner nowadays, I never do it before but I'm going to start doing it now!
I'm indian from the northeastern region where my people originiated from different parts of East/Southeast Asia hence why I look East Asian and have mololids and have struggled with eyemakeup my entire life so thank you soooo much for this video it's legit helped me with doing my eyeliner💗.
i like what you said about the demure, sometimes there sometimes not (there has to be a word for that), almost unique mystery aspect of eyeliner on asian eyelids when it doesn't show all the time XD I love that too - i don't think eyeliner should always be visible when looking straight on haha. it's like a subtle flash of detail, like a pinky ring, like a bit of clear lip gloss, or like a black coat with a bright flashy red inner lining.
So glad i found your channel! I have the saaammmee lids as you and im semi new to make up. Right now for eye liner i just colouring in the crease hahahaha so its really nice to know that i have options hahaha. AND your eye shadow skills... i... need... to... learn! Keep doing what youre doing... amazing!!!
Gurl I literally hated myself for a lonnnnng time, cuz i always tried to follow like James Charles tutorials/ others Beauty gurus, but I can’t follow cuz of my eyes, and all my friends was doing, but just now I realized that other types of makeup matches w my face and I can do, and now I’m just in love w my eyes😌
Will you please do an eye lashes tutorial for monolids?! I really struggle trying to find fake eyelashes because most just swallow my eye shadow up and when I take the band off it basically just rips my eyeliner off =/
i'm white but my eyes are incredibly small and hooded. i always loved cat's eyes but could never do one because it looked weird/the way i learned the wing looked no straight since my eyes have little creases. this was a lovely tutorial, thank you so much for the help!
Your tutorial really helped me, i was looking for thin eyeliner tutorial and like none of them was something i wanted, glad i found this video , also you are sooooo pretty and your voice, love it ❤️❤️
Subscribed, rare to see asian beauty presented anywhere, my friend is asian and she asked me to do her makeup and this is why i am here, thanks a lot! I hope i do her justice!
I got the same eye shape as yours, monolid and kinda hooded. I'm very beginner in makeup and I notice that my eyeliner that I drew badly do disappears after I open my eyes. I agree with you that eyeliner didn't have to show everytime. Love your video lots! 😍
Love this! Thank you for sharing what works for you. I'll try it this way next time. Agree w/ you re your point re liner in the inner lids -- it doesn't always have to show when you open your eyes! How freeing :)
My eyes are a lot like yours, I have monolids with small mobile lids and they’re very oily. I’m so glad I find your channel because eye makeup frustrates me 😔
If there's a crease then it's not a monolid. "Mono," a prefix meaning "one/single." If you do your research, monolids are eyes that do NOT have a distinct crease that separates the lids into two parts, which is what I have. I wouldn't know what type of eyes you have, sorry.
Marika Rose it’s actually my sensual chocolate makeup look but toned down! (No eyeshadow on the bottom and instead of a gradient lip, just throw on gloss)
this actually helped a lot! I am first-timer and I always fail to make identical wings in both eyes but for some reason, when I followed this vid, I somehow made it identical! Although, it's not that perfect yet 😅 but at least I'm getting to it! ❤
I prefer wings that swee upwards but sadly the outer corner of my eye droops down and is kind of hooded in a sense. My lashes also point downwards so upward wings look really weird on me..I guess I have to be content with straight wings. :/
ok is it just me having crappy eyeliner or is it that my eye shape is super hooded?? cuz like i will put eyeliner on, then blink, and when i open my eyes again my hooded eyelids will literally rub off all the eyeliner. this was w liquid eyeliner btw. so i tried eye pencil but it STILL smudged. smh...
I have monolids and I don’t even bother filling it in cause it’s too hard . When I did try to fill it in, it would look horrible so I just do the wing and bam! It’s done xD
“ I have no lashes, so mascara does nothing for me.”

Sichenmakeupholic has diagrams to follow as she's doing her makeup. Maybe that will help you? It helped me understand where and how to blend!
thank you for calling out the western prejudice about eyeliner showing all the time with eyes open! bravo, queen! 👏

Also brow game strong too!! 😍
Everything u said were so relatable! Mascara does nothing on our lashes, thicker inner corner line to hide eyelash strip, & more! 🥰
Thank you so much!! I’m trying to start so fingers crossed

you have hooded eyelids, not monolids. your excess skin covers your crease but you do have a crease.
@Ai I speak personally from having monolids and no, I do not have a crease.
