One big difference that I’m seeing which Kasey didn’t mention is that Poscas look pretty solid when used for big patches. But these Sakura ones remind me a bit of the markers I used as a kid in how you can clearly still see the streaks and also the darker looking overlap in those streaks
i feel like streakiness comes with it own vibes. Sometimes the texture is really nice to have on a picture, but sometimes you don't want it there. Its something to consider at least
To be fair, my poscas do that same streaking if I use fine tipped markers to fill in a large area too. I almost always have to do a second layer to even them out.
@@tanwencooper6928 Fair enough. And I guess streakiness could also be considered to be a nice texture in some cases. But in my case at least Poscas are more consistent in color. So if you overlap ink, the area with twice the amount of ink doesn’t get darker, just more opaque. ‘Cuz in the example with the sakura markers, you can clearly see where the edges of two separately colored areas overlap ‘cuz it looks that much darker. That’s my biggest peeve in all this. It creates an actual change in value, not just in opaqueness
You don't have to pump Posca pens; just depress the tip once and hold it. Just be mindful and ready to release it when the paint starts flowing or you will end up with a blob of paint. It saves your marker tips and it's much faster.
Yeah it feels like it's almost a lil bit for dramatic effect sometimes, or maybe the first person who made a video did it for dramatic effect and everybody else has been following suit. I think you have to visualize the inside of the marker and the way that the paint would flow and the connections that are being made. And maybe understand a lil bit about the physics of fluids. I find the shaking is a lil more important than the pumping. Like you shake, pump once or twice and if you start to get a little bit of paint showing up on at the top of the nib. You can shake it to the point that the nib then gets full and you don't have to keep pumping till it's at the end of the nib.
do you know where i can find it? i tried googling “the wall paper” and “paper the wall” and its just showing me wallpaper edit: nevermind; brand is CANSON for anyone else looking
After seeing the results I really prefer the Posca pens so I hope you continue to use the Posca pens. Regardless, great drawings👍 Especially the gradient inside the tre/cat’s mouth.
I ended up with a pack of metallic permapaques because they were on very heavy discount at my local art store. And they're... Bad. Granted, it may be because they're old (they were probably sitting in the store for a long while, hence the discount) but they are squeaky, streaky, and run out really, REALLY fast. We're talking "can't even complete an illustration with them" fast. Also, I find my white posca needs an almost ridiculous amount of shaking to come out opaque, but when it finally gets there, it is OPAQUE. Definitely sticking with my poscas, despite the price tag. EDIT: I've also never had an issue with poscas eating my 300gsm watercolour paper, but the paper does tend to curl. Giving the back of the paper a spritz of water and then sandwiching between two books for a while fixes it pretty well.
I love POSCA markers and use them all the time. The absolute only paper I have used that seems like it was made for POSCA markers is Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper. ✌
I wish they dried a little flatter but they definitely seem like a worthy alternative, even if they lean a little more on the “marker” and less on the “paint”
I love you so much Kasey. Ive been watching you since probably middle school. ive been stuggling to keep my artist side alive but you are really an inspiration. Love you 💕
Hullo Kasey, I hope you check out the new Karin Brushmarker Pro and Deco Pigment markers! I just really envision them taking over my preferences for POSCA! I love how they worked on paper! and Rocks!! You can give their basic set a try and they have enough colors so you can even mix colors! I do enjoy watching your videos and your Art is as wonderful as ever Kasey!
I bought a pack of cheap paint brush markers on Amazon, which have the brush nib and a fine point on the other end. They're honestly way better than Poscas, I get very little streaking and no need to prime them either. Plus they don't eat the paper very much because the brush nib is softer. I love them. I was going to get the Arrtex brush paint markers but they were a little pricey so I found a cheaper alternative and they're fantastic. They have about 40 colours including a metallic silver and gold.
@@ForeverSoaringFree they are GuangNa. One side is a 1mm extra fine tip and the other is a flexible brush tip 1-5mm. I got the 48 colours set. They say Acrylic Markers GN.6200-48 and have a picture of a kind of zentangle/mindfulness colouring page lion's head on the box. Hope that helps!
@@DreamiMusho I think this works out better if you do need more than 48 colours then you can buy odd open stock poscas or something like that to add to the range. I would have liked a really saturated cool-toned red but I have a couple of those in various different brands that I've gotten from Scrawlrbox subscription boxes or the Poscas I bought years ago.
I mix posca with paint, i pump it into a tray with paint and mix them (sometimes) but the fact they pump out means you can mix them together and paint with just the posca Its fun sometimes
That cat reindeer is so cute ! Could you try if you can use colored pencils over top of these paint pens ? Like if the colored pencils still work on top of the scratched paper from the pens ?
2:20 How were you able to identify that as specifically Ham? Do tomcats meow lower-pitched than queencats? Come to think of it, that distant meow sounds alarmingly like how Emile's own cat, Kirby, would meow before he unexpectedly passed from renal failure.
definitely “apples vs oranges” as posca is a paint marker, and the sakura is an acrylic marker. i love using the original fat dual tip markers for big chunky illustrations. i’ve used these for 20yrs, but getting the fats are near impossible, if not extremely cost prohibitive as

Sakura becomes solid after a few coats!
I would love to see these tested on non paper materials, like wood cookies!
I'd love that too! Kasey's ornament and clay vids are really cozy to watch.
These work good on mixed media paper

There's a type of paper called The Wall that no art supply will eat through, I recommend it for paint markers!
I mean....how certain are they about it? I have a feeling they never tried the kids water based felt tip markers.
@@ChiseledDiamondif someone calls an art supply "the wall" I am pretty sure that they are sure about the durability

You can just hold the pen down and wait for the paint to soak the tip, no need to pump and destroy the nib. It even soaks the nib quicker.

Its soothing seeing you fill the characters out, great video Kasey 🎄

Good timing! I was just looking for something to watch while I eat
The cat cookie is so adorable! You should make a video where you bake Xmas cookies with your character designs lil Xmas ants Xmas cats etc 🤩
I love the cat tree! It’s so pretty

They will make a great complement to the Posca’s. And brown kitty is my favorite! 🥰

Yupo is THE paper to use with Poscas. Ultimate smoothness. It feels like you're opaquing an animation cel.

POSCA fanboi checking in! 💖
your videos take away my anxiety..
Thanks for doing this, kasey. Been going back and forth on more poscas or buying the new simptap by arrtx.
The graffiti ones work great for coverage on canvas 💁 also I do a lot of graffiti so that might be a my own preference
Merry crhistmas to all, except artist loft, and to all a good night
LOL! Love a deep cut.
posca wins this round for me
1. sakura is streaky
2. I don't like the colours, none of them are tones I enjoy
Totally fair!

Love these lil Christmas-y buddies=3 Have a nice day=)
You should try Grabbie acrylic, paint markers their white paint marker really pops and I love the feel personally
Inspiring 💛
The blue cat reminds me of Oggy from Oggy and the Cockroaches. All three drawings are cute tho :)
KASEY POSTS ON A WEEKDAY AGAIN?
As a treat!
BETTER THAN POSCA??!? thats bold, I sooooo need to try these ❤❤❤
The blue cat reminds me of oggy, just needs to add some roaches. 😂❤
YOUR CAT'S NAME IS HAM TOOOO?????? i thought we were originallll
I had a teacher in second grade that wouldn't allow us to color drawings with pens! Pens were only for outlining and pencils were for coloring... 🙄😒
Second!!!!!

Team posca
I like Sakura other markers that are water based 😊
Good video
They look a bit like the Sakura brush pens
Non-artist here. If these aren’t meant for paper, what are they meant for? 🤔
A canvas. They also work well on wood
@@katw6757 Thanks! 😊

blue cat? omg... gumball
these are definitely paint MARKERS versus PAINT markers. theyre cool but not rlly an alternative to posca imo
