You should watch Film Courage's interview with Corey Mandell. He has this idea of "creative integration" which more or less covers what you talk about here. He theorizes that writers tend to fall into two camps: intuitive and structural. The former refers to those emotional, exploratory writers who tend to have beautifully authentic characters and dialogue but terrible structure, while the latter refers to those who take a more mathematical approach to story structure resulting in gripping plots but with less engaging/authentic characters. He argues that a writer must actively train the side that doesn't come naturally to them. I think in his courses he offers exercises for improving each side, but I've never taken them.
A maxim I learned years ago is: Any work of art must continually justify its own existence. What you said about losing focus when only writing emotionally speaks to me in that way.
I genuinely think you are the best screenwriting UA-camr. No one teaches me as many new things as you do nor do they motivate me to write as much as you do.
Your channel has really helped me and I’m much closer to finishing my first screenplay. It’s only for practice and I’m not confident in my writing, but hopefully one of my stories will sell.
@@Andrewhamiltonfox777 I appreciate it really. When I was little and even to this day, my ideas just come to me, my problem is getting it down on the paper. I try to write a few pages each day and when I come back to it, I skim through it and fix some mistakes I’ve done and rewrites. I wish to make my writing skills better so that one day my stories can sell and maybe work for a production studio and create my own content.
On the topic of taking it from Idea to Sold Screenplay--I have to say: so many beginning and hobbyist writers are shooting themselves in the foot when they think of it in terms of "Here's my idea, and I'm trying to bring that idea out of my head and onto the paper". I definitely was making that mistake. In my experience, if your script is the same as your initial idea, then you haven't learned anything in the process or listened to the producers or the other people you were working with. Film is a collaborative medium--it's not novel writing. I find it's really helpful to ask myself, when I'm at the crossroads: "Hey, Jeremy, do you want to write your initial idea--or do you want an excellent script?"
My god this guy's voice is hypnotic! ♥️ I love all the videos and have learned loads for my last three books but, apart from that, you should have a job reading on Audible! ♥️♥️♥️
I think this is likely the most relevant video for me at least that you've made. my biggest problem right now is that I'm terrified of writing and trying thing's. Or I lack thick skin. It's strange as everything besides writing I understand and accept internally that failure is part of the process.

Great channel! I have Learnt so much on writing scripts. Do you have any opportunities to send scripts to yourself? Would love to send a few scenes. Know if the story is any good.
Hi! It would be really interesting to know about your view on creating a character for artists (who draw). What your view and advice to create a character for concept art/movie visually as a writer.
Why does it seem hard for storywriters to see the intellectual, technical side of storywriting? Well, the previous video I watched right before this ended with the answer. The video was called "David Phillips - The Magical Science of Storytelling". Good storytelling by its nature bypasses the intellectual part of the brain.
Tyler has no references he is a newbie and tries you to sell his own course. It is a making money strategy and you will learn crap from him. It works like a placebo you think you making progress but really you only learn techniques which are not worth to learn and also brings you up from learning your own style of creating new ideas and stories. He only made 1 script, he has not won any Filmfestival/Oscar etc. It is the same for most of the courses. You do not need any paid courses to get good in writing. Do not listen to this bullshit!!!
if you have tons of knowledge on story writing then why haven't you written any film script or any book 📚. We want to know your credibility or you are one of the fake gurus......
That's what so frustrating about Tyler.........he's says a whole lot while saying very little at the same time. I will admit his podcast is good here and there but other than that, he doesn't have much weight to his brand that would make you trust what he's trying to sell as knowledge.
@@darnellmajor9016 yes he must have some credibility to say it. Coz even I can give sermon on how to become writer just by copy pasting from internet. I hope he must have something to show or else I had wasted hours on his channel ......
@@jatannipurte I wouldn’t call it wasting hours, Tyler is a great teacher, just like a teacher of art doesn’t necessarily have to be a painter, Tyler doesn’t necessarily have to be a writer/ filmmaker. ( I’m not saying he’s not but even if he isn’t). His videos prove that he’s a really good critic and judge of what makes a good story in a script or a film. Also, honestly, even if he’s getting all of his information from the internet and not from personal experience I’m still grateful that he put all of these resources into one contained free channel in video format for us to have as a guide. If you’re a real writer you’d know what information he gives is valuable or not. It’s basic critical thinking and writer intuition.

Well it makes sense because Tyler is only focusing on story.
