🥁Drummer Yoyoka’s BIOGRAPHY🥁
Born in October 2009, YOYOKA started playing drums at the age of two, played live at four, and formed her family band "Kaneaiyoyoka" at five. When she was six years old, she released her first CD while in kindergarten.
In addition to drums, YOYOKA sings, plays the piano, and is a songwriter. In 2018, at the age of eight, she became the youngest weekly champion in the under-18 category of the international female drummer contest "Hit Like A Girl". Her application video, a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Good Times Bad Times" was featured on NBC, NPR, in Rolling Stone Magazine and in Billboard and then spread all over the world. Her drumming prowess has been praised by music legends such as Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), Ian Paice( Deep Purple), Roger Taylor(Queen), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Sheryl Crow, Gene Simmons and Eric Singer (KISS), Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), Hayley Williams (Paramore), Sass Jordan, Tony Royster Jr., Brad Wilk (Rage Against the Machine), Derrick McKenzie (Jamiroquai) and many more.
In 2018, at the age of eight, YOYOKA appeared in Japan's famous rock festival "RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL in EZO" as the youngest performer ever. The following year, she made a surprise appearance Fall Out Boy’s stage at Summer Sonic Tokyo 2019 in front of an 20,000 audience. Later that year, she was invited to Cyndi Lauper’s show at Tokyo Orchard Hall as the guest drummer for two songs on the last day of her Japan tour.
YOYOKA is endorsed by world-class brands such as Nike, Moncler, and UNIQLO. In 2018, she shot a Nike campaign in Thailand, followed by a Moncler campaign shoot in New York in 2019. She became the face of Moncler alongside actor Will Smith. Both campaigns were launched worldwide and were very well-received.
Already at the age of eight, YOYOKA became the youngest drummer ever to sign an endorsement contracts with drum makers Pearl and VIC FIRTH. Since then, she has also signed with Zildjian, CYMPAD and DW.
YOYOKA’s attention from the world does not stop. In January and May 2018, YOYOKA was invited to LA twice to make an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, one of the most popular show in the United States, where she was praised by Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters who made a shoutout to her on the show. She also impressed the audience with a successful show at the legendary live house "Whisky A Go Go".
In April 2019, YOYOKA was selected as Newsweek's "100 Japanese People Respected by the World" and "World's TOP500 drummers” by Drummer World, both the youngest in history.
In 2020, Pearl showcased her talent at the 2020 NAMM show in Anaheim, the world’s largest musical instruments trade show. She was the youngest female and only Japanese drummer ever to appear.
The impact of YOYOKA continues to spread worldwide. Her favorite drummers are John Henry Bonham, Chris Coleman, Nate Smith, Chad Smith and Dave Grohl. Her dream is to travel and play sessions with people all over the world.
She is 11, according to scared number, 14 will put this child on a road of incomprehensible perfection. God bless smart people.
Is it just me, or does it feel like Yoyoka and Friends keep giving _us_ birthday presents?
Excellent!!!
👍😙♥️🥁🎶🤘😎
Any time I can hear Yoyoka, her friends and her family, its always a gift to fans......and me! JUMP!

Yoyoka and friends just used the time machine and sent me back to 1984.
How cool is it that these great, professional musicians would get together and make these videos in honor of Yoyoka’s birthday. They obviously have a lot of respect for her. ❤️👍😎
At least guiter(s) and drum are not professional musicians. They are amateur youtubers.
Eddie Van Halen would be so damn proud.

Let’s take the time to appreciate the drumming on this song.. it’s a straight enough song but Alex’s unorthodox style really makes this song too and Yoyoka nails it as always.
On all levels AMAZING
You're the birthday girl, but you're the one who keeps gifting us amazing song covers. God bless you Yoyoka and keep on rocking!! ❤️❤️
Her sticks are huge.
She still has 6 years before she is 18.
Stunning level of talent.
This cover gives the original run for its money.
Yoyoka….. Eddie Van Halen would be proud of you, great sound
Damn! What aren’t the Japanese good at? It can’t be easy to sing in such a foreign language. All these musicians are top notch!
My thoughts exactly... Sing the song.. OK.. Now sing it in a completely different language... Um, Er, uh.... Nope... Well done all around.
Very very respectable and the musicianship was top shelf! YOKOKO KILLS IT as always.
Thank you for evaluating Yoyoka and the other Japanese musicians. We have grown with listening to American Rock’n roll🎧🎶🎸🥁
LOVE is the most essential ingredient of all things , when we have genuine love all thing is possible , because it’s a gift from God ✌️
Everyone is so ridiculously tight. The singer is amazing in every single performance. Congratulations! And happy b-day Yoyoka
Singer has little depth or edge. I agree it's ridiculous
Eddie is smiling from above
At 12 years old, Yoyoka is one of the best drummers in the world. Happy birthday, young lady!!
Holy shit they have the legendary Nobuo Yamada here!? Respect.
I've never wanted to be a 12 year old girl in my life until NOW!
Thank you, Yoyoka and the other musicians, for sharing your talents.
You can hear they are japanese by the growly vibrato, if you have heard enough j-rock/j-pop you hear this kind of vibrato (beautiful vibrato in my opinion) from japaneses singers, is like middle growl, in the back of the mouth and very open. Aside of that Yoyoka keeps mesmerizing me, what and amazing drummer she had become, first time I watch her was with the Rosanna cover, but this, come on!!! Flawless, damnit, she nailed every single beat, in tempo, everything. You rock Yoyoka, you are so incredibly, undoubtly amazing
Satsuma
LIVE! ONE-SHOT! NO AUTO-TUNE! REAL MUSICIANS! REAL MUSIC! ABSOLUTE KILLER!
Even as I miss that adorable child rubbing her nose at the end of Onyx I salute the emergence of a truly respected musicians' drummer.
Happy 12th Yoyoka dear.
The guitar tone is killing!
Sounds like real Van Halen.
The most surprising thing is that a little girl is playing the drums very very well among experienced older men. Happy birthday, Yoyoka. I wish I had a child like you.
She's NO ORDINARY GIRL DRUMMER !!!!😆😁😆😁
You'll know why if you read her resume in description !!!!
I have deleted my semi-obnoxious comment.
She's a pro. She plays and acts like a pro.
GM Miss Energy Much Love To You And Family Always 🙏 ❤ 🌞 🇯🇵 🇺🇸
This should be fun. This band is better than anything out there.
On a scale of 1-10, this birthday party is infinity plus one ;-)
Î believe.rock music never die,
Japanese save rock music forever,
What’s more amazing with all of these was that Yoyoka picked all the musicians and songs (from what I understand) herself. In a way, she should be credited as a producer. To be able to get all these talented professional musicians together just by calling and asking them was quite a feat. Mind you, they have to do rehearsals and all the sound checks before the broadcast. To be able to take their time to support this young lady was quite generous of them, paid or not. As popular as Yoyoka is, she’s still not quite established in the music business (pls. no flying shoe towards me). That’s just a fact. But these pros respect her talent enough (which is something) to accept her invitation and do the work to make this successful and at the same time celebrate Yoyoka’s birthday. And also, from what I read from the other musicians, they were grateful to Yoyoka for bringing them together and happy to have met each other. I’m just grateful for all of it. The generosity of the Soma family is really admirable. You don’t see it everyday and hope they stay grounded as they are. ✌🏼🙏🏽
Btw, I know most fans expected LZ or RATM, (me too) but I thought doing a version of Stevie’s Superstition would have been so cool with this group. I think the keyboard player would’ve been up to that task.
I read somewhere, maybe one of comments in original showcase that "Wishing Well" was suggested by the bassist.
@@tibetbill I would have given you 10 thumbs-up if I could.
@@tibetbill Assuming you mean NB, she’s being pushed for a different reason. Aside from being a decent multi instrumentalist, her bass playing in particular is unexpectedly good, and getting there as a singer and songwriter, she has fantastic presence. She gets that whole professional wrestling swagger somehow coupled with such sheer joy that she’s fun to watch. But as a drummer she’s still basically a novelty act, an unusually good eleven-year-old. Without Yoyoka we’d all think she was great. (Actually,, for eleven, she is.) But Yoyoka passed novelty a long time ago. Her timekeeping rivals Ringo’s. NB isn’t pulling Purdie Shuffles on Rosanna, she isn’t channeling John Bonham, she isn’t blowing the doors off Burn. Yoyoka isn’t basing anything on showmanship, it’s all in the playing. Put her on vinyl without crediting her and no one has a clue she’s twelve (barely). She’d get work based on the tracks. We’re listening to a seasoned professional, a top 500 in the world drummer. What’s most amazing about Yoyoka is that her age is damned near beside the point. The awe is for her age. The respect is not.
@@rockingrandma4711 that would’ve been a good choice too. I love that song by Terence Trent D’arby right?
@@tibetbill my thoughts about Nandi is that she needs to practice. She can’t hide behind her age forever so she need to do the work. We can all see what Yoyoka’s hard work have done to her career. And what proper guidance and right priorities to keep her focus on her goal to be the best drummer and her wish to work with other musicians around the world. And she’s doing that, slowly but surely. She would’ve done some tours too. If not for the pandemic, she might also have collaborated with more bands. So whether the ‘industry’ is pushing Nandi or not is not up to her, she’s just a kid. She might have the wants and desires to do stuff but at the end of the day, It comes down to what her parents priorities are and goals for her. They still got to decide what’s right and what’s wrong for their daughter. So far, it seems like their priorities are worlds a way from the Somas. That’s why I give so much kudos to Yoyoka’s parents. They’re trying to balance between supporting and nurturing their kids from what they want to keeping everything grounded. I think they’re doing a terrific job since both Shido and Yoyoka have the admirable humility and confidence as kids and musicians. And that stems from their teachings. Anyway, another thing I can think of as to why they seem to push or promote Nandi because of her accessibility and the communication factor / language. I don’t know if Nandi has a manager or a handler to handle the business side of things but from I understand it’s just her dad. But like you and several others, it’s frustrating to see that the more deserving isn’t getting the same promotion. But I think that’s our job as fans to be frustrated for her. I don’t think It bothers Yoyoka and thinks about it. I think her parents filters those. She just do the work and we love her for it. ✌🏼
I CANT WAIT ..FOR YOUR NEXT BIRTHDAY lots of love from L.A.
Happy Belated Birthday, Yoyoka.......love you!

Great job Yoyoka and the band. Vocalist is top notch.
As soon as the performance started, the great play grabbed my heart, I was absorbed in the play, and as soon as the song was over, I wanted "I want this member to listen to more songs!" .. Perhaps everyone wants it.
Nice work Yoyoka-san, awesome party, thanks for inviting me, I had a great time. I like your band, they are awesome.

SATSUMA3042!!! Fantastic playing by all... Yoyoka is an inspiration!
Yoyoka Rocks!
This is the best version ever
The guitarist (who is a phenomenal musician) goofed on the first pentatonic flourish and came out of it an 8th note behind - which is super easy to do without being able to fully hear what YOU are doing Vs. that freaky time change and syncopated interplay between the drums and keys (because you're still trying to locate the feel of it several bars in, Ed and Alex were total freaks when they wanted or needed to be). But, Yoyoka pulled it off with an ad-lib tom fill at the end re-meshing the group at the switch from guitar to keyboard solos. Impressive, to say the very least. She is way more than a trained musician. That kind of on-the-fly band leading is what I look for in a great and she definitely has it naturally - and she's humble about it! I will NOT fault anyone for exposing the virtues of a natural born drum killer :P I also like how the guitarist threw in some Ed-ities to remind us all that the guy was simply chock full of quirky super memorable musical stylings. Edward was simply way beyond his instrument(s), he was even more musical than he was a virtuoso, had he chosen harmonica to play he would have blown our minds with it AND made some of the best music ever made at the same time.
The name of guitarist is Satsuma. Watch bellow two videos of Satsuma

Wow! You just made me appreciate this young lady all the more. Thank you.
For those of us who aren't musicians, can you give the time reference where that happens, please?
@@anguskumikoforsyth7808 The solo begins at 2:20 , he's doing fine until the end of 2:23 , then at 2:24 he comes out of a pentatonic grouping of cascading notes about 1/8th note behind, noticeable by 2:27 . He then continues to add the length of another 1/16th note beyond this and by 2:31 as he's searching for Yoyoka's snare beat and she catches it and drives the band forward in time (not in number of beats per measure) by the missing 1/8th note with a ghost note on her snare followed by a roll of two extra toms on the way out - all signatures the other musicians caught and were able to follow her back into the keyboard solo without all feeling out of time. This all happened due to Satsuma playing the echos instead of the live notes. Edward Van Halen almost always used an echo device, an electronic effect that added the sound of an echoed note as if it were bouncing off of a canyon wall, in the section of this guitar solo that ends at 2:26 you can hear Satsuma lose his sense of where those echos should be and he plays over them with live (real time) notes throughout the next bar. Listen closely to the original here and you can tell that Edward was cramming right-hand tapped notes into this space faster than Satsuma did and therefore exists it in time to hang a bent 1/8th note at the end of the line which the echo is increased for so that it extends over the next passage. Edward is already playing as the echoed note rings out. Satsuma knew he was scratching / had to search for the beat to claw his way out of the rest of the passage at this point. Edward plays over the end of this section freely but Satsuma has cornered himself by missing the transition into the tapping section by a triplet (take every 1/4 note and replace them with 3 note divisions and you get a triplet, instead of 1 2 3 4 do 1, 2, 3 | 1, 2, 3 | 1, 2, 3 | 1, 2, 3 for a total of 12 in the space of the original 4). He catches one of the 1/16th notes through the remainder of the last passage but it is Yoyoka who covers for the remaining 2x 1/16ths notes (ie 1/8 note) by pushing forward (adding) an 1/8th for him. It's a very intricate timing and, again, I do not fault him for choosing to not play it with enough echo - because hearing the feedback of the echo makes it even more difficult to play precisely not only for the guitarist but the rest of the band. Hope this helps.
Wow!!
The recovery from the little flub in the odd -time section was nearly as impressive as the cover itself! Great bit of improv to pull everything back together so neatly!
WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW...EDDIE WOULD BE HAPPY TO HEAR THIS
Eddie is totally looking down with a smile. Good stuff! HappyBirthday!!!
Yoyoka still de best
Satsuma in da house!
This actually made me cry, absolutely loved it. I read from someone the Rock and Roll hasn't died, it's living in Japan!!!
Pretty much. There is such a strong wave of Rock/Metal coming from Japan atm it's crazy.
