🥁Drummer Yoyoka’s Profile🥁
Born in October 2009, she started playing drums at the age of two, played live at four, and formed her family band "Kaneaiyoyoka" at five. At 6 years old, she even released her first CD while in kindergarten.
In addition to drums, Yoyoka sings vocals, plays the piano and is a songwriter. In 2018, at the age of 8, she became the youngest weekly champion in the under-18 category of the international female drummer contest "Hit Like A Girl".
Her application video, a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Good Times Bad Times" was featured on NBC, NPR, in Rolling Stone Magazine and in Billboard and then spread all over the world.
Her drumming prowess has been praised by music legends such as Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Sheryl Crow, Gene Simmons and Eric Singer (KISS), Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), Hayley Williams (Paramore), Sass Jordan, Tony Royster Jr., Brad Wilk (Rage Against the Machine) , Derrick McKenzie (Jamiroquai).
At the age of eight, Yoyoka appeared in Japan's famous rock festival "RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL in EZO" as the youngest performer ever and made a surprise appearance on the stage of Fall Out Boy in "Summer Sonic Tokyo" in front of an audience of 20,000. Later, she was the guest drummer for two songs of Cyndi Lauper’s performance at Tokyo Orchard Hall, the last day of her Japan tour.
Yoyoka is endorsed by world-class brands such as Nike, Moncler, and UNIQLO, filming well-received commercials in Thailand and New York. At the age of eight, she became the youngest drummer ever to sign an endorsement contract with drum makers Pearl and VIC FIRTH, and has since then also signed with Zildjian, CYMPAD and DW.
She made two appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in LA in January and May 2019 where she was praised by Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters, and later on had a successful live house at the legendary "Whisky A Go Go".
In April 2019, she was selected as one of Newsweek Japan’s "100 Japanese people respected by the world", the youngest in history.
Pearl showcased her talent the 2020 NAMM show in Anaheim the world’s largest musical instruments trade show. She was the youngest female and only Japanese drummer to appear.
The impact of "Yoyoka" continues to spread worldwide. Her favorite drummers are John Henry Bonham, Chris Coleman, Nate Smith, Chad Smith and David Grohl. Her dream is to travel and play sessions with people all over the world. She is also hoping to preform in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

Amen. Watching this kiddo smile when she nails it reminds me of the first time I played deep purple machine head way back when I was ten years old.
Let it dawn on you that most famous musicians don't really want to hang out with each other because they annoy each other in a lot of ways and for a lot of reasons. But, all of them want to hang out with Yoyoka. The coolest person on earth is an 11 year old Japanese girl. Fact.

いま50代後半のおっさんですが12歳の時、いとこから借りた山肌に5人の顔が彫られたアルバムを聴いて衝撃を受けたきりそのまま大人になっちゃいましたが、今日その時と同じ衝撃に再度見舞われています。

purpleの演奏を生で聴いて、その後にLOUDNESSが第4期でカバーしていたんです。重さと太さ、そして疾走感を兼ね備えた正にspeed king。よよかちゃん、ありがとう！おじさんは嬉しいです涙

凄い感性に驚くばかり。剛柔、パワー、スピード、演奏テクニックは今までのカバー演奏で実証済ですが改めて曲の捉え方と表現の仕方、これらはテクニックとは別の 音楽的センスが必要。この演奏はその全てを魅せている。ロックドラマーとしてほぼ完成の域に達しているのではないでしょうか。私は4年前に Yoyoka さんの動画に出会いロックと向き合うようになったのですがこの4年間で音楽はジャンルを問わず本質は全て同じということを気付かされました。
よよかさんのチョイスを私は有難く追いかけていくだけですが、最終的にはジャズジャイアンツの頂を目指して欲しいです。
特に1960年代のマイルスデイビスクインテット時代のトニーウィリアムス。ライブ盤フォアアンドモアにおけるトニーの演奏は歴代名ドラマーの中でも頂点でしょう。よよかさんならあの高みに近づくことができると信じています。

@@sho1020さん 話が合いそうですね、私は60年前14歳の時に【真夏の世のJAZZ 】と言うニューポートジャスフィスティバルの記録映画を兄貴に連れられて観て以来 JAZZ の虜になりましたが中学高校と話の合う友人もなく大学時代から仲間とライブを楽しむ生活を最近まで続けていました、モータウンが主流になりかけの頃です、その映画は今でもDＶＤで楽しんでいます。マイルスはキヤノンボールと58年にレコーディングした SOMETHIN`ELSE で演奏した 枯葉 は50年代以降の最高のJAZZ演奏の1曲と思っています、特にマイルの音楽的感性は右に出るものがいないだろうとさえ思う程でした。当時の BLUE NOTE レーベルのCDは殆ど揃えたのですがそのサムシングエルスだけはファーストプレスのレコードを必死に探して手に入れたほどです。しかし60年代後半以降のマイルスのジャズにはついていけなくなりました。4年前にYOU TUBE で Yoyoka さんがロックを実に楽しそうに演奏している姿を見て一発でやられしまいました、それ以来のファンですが昨年1月の東京ライブを最前列で観ることが出来て大変感動しました。まさか70歳でロックを聴くとは夢にも思っていませんでしたが今では彼女の演奏ならどんなジャンルでも楽しく聴くことが出来ます。ちなみにその映画でチコハミルトンが BLUE SANDS と言う曲を叩いていますが最高のドラミングです。you tube に有りましたので聴いてください、マイルスとキヤノンボールの枯葉もありますね。

分かります。特に若い方でスティック回す方多いですよね。よよかちゃんはそう言う余計な事をしない所も好きです。
彼女の素晴らしい所は、カバーしたオリジナルのプレイヤーを再評価してくれることです。

Many great rock drummers passed away, most of them too early, but their souls reincarnated in this small girl.
The technique is their, no doubt, but you can see great technical young drummers on UA-cam (not this young though...), however, they don't possess the feel and enthusiastic and look so at ease behind the drums like she does.

I’m 66, not a drummer, but I want to be her when I grow up.
Same here. 63 and I am looking at a set of cheap roto toms for fun.
When I was in my teens I fooled around on trap sets. I could handle a basic rhythm. I play a lot of other things, mainly keys, and my experience is broad enough to understand most of what I’m hearing.. She has a natural ease to her playing which I just don’t see elsewhere. She’s so inside what she’s doing, and her joy is obviously in the playing, not in the posturing. I’ve seen other prodigies; there are plenty of amazing ones, but they’re great for their age. She’s great, Period, no qualifier. She doesn’t concentrate on flash. She has an amazing feel for the pocket. She’s just so fundamentally good. People wonder if she’s the next John Bonham. No, I think she’s the next Steve Gadd. That’s not a normal thing to think about a young player, but she isn’t a normal young player. She isn’t a normal prodigy. She’s just a really good, mature, tasteful, competent, musically aware musician who weirdly happens to be barely eleven years old.
I am a little younger than you...I am a drummer...and I also want to be her when I grow up...

川口千里さんは手数女王と呼ばれますが、ヨヨカちゃんはストロークスピード女王です。連打でスティックがあれほど高く跳ね上がる女性ドラマーは見たことありません。特にラストが凄い！若き天才ドラマー、トニーウィリアムスもとても高く跳ねていました！輪郭の明快な音も似てます！
スティックを打つよりも引く方を意識しているといってましたね。
まだよよかちゃんは小学生とはいえ、彼女が大人になってもハードロック系はやっぱり女性では負けるかな。コージーパウエルとかカーマインアピスとかボンゾとか、体が違うもんね。

I love Yoyoka and have watched over 90 of her videos. She's wonderful and an awesome talent. Already a force to be reckoned with. In regards to your comment though about busting skins. Check out JUNNA. Another little Japanese Drummer Girl (about 23 yrs old - looks 13). Yoyoka hits hard, but OMG, JUNNA beats the drums like they owe her money! Her skins actually look like they're going to bust any minute. Most animated, powerful and entertaining drummer I've ever seen. And that's a lot to say because Yoyoka is right there with her. My two favorites!
I don't know how many times I can say I love this kid, but I love this kid! Another masterful performance by the now notorious Yoyoka Soma. She brings a smile to my face every time.
