47 years ago, when I was 13, this piece was my first real introduction to classical music and blew the world open. I never looked back. All hail JSB, and thank you for this superb performance.
When I was nine my mother handed me a box and a book and told me to learn to play. My church had a vacancy in their recorder consort. I now realize how very much I didn't know, and how must I want to learn some 50 years later. You are a true inspiration and a magical musician ❤
This is possibly the coolest UA-cam channel - such an inspiring devotion to an underrated instrument along with an amazing interpretation of Bach. Perfection on so many levels.
This is so deeply meaningful to me you have no idea. I literally can't even rn (will try to explain later) so in this moment I'll just say "love that cadenza James!" with my eyes shining tears full of joy and pain and compassion for this insane world your friend in music always -- Andrea
I've listened to, adored, loved and more or less breathed Bach since I was 7, now I'm 51. I've experienced euphoria with his music so many, many times. But I have never cried. When listening to this I did. Didn't even know I could react like that. Absolutely wonderful in all possible ways. Perfection! And the sonoric universe of the recorder has never sounded better. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Whoever you are, Maestro, you are incredible!! Your time to coordinate all these parts with other parts, practicing time, editing time, …. Unmeasurable efforts inputting to accomplish one piece. Each program you presents in this UA-cam brings me respect to the highest musicianship. Thank you for your dedication to bring joy into this complicated world.
I’m not sure if this is digital reverb or a really nice room, but it is a perfect setting for this group of instruments at this tempo. The pre-delay creates this beautiful cascading effect on the melodic movement. Expertly played as well…impeccable!
Absolutely Superb. Perfect tempo, perfect execution, perfect reverb, perfec surround distribution. I can finally hear every single line as clearly as if its was playing solo. Thank you so much for this. I'm sharing it with all my friends and family to educate them. I wonder what Bach would say if he could hear this. Looking forward to more concertos transcriptions. I just have ine request since you are using software to blend each track, could you release a version where you ramp the counter bass volume a little higher? Thanks again for this and please keep them coming!
It seems amazing that this works without a keyboard providing the chords of the continuo. I guess the contrapuntal quality carries the music just fine without chords? Or maybe you've skillfully worked them in to your arrangement? Another outstanding arrangement and performance.
I listened again today and totally enjoyed it again, however I think that the performance might benefit from the addition on a continuo. Just a thought.
If Joseph II thought Mozart used a lot of notes - I wonder what he would've said about Bach?! (Firstly, I know Joseph II never said it, secondly, I think both Mozart and Bach use exactly the right amount of notes.)
James, you've outdone yourself yet again with this remarkably unified and brilliant arrangement and performance. And amazing audio and video production as well. I have a question: did you use circular breathing for that alto solo near the end?
In this world of sordid and twisted values (if any values at all), it is a delightful pleasure to see youngsters fully involved in decent national patriotic dance routines performed with obvious pride. 😊🙂😄 Col, NZ

Really terrific. Virtuosic. So professional. The articulation, even the CB, so flawless. Bravo. Thank you for again an inspirational performance.
Wonderful! I could hear Bach for hours without getting tired.
Same!!! ❤

May Gavrilov one day hear this, read my comment, and nod his sage assent... 💡🎵⚡️✨️
Top music. Top musicianship . I am certain JSB would say bravo. I sure do!

How right you are! Besides the musicianship the technicality of putting all these together is also amazing.

Amazing - you must have someone behind the wall running the bellows for that cadenza. :) Incredible playing!

Best channel on the Choob.

Thanks, Franklin! Yes I used circular breathing to help with the passagework.
Are these guys all twins

You are a baroque orchestra. I hope a violinist will do what you have done with the recorder and become a string orchestra.
It wouldn’t be the same at all.
there are versions of this piece for violin and string orchestra if that's what your'e after
