Ringrazio UA-cam per la traduzione vocale per chi non conosce l'inglese. Un saluto a te RICHARD, dal norditalia, stai facendo un buon lavoro complimenti 👍 👍
I’ve enjoyed this year following your journey. Loving the exciting changes you’re making to the 3 acres. Looking forward to 2025. Thank you. Happy New Year
Make sure you hammer the pins in and also put some in the middle areas as the wind will enjoy getting underneath and making kites ! I’m a landscaper who has laid hundreds of meters of this cloth on sloped banks. The more pins the better 👍
Hi Richard, I very much enjoy your channel - lots of good progress since you first started. Also love how you are learning as you go. From the crazy lifting of the cast iron stove to the outdoor shower (I could use one of those). Enjoy riding the wave where it takes you. Happy New Year Stacey from California
If you like to make garden life 200% easier, get a dual handle bar and proper harness for that strimmer/brushcutter! I use both and only use the single loop handle type for a quick line trim in tight places and my arms are ready to fall off after 15 mins, with the proper handles and harness i can manage 3 hours without breaks. Added bonus of far better control of the cutter. Wish you all the best for the new year. :)
Hi Richard, its looking great. Just thinking it would be worth while investing in some large stones to help keep the covers down. The stones can then form part of the garden later.
I love watching your videos and hearing your humour. I have been through many of the same issues myself and I always find laughing and not getting frustrated helps a lot. The land is beautiful. I see your vision.
Hello Richard, I have to say that I am so glad that you decided to do the UA-cam, it has been incredible being able to follow along with everything you have done. It can't be easy to film everything, but you truly have a wonderful way of being able to talk to us like very few other people can. You have done so much in one year considering that you are living in the UK and I can't wait to see how things develop in the new year. I hope that you have a wonderful New Year's with your family and friends and that black flapping fabric is not the only thing that you are able to think about. Safe travels and Happy New Year.❤️
The neighbour was saying that the olive tree is sick and the olives have been attacked by the worm, then he said that you should do something about the land ( not clear I will listen again later ) he would help but his tractor is broken, and the other olive tree to which he pointed apparently has the same problem…😊
Yep that’s what he said. I understood vento not verme but basically the tree is sickly. He also said the olives are small hence why he suggested you prune the tree as you wrote in your description. I prune mine every two years. Best time is right after the olives have been harvested or have dropped. Try to prune the branches that are pointing inwards or brushing against each other. The wind needs to flow easily through the branches to discoursge pests and rubbing of branches against each other can cause olive knot due to the exposed bark.
L’ha fregato il vento/verme?…the Wind/or worm ruined it..anche quella pianta lì conviene levarlo..you’d be better off taking up/uprooting /getting rid of that plant over there
Your neighbour said that your olive tree is sick and that you should prune it. We prune our trees in Jan./Feb. even later but not before, if you want to harvest them for the oil don't prune all of them in the same year because the year you prune them you won't get any olives. We prune them them every other year. The farmers always used to plough under the olive trees but now they don't advise it anymore but to keep the grass cut so that you don't ruin the roots and the grass helps to keep the moist in during the summer months when it doesn't rain.
Richard, a big compliment for your by now great video skills, apart from my admiration for your work and beautifying your little paradise! Also it is a joy to see your love and proudness about your beautiful daughters. I wish I would have had a dad like that, it gives those young people such strong support to tackle live and career! Your landscaping and drainage project, I find very smart and well executed. It has lots of appeal and will increase the value of your estate tremendously, also I don’t see why you ever would want to put this hide away ever for sale!😄 I wish you and your family the very best and good health, a very Happy New Year from AB, 🇨🇦
Richard been watching since your first video so happy for you may you be richly blessed in 2025, also start thinking about what you would like your home..
The place is going to be every bit as wonderful as you're envisioning. In the end that ground covering will just be a small side note to the story. Sleep well remembering that. Have a happy new year!
Richard you have worked so hard on your house this year and so many improvements I think your coverings will make it through winter and storms Hope you and your family had a great Christmas Prayers for safe travels Happy New Years and see you in 2025 with new videos ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Enjoyed this video Richard, always do. Looking forward to see how the renovation continues next year. Hope you have had a great Christmas and happy new year! The black sheeting will do a great job of keeping the weeds down……wherever it is it all gets blown away to! 🤣
Next spring when you start planting trees and shrubs…buy some compost and add it to your planting hole, remembering not to plant too deep! That said , I so enjoy watching your progress….cant wait for more!
That dog is magnificent! Love all your videos and love what you are building for yourself and your two girls. But the dog made me comment on one of your videos for the first time. Happy New Year and thanks for the inspiration you are providing!
Genets are a very old species of cat like creatures and came from Africa over 1,000yrs ago. They are generally solitary and can live up to 20years. Because they are quite rare, some municipalities encourage reported sightings to document their presence. They're not aggressive. If you see one, it's considered good luck. You're privileged! Safe trip home. Love your videos. Rest and relax. See you next year!
Apparently they're very rare, in fact I'd say that is more likely it was a Feral Cat not a Genet. As long as there's no plans to set a barn with hens or pigeons, there will be no problem with those little wild animals around, they can be good help to control rodents.
Congratulations on starting to feel and recognize the now compounding effects of all your 2024 efforts. Happy New Year, may 2025 be the best yet for you and yours. Thank you for taking us all along with you.
Safe travels back home and yes see you next year. Thank you so much for the entertainment and your work gave me inspiration to work on my own home and future endeavors. You always make me have a better day!
Love the channel Richard… Would be great if you could include dates on the videos so we can gauge what the weather is like for certain times of the year. Cheers.
Hope you had a good Christmas, and best wishes for the new year. The bonus of doing youtube I guess, you get someone from all walks of life sharing a little gem of knowledge. I'll often have a skim through the comments to see if people have shared something useful.
Happy new year Rich. We enjoy watching your vids. We travel through Le Marche(gorgeous area) stopped in Fermo and St. Benedetto del Toronto, on way to Abruzzo region most years for August and the feasts. Interesting to see you travel through Germany, we've always gone via the Simplon or Great St. Bernard passes.
Well done, you have achieved a fantastic amount of work in a year. Next year hopefully you can keep us entertained with more improvements. I would definitely invest in long handled tools as it will save your back an awful lot of stress and if you can afford it get a two wheeled barrow. Happy New Year to you.
Richard, you have grown this year 👍. We have followed you on the journey and it has been great. Don't take down the balcony, you need it - save the balcony. We hope you have a really good New Year's weekend. It will be a wonderful journey in 2025. You could have put dirt on the canvas. We look forward to 2025. Happy New Year from Sweden 🇸🇪
Thank you so much Richard we have been with you from the start, you do realize we are going to wake up to wonder, is that fabric flying up into those trees up the back of your house 😂😂 I would send the wife out to keep a eye on it but her broom stick has broken 😜 hope you had a great Christmas you certainly deserve a cracking New Year 2025 we will be with you again on your adventures next year . Thank you for your time and effort in sharing your experiences with us around the globe . Kind Regards Clive UK
The farmer said the worm has got the olives, they are small and the tree is sick. The other tree is also at risk because the land needs clearing but he has already finished his land. he advises you do something soon and you need to prune the trees.Clear under the tree and burn all the infected olives.
Thank you so much for doing what we all dream of doing one day. It will always be difficult when you’re doing everything on your todd. Happy Newyear and looking forward to 2025
20:30 no need to apologize, filming everything is a work of it’s own. When you are doing “boring” stuff like strimming or doing the geotextile the 3rd time, it could be a good option to timelapse (or just speed up afterwards) from a more overlooking POV. Nice progress again and I can fully ujderstand how hard it must be to have to leave.
Well, if nothing else my friend, you are certainly a grafter ! Here's hoping you have a great New Year, and the banks are all still there when you get back... Looked good in the final shots !
Hi Richard. Thank you for your program. Great job! Hint: We find it helpful to make BIG DENTS(moulds) under the matting and as we go to put the mat over the top then immediately place a concrete block/large rock on top. We found pegs alone didn't hold. The moulded ground prevents the rocks from ever slipping, even in high winds we get here in Oatlands Tasmania/Australia. Love your program. And please, visit here when you are in Aus! Lara and Michael
Hey Rich!! roller coaster??? fun flyin' down ,drag on the slog goin' up, BUT thanks for the chance to come for the ride . AWESOME little journey you let us share with you. What progress, you should be proud. Can't wait for 2025 and the next part of the journey. WOW! Cheers loved it
In the open countryside then you shouldn't have problems with seeding, but if you want to limit the erosion of sloping sections consider Hydroseeding. Happy Holidays
Richard, if those 2 trees have solid wood that will provide a support structure for 19-20 years you could grow several climbers up over them to act as replacement foliage. Wisteria would be great if they grow ok in the area. Vigorous clematis species, rambling rose cvs, hops, Campsis radicans (perfectly hardy to -25⁰C in free-draining soils), Actinidia sp (Chinese Gooseberry or 'Kiwi Fruit') and plenty of others. You could replant trees infront/behind and as they fill the space you could gard prune and retrain the climbers. Just a thought for the mix 👍😊 Oh! and don't forget you could start propagating shrubs/perennials to save money - many are surprisingly easy to do 👍
Three acres to whip into shape is hard work. It never seems to end. The real difficulty with successfully establishing plants/trees on your new terraces, is the soil type. Clay is like concrete and not ideal. Best to ask the nursery for the best native species to put in that suit your area, conditions and soil type. Making your plant selection based on what looks pretty, is perhaps not the best strategy as with the wrong species, you'll likely have a drainage problem around the root balls which may cause rotting. Btw I think you did a great job of understanding your neighbour and if you can have a conversation in Italian with him, then you're going great guns for someone who doesn't live in Italy full time. I don't think you need anyone to translate for you and the more opportunities you have tp practice speaking the language, obviously the easier and more pleasurable life is. Have a great 2025.
You really have gone from rustic to villa, big job. Interesting how that mattered undergrowth area was also the place that had all the metal scrapes thrown into it. You might need a house sitter through the winter to check on the tarps. Someone wiht their own van who are just looking to find a place e to park for a few months.
Hey Richard…. The drone shots really show how far you have come and your hard work has definitely paid off. I hope that black stuff you’re putting down helps with weeds and erosion….. It will be interesting to see your achievements next year. Happy 2025.
I just got back from Puglia on the 9th December and I know what you mean about missing the place. I'm English but I get homesick for Italy when I'm not there. I tried to take a non toll route once I'd reached Northern Italy to the tunnel in Calais. I headed to Basel, then Metz, then towards Brussels and Calais. It was partially successful and I think it will work well, with a little bit of tweaking. I also found a nice two bed apartment in Niederdiegten, Switzerland, with free EV charging. It was very reasonably priced and a good place to take an overnight break. Hopefully I will get a chance to call by next year and help out for a day or two. Best wishes for 2025
😅yep the fabric will be in your neighbour's property within a few weeks 😂 not sure why you are covering the slopes as any vegetation will help to stabilise the area and help with potential wash out from heavy rain. A low cost solution here is to seed with a resilient grass mix ASAP after the batter is formed. Happy winter travel back to UK. GH, ( ACT -AUS).
Hello..those winds look strong. Fabric may just be ripped up abit here n there. I’m sure u’ve secured it down as best as possible. Place have certainly been tidied up a lot👍
If you have a lot of underbrush to clear, it could be worth hiring a chipper, as you'll end up with some good material for mulching for paths/weed suppression/moisture conservation round trees. Plus it breaks down & feeds the soil (& that soil on the terraces looks like it needs all the help it can get...). Treat that fabric as very temporary, else it'll end up with fallen leaves & stuff on top & before you know it, the weeds are growing on top & rooting through.
That black roll for the banks, looks a loot like textile-ish weed control fabric i've used in my garden as well. If it yes, it wont stand up to the weather. I think mine was there for about 2 years, at which point it started to deteriorate and break up. I never covered it up with gravel/wood chips/etc.. and i think that really killed it. Anyways, very nice series Richard. Well done. Happy New Year and my your 2025 be great.
Throw down clover seeds. It will stop the erosion and fix nitrogen into the soil. The landscape fabric isn't going to accomplish anything. I landscaped for years, just a tip to preventing soil erosion on a site quickly.
the landscape fabric looks really good - considering the wind you've got there - and you're right about doubling it up and making it taut to stop the ripples starting from the mountain wind side....we tried using fabric with just weights (don't know where I saw it back then but that's how THEY did it) and no way does that stand up against any wind! (the weights kinda slide over the fabric as the wind whips it around right?) Anyhow, there's no such thing as too many of those landscape "pins" - and, in fact, you can make your own with a heavyish weight wire from the building store (SO cheap! )....Merry Christmas and safe travels!
Before excavating they should have stripped the topsoil, stored it and later spread on top of the geotextile/ benches. I'd suggest also forming a temp bund along top of the first bench to contain water runoff from the field. Top work/effort, keep vids coming.👍
got any metal clothes hangers? cut them and get maybe two or four long anchor hooks....You can never have enough landscape fabric hooks, trust me - bitter experience ))))
It's looking and developing great! And that 'one quiet beer' is of course a 66cl Moretti which saves you a walk to the house for the second one😅🤣! Can't wait to have you back in Italy. 2025 is the year of the revolution! And couldn't you not have one or two outdoor cameras installed to be able to check the walls out?
Hi Richard, Wow😮💨 that’s a lot of hard graft ! Now the land has been tiered, where does the water run off ? I hope it was graded away from the your home ! 🤞 You could use the heavy tree branches, you collected, to put on-top of the weed matting ! I was thinking Richard, if you’re not going to there permanently, could you pay someone, to do the strumming, before your due visit ! At least it gives you time,to work on your home & not kill yourself, before you need to leave ! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas 🎅 🎄 🎉🍷
Great vid Richard. Would some old car tyres help hold the sheets down? All the very best for 2025, health, happiness and great progress with the Three Acres. We’re looking forward to your videos 👍👍👏👏👏
Travel safe! Happy holidays in the UK! All the best wishes for you in 2025 and see you when you get back! Oh and trying to stop thinking about pink elephants results in thinking about pink elephants, you know. 🙃
What a massive job putting down the fabric! I hope it will survive the winter😊
Ringrazio UA-cam per la traduzione vocale per chi non conosce l'inglese. Un saluto a te RICHARD, dal norditalia, stai facendo un buon lavoro complimenti 👍 👍

Happy New Year Richard Raising a glass of Amarone to you for all the enjoyment of your progress and more for 2025
It is so obvious that you love the place; love doing the hard yakka, and are enjoying the actual journey. Thank you for inviting us along!
Make sure you hammer the pins in and also put some in the middle areas as the wind will enjoy getting underneath and making kites ! I’m a landscaper who has laid hundreds of meters of this cloth on sloped banks. The more pins the better 👍
You got to make the animal noise again 😂😂 love it
Hi another great video. All the best for the New Year. Tony ………Romiley
Happy new year to you and family. I look forward to your videos and thoroughly enjoy them. Bravo
Hi Richard, I very much enjoy your channel - lots of good progress since you first started. Also love how you are learning as you go. From the crazy lifting of the cast iron stove to the outdoor shower (I could use one of those). Enjoy riding the wave where it takes you.
Happy New Year
Stacey from California
Hard work taking care of the land
Hope it all works out for you
Happy New Year
I am seeing on Tik Toc an app with ear piece that translates languages immediately as you hear it. Very lovey property
Thanks!

Thank you for a most amazing year of escapism from the world around us, Happy 2025.
I'm watching this after seeing the winter storm slam Abruzzo. I'm hoping this held up.😮

Yes, a bit like the artist Cristo with the cloth being a bit Banksy too.
The paw prints could also be badgers. You'd know if boars had visited because the ground is all churned up.
Great video, heres hoping 2025 will be even better for you richard ❤
the landscape fabric looks really good - considering the wind you've got there - and you're right about doubling it up and making it taut to stop the ripples starting from the mountain wind side....we tried using fabric with just weights (don't know where I saw it back then but that's how THEY did it) and no way does that stand up against any wind! (the weights kinda slide over the fabric as the wind whips it around right?) Anyhow, there's no such thing as too many of those landscape "pins" - and, in fact, you can make your own with a heavyish weight wire from the building store (SO cheap! )....Merry Christmas and safe travels!
The gaiters are a good idea
He brought the second one, it's out of view of the camera🍻
Great year. Congratulations! Happy New year for 2025.🎉
Hi Richard, Wow😮💨 that’s a lot of hard graft ! Now the land has been tiered, where does the water run off ? I hope it was graded away from the your home ! 🤞
You could use the heavy tree branches, you collected, to put on-top of the weed matting !
The view IS amazing 😍 you've done lots since you began. btw ask Reolink to sponsor you for a surveillance camera that you can access in UK.
Kobe! 😍
