It is a great car indeed, I drive Gregory's (he is my son) car now and then. So, he has got the Alfa-virus too. Both our sons received (after graduation for their drivers-license) an Alfa Romeo from me. Every petrol-head should have had an Alfa. Well, Greg was hooked to the Alfa brand at once, the other son felt for the Germans. I had the 155 and 164 Busso and many other Alfas in the old days. Now, I am aiming for a 166 3.2 Busso again. Wow, what a car!
Great job sir 😁
Gay job sir.
And that's a proper education!! :) Congrats to You and Your family :)
German cars are over-hyped. I have owned Porsche 911, BMW and VW - I have owned Alfa Romeo, Abarth and Fiat I found Italians better and, believe it or not, more reliable. My dream car being an Alfa Giulietta ca1960
@@sunerustrup3494 Good choice !
I've owned the 146, 156, 166, 147 and 159.. Still the 166 is my alltime favorite. It will make you look back after parking and fall in love with it
I had the Alfa Sud QV, 33, Gulietta(old one), 164, 156, 166 3.0 v6 6 gear busso. And that car is my favorite as well. Although is followed short by my Sud QV! Loved that car as well. By the 166 is just epic car. Quit, smooth engine...from 1000 to 7000 rpm...it likes it all!
@@karlos1060i only have a gtv6 2.5 and i love that car so much
Is such a pleasant exhaust sound as in the video available with an automatic transmission?
@@oneunitone The 3.0 24V was also offered as an automatic, so yes you can make it sound like the one in the video.
one of the most beautiful v6 I've ever seen
vabbè detto da un italiano… no dai sono d’accordo con te
Ti sei scordato il MOST prima di beautiful 🥲
@@enrico6218 pazzo è vero
Restyle is even better 🙂
I see a lot of design copies from the quattroporte.
The 6 people who disliked the video do not have a heart! The horn is amazing.
Haters gonna hate!
Do u know the timestamp of the horn? :D
@@dennisvandesteeg615 It starts somewhere at 10:50
@@mirnuja1 lol 😂 ty
@@dennisvandesteeg615 I must be missing something here, lol :)
Giuseppe Busso loved this engine to death
And I really mean it. What an amazing contribution he made to the automotive world
Ciao giancārlœ!
CIAO GIANCARLOO ahahah mi hai fatto morire, grande ti seguo sempre dall'Italia!
D'ora in poi il saluto tra noi alfisti sarà "ciao giancarlo!"
🤣
German car: Horn button is hard to press, seems like germans don’t horn to others
Italian car: Ciao Giancarlo!
i own an alfa Romeo 166, a redesign 2.4jtd 175 horsepower mapped to approx 208 horsepower. God how that car flies, and even though it's diesel it has a beautiful sound.
I love reviews of older cars that have been maintaned so well! Keep these videos coming guys!
6:35 There was a 2.0 4 cylinder Twin Spark. Then there was the 2.0 v6 turbo but not in many countrys. It was especially made because of the italian tax system. After that came the N/A 2.5, 3.0 and 3.2 v6 engines.
Rust like hell especially the floor?? Where did you get that from, the 166 is a Alfa that doesn't rust at all.
Yep. 156 is the model that rust like crazy but 166 is very different from that.
He was waaay off on that...
I can confirm that the 166 doesn’t rust like its german competitors do😂
You are right, he probably mistakes it with a 156.
Great to see this sort of classic car as well as all the supercars etc. How to make an engine look good under the bonnet, no need for carbon fibre.
I'm driving my 166 (2004) since 2 years now. Best car ever. Nice video!
I will struggle greatly when handing in my Giulietta and deciding for another Alfa. This has gotten on the ever growing list. Very nice and special design.
GTV 3.0 go for it, you'll love it.
Greate video, thanks. I'm so pleased to watch someone else enjoying the 166. I have a 2001 3.0 Super manual and it makes me smile every time I drive it.
Around 2000's : Let's put in a V6!
Around 2021 : Lets cut it in half and only have 3 cylinders
😞😞
Loving these older viewer cars, keep it up guys!
It is said that Giuseppe Busso, although the engine was already ready, remained all night working on the intake ducts to create the sound "tuning" that his V6s have. For this reason the engine is also called "the violin of Arese". RIP Engineer Busso, and thanks to the channel for remembering one of his works 👍
Happy to own V6 166 :) It's quite rare car that feels different and special.
Beautiful!! Please more of this kind of older cars (like the Volvo 850 from a couple of days ago!!
Guys, I don't know how available cars like this are to you, and I do wholeheartedly enjoy all your videos but I'd love to see more cars like this.
Very nice, I enjoyed every minute of this video.
I love this Alfa Romeo 3.0 V6, with one of the best V6 engine ever made.
Great sound, fantastic design, Alfa Romeos are so special.
Great video! Great car. Busso’s trick was making an engine look like an engine instead of a Power Rangers torso. No other car for this price has anything so visually impressive under the bonnet and neither do plenty of more expensive, high performance cars. 166 looks amazing in black too with black interior. It’s ageing very well indeed.
Alfa produced some gloriously beautiful car during this time. Unfortunately nothing was marketed to US then, so I'm always happy to watch and hear a video like this one.
I've owned a 145 2.0ts, a 156 2.5 V6 and the 166 3.0 V6, and the three of them were very satisfying
I drive only Alfa’s since 2006 😊
Talk about going down memory lane.. I remember those when I grew up in Italy. Thank you.
I first sat in this car at the dealer back in 1999 when my dad was picking up his new 156. That digital screen was amazing back then lol
What a happy car. Driving a pretty car like that on a beautiful sunny day is such a happy occasion, its such a shame that the EU is moving towards banning cars and driving all together. I guess us car guys must immigrate to the USA if we wish to enjoy our hobby in the future.
Already miss the old Alfa badge! Impressive engine and still quick! Cool to see thevariety on your channel
I wish these were RWD..
was about to write this to the word
The platform wich is shared with the Lancia K was designed to accomodate the components for a rwd version, driveshaft, differential, halfshaft but is was scratched off for spending reviews. Pity.
I had one just like this, a 1999 silver 3.0 Super, loved it. Everything broke on it, still loved it.
Feels like the Busso wasn’t done yet in terms of top speed, one more gear to go... I’ve had the 3.2 version and that would run outside of the speedo, so past 260 km/h, by a fair bit. Really surprising performance from a luxury sedan.
It's most beautiful car in the world 😍. The best sound. My dream
OMG
LMAO! 🤣 🤣 🤣
Maybe in comparison, you should give the Alfa Romeo GTV 3.2 V6 24V a try. At that time it was a beast. The same engine was also used in the Lancia Thesis. Both were beasts of their own kind at the time.
I had the Lancia Thesis, well i still have it but now i’m using a Stelvio. Thesis was just incredible at high speeds, you could simply go at 170/180kmh while doing 14 km/l. What a machine. (I have the 2.4 multijet 175hp)
@@TheLOL4DUDE is the 2.4 good fun engine?
@@doddsalfa It's a good engine but the car is very heavy so apart from highway, you will not have a fun
@@TheLOL4DUDE ok this is very helpful because I want to import Alfa to were I live ,but it must be fun car to drive
@@TheLOL4DUDE The 2.4 Multijet was/is a beast! I agree with you. Kickdown in a Thesis is something I really miss!
Italian power ❤️
Proud of myself of being Italian 🇮🇹
I owned the facelift with the 5 zylinder Diesel this car Was amazing! Super fast smooth and Low in fuel consumption! Best car i had... And i owned 9 cars
Beautiful car, already a bit in love from this driving🤤
Beautiful car, I do miss my 166. I had 190k when I sold it, and it was still smooth and silky.
The thing when you drive older cars is you feel connected to it. There's far more mechanical connections into the steering
This thing is a masterpiece
Love the car, and as much as I love the POV style of your videos I think that they would benefit a lot from having some regular B roll footage of the car at the beginning while you talk about it. That Gopro really distorts the image and the car.
Alfa Romeo 166 is super car and sound is perfect!!!
we need more like this :D
Alfa Romeo really an Italian beauty. I do hope Alfa Romeo able to beat German rivals. It’s actually have a huge potential.
learn english grammar my eyes are bleeding
@@mcw280 go cry its not that bad..
Huge potential for what? Rusting and failing? Definitely. Also, it's not a competition: the German car performance industry is a LOT bigger than Alfa itself. Don't delude yourself ;)
@@Daumex still waiting for that rusty and faily Giulia but sadly for you these cars run great. Wake up from the 70s Alfas problems are not the cars themself and most of the time never were. Alfa ist that much not of a competition that BMW put all their technicians together with the new M3, just to be a bit faster on track and they used the same braking system as the Alfa, yes the germans clearly dont consider Alfa as a competitor🤦♂️
@@Daumex Giulia GTAm...where is your german M3, C63 amg now...and yes talking about the seize of mighty German industry, that can't beat a poor alfa.
Very nice car!
Please do a video on a w202 C36 AMG...
*CIAO GIANCARLO!*
Dang, I need that horn in my Alfa now...
Greetings from Italy!
haha this car and Peugeout 406 coupe were my dream cars in those days ..Actually 406 Coupe still is :D the interior , seat , door design was so beautiful .
i had one of these , beautiful car to own
Had a 1998 V6 2.5L, adored it, if you feel down just open the hood and smile !
Ho una 2.4 jtd e ad essere sincero questa alfa romeo ti regala emozioni che le auto di oggi non riescono a trasmetterti. La amo e spero che non mi abbandoni dopo 19 anni.
The 2 liter naturally aspirated Twin Spark was a 4 cylinder 16 valves, not a V6. It was built in the Pratola Serra plant, southern Italy. The 2.0 turbo was a V6 Busso turbocharged. The horn doesn't seem stock, I've never heard that trumpet in Alfa 166
Ciao Giancarlo😂
Great Busso 👍
My previous dream car
FORZA ITALIA🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 PUROSANGUE MEDITERRANEO!!!🤘🤘🤘
I imported the 166 2.0 v6 tb a few months ago. the last owner wanted to do some things but not finisht it. now almost done with putting everything back together. when it's done and I have done a few test drives, you can take it for a run. I think you gonna like this one to :)
nice i know 2.0 tb is pain i as s to work on
Alfa Romeo 166
Stile e potenza ITALIANA
Great Car, the rust was never that bad, it is only a problem over 15 years of age. Alfa Romeo make great Cars and having owned several different models they are also very reliable too. But most of all they bring a smile to your face..
Alfa boxer and busso best sounding cars from italy 😀
Great video. With less petrol engines being created now, if any, it will be the all time best sounding engine. Signore Busso. Genius 😀
The 164 was build until June 1997. The 166 was introduced in Fall 1998.
Fantástica. Maravilhosa mackina
Makes me long for my old 164 :)
Hermosos autos los alfas !!! Tengo un 145 definitivamente bello rápido moderno .. supremo
More vids like this!
I have an 05 156 SW and getting certain parts for that is hard enough. In Australia the 166 is quite rare and I imagine parts again, will be hard to find. It's a shame, I love these cars.
Con quel "Ciao Giancarlo" non si capisce se ci state prendendo per il culo o se cercate di imitare noi italiani XD
Greetings from Italy! In my opinion, this is one of the best channel on YT, and you are very funny, so keep going!
The 3.2 Busso in the 156/147 GTA’s were different from the 3.2 Busso in the GTV, GT, and 166. The 3.2’s in the GTA cars had slightly different cam profiles, higher compression ratio, and different fuel maps for 250 HP, and slightly more torque, but the most important difference was that the GTA engines were hand assembled in the Maserati engine plant.
no, no es asi son iguales, en banco dan la misma potencia ,la version gta es publicidad.
Very nice to get some of these real life classics, so sick and tired of contemporary super cars.
Bro u good? Saw the Hitman in the back
Beautiful
Cool car 😎
I absolutely need to get that horn on my GT. Where can you get it?!
Imagine if this car was RWD? Still epic epic car.
Looking online right now to buy one of these masterpieces. Put a Busso in your life
Real Italian horn, bellissimo forza Italia..!!!
I had a 3.0 164, and for me the styling of the front on the 166 was a big disapointment soI went with a V6 156 with sportpack instead when it was time for replacement.
Are you sure the 166 rusts? Its siter car, the Lancia Kappa is pretty solid.
Speaking of sister car, the 166 is based on the Kappa, which itself is based on the old Type Four platform. It's basically a restyled 164.
You can check autorobot specs for crash repairs.
Yes, it rusts. Same as pretty much everything at this age.
It doesn’t rust that bad. And this is coming from a finn... e39 and w210 are so much worse.
@@otsolampinen5290 you're right, those two are definitely worse. 166 is also much more rare ;)
Haha “ciao Giancarlo” Iam very very Italian fan
So beautiful!
Hatte ich auch, schönes Auto
This car is absolutly timeless!
Not even the superb engine.. Exterieur Design, the front, the mirrors, that wheels...... simply everything looks fantastic😀
you test the fiat coupe 20v turbo or the fiat punto gt
hi where can i get that full list you put up on screen)
Oh my god....the 166 doesn't rust. The 147 and 156 do, but this one doesn't.
If they are driven in Italy, they won't rust cause weather in Italy is warm in winter, not like in Germany or Switzerland and etc.I have 147 from 2006 and it's in perfect condition, except the variator, but i will fix it 🙂🙂
@@lebronnaumoskinn I have two 166s in mint condition for joy rides and I drive them for many years in the Czech Republic, where the winters can be quite strong, especially in the mountains. I take good care of those two ladies and there is no rust even on the undercarriage.
The bigest problem is when you crash those cars....then they rust like hell.
@@lebronnaumoskinn No, rust was never problem of 164 and 166 even in UK. Only Fiat Tipo Alfas used to rust like crazy (155, 156, 145, 146, 147, GT, 916).
the open air filter gets hot air inside the engine and that reduces the power
Mamma mia 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
That engine, the car is beautiful is just the front end the headlights are too small, but it was another time with different aesthetic views.

I think this alfa has gear Links to change my gearbox in alfa 156 is very precise
The horn sounds like that of a miniature steam train.
I drvie 166 with 2.4 jtd 110kw and she is very nice car for driving, avarage fuel consumption is under 6L / 100km and torgue over 300nm is good and car is very quite with sport steering :)) Nice cheap car with great audio !
@@danedez6297 yes, city driving around 7,4 l , country driving 90km/h is only 5 - 5,5 l, its impressive for this great 5 cylinder engine ! 5 cylinder diesel is great ! My record for long distance 100km/h was 3,9 litres, it was crazy :D
