Hard rock fan here: the heavy riff in the second half of this song-the hypnotic rhythm, the building intensity and speed- is flat-out better than the majority of heavy riffs from heavy bands from forever.
This is insane. If I ever saw this song played live I would probably go mad.

I saw them play this also at a Dutch festival funnily enough 2 or 3 years later. Out of desperation, my mates and I had started going up to random Dutch people who looked like they could supply some pills. I had the good fortune to randomly choose this young Dutch guy who told me " It is your lucky day" and he had a load in the boot of his car. I was absolutely off my tits on the best MDMA I had had to that point, I remember I think they played Group 4 as a closer. I had heard the album version and never really paid much attention to it but this live version blew my mind, it was tight and awesome , it was an amazing set that I wont ever forget, the crowd were well up for it as well.
I saw them do this at Brixton Academy years ago, it was fucking manic.

I saw Massive Attack at festival in Holland in the mid 2000s, this was amazing. We had got these amazing pills from this bloke we got talking to. It all got a bit hazy, I lost my mates and I liked Massive Attack before so thought I'd give their live set a try. Honestly, it was amazing, they closed with this and it blew my mind how heavy and energetic it was. Completely unexpected, I don't remember much of that weekend but I definitely remember Group Four vividly..the crowd went wild, but there was space to dance, it was great, one of my favourite live music experiences...

I remember in 1998 or in 1999 live in (normal) Moscow. This number was closing one, the crowd was couple of hundred people only. I’m sure everyone had eye contact with the band.. the number lasted for at least 15 mins. Amazing. I’m 43 and still have shivers. And yes, times, when moskva was a hell of a town…

Nothing like being there live. I was, I currently watching this over ten years later after being there. Live in the front, in the flesh. Don't remember it being like this... Not enough volume in my computer switch to take me back there......

I was lucky enough to see this in Perth on 22 March 2003 (2 days after the Iraq war was declared, a point MA drew considerable attention to). Ours was longer and got even faster towards the end. If you can find it (although it's rare), the Royal Albert Hall version from 1998 is probably the best extant recorded version.

Had never heard this song before I saw them live at a small concert by the beach in Cannes France around 1999/2000. Think they ended with this. It was incredible especially with the extended finale. Amon Tobin was their support act that night and he was also amazing.

It sucks that the Massive Attack albums that came after didn't have these alt-rock touches. I get that they aren't a rock band, but 100th Window and Heligoland kinda fall short of the mark after listening to Mezzanine.
Heligoland was different but that is a brilliant brilliant piece of work in its own right. Even this album was a departure from their early work. That's part of what I love about Massive Attack
I find that all MA albums are different and I adore them all. My most played artist of 2020 by far🔥🔥🔥X

it's Dot Allison in this video, but it;s Liz Fraser on the original Mezzanine album (she also helped write it, but due to pregnancy etc she didnt do too many live gigs)
