- FINALLY, my 45 day PSA submission came back from KK_Sportscards that I sent in February of 2021. At the time, the market was HOT and there was rumor that PSA was going to raise their prices. For just $17 each, I sent some football, basketball, and baseball cards in to be graded with hopes that they would all gem. Today, I am blindly revealing my PSA return for you guys, and as you can imagine, a lot has changed in 15 months. I knew PSA turnaround times would be higher than advertised, but this is excessive! Anyway, I would ask you for luck, but not sure what good that would do me at this point! I hope you enjoy!

I have been having the same issue of when to sell or trade lately. I have several 2017 Mahomes cards (Prizm / Optic and variations) all PSA 10's, I finally got graded this year. They have dropped by 40% or better. Is that going to be the new high mark for his cards, or do you see them coming back in the fall? I feel greedy since they were all pack pulls in 2017, but I would like top dollar to.
I do not see the market ever being what it was during this "spurt" so, if you're waiting for those prices to return, you'll never sell your cards.
Cards were "over graded" & IMO are only going to continue decreasing in value. Esp with the economy & the direction it is heading. Unlike during covid when the hobby was invaded & people had extra $$$$. And EVERYONE that came into the hobby only for $$$$$ sent every card in to be graded.
I think we're entering the "junk graded" Era like the old junk wax Era.
People were grading base cards for God sake.

You've definitely got an eye for grading. I've never seen a submission that size get a gem rate like that.

Amazing to send all those cards even one from a bag of chips and still get 99% PSA 10s that’s crazy!! You definitely have a eye for a quality card! I wish I had that! I’m just a collector but have so many I want to send but stress the dreaded 7 & 8 for a flaw that I’m not able to pick out or centering not good enough! Over 38 years of collecting I’ve never had a card graded! But I also had my collection destroyed in 2017 so it’s been a fresh start since then! Love to see you get a order ready on video and see the process you do!
dude you did one heck of a job looking over your cards before you sent them in. I realize the values are shot now but be proud of your self grading skills!
I’ve been sending cards in since 2003, done pretty well at times, and also sometimes not as well as I’d liked:). But one thing I know is it’s always been about sending cards in that have low pop reports, and never send in a base card unless it is short printed or already of value as raw. Now I am not immune to mistakes, I make them on a daily basis, but people completely ignored this during the pandemic. To think, we all had to wait a year and a half to get our cards back, and now we have to pay crazy amounts, all because of submissions like this. Nothing personal, I really like your content.

true but at the time the rc base were few hundred what hurt is people think they had psa 10 and sent in 6-8 and 90% of the slab cards now worth less then the cost smh

Based off some of the random worthless cards I see on eBay, it makes sense that psa upped their prices. Looked like a lot of people were just dumping on psa hoping it was a get rich quick route. Psa might’ve been smarter to keep their prices where they were and encourage all the submissions. By raising the prices they surely are chopping down on the junk submissions and maybe it will save their pop count to some extent, still a risky move for their business because they are falling on the sword a bit and opening the door for the value graders to get in the market.
That makes no sense if you have a 1/1 who cares if it's 8 9 or 10. A high pop say prizm Luka rookie getting a 10 will make a high pop card low pop.
It's a real eye opener to the flood of people getting cards graded these last 2 years and how a literal sport season length of time can pass to get a return and in that season things can happen to shatter all the hopes and dreams you had of a good investment. I guess this might be where SGC will gain speed as a competitor with quicker returns to flip them card whilst the player is hot.... It's going to be a interesting time in the sport card hobby over the next few years with Panini passing the torch and grading companies battling for supremacy! 😁

Congratulations on getting all 10’s except for one and since I have never sent a card for grading I will send my cards to you before I get them graded, just kidding but I only have about 50 I would even think of grading.

You're gonna laugh at me, but how do you put your cards in your sleeves? I always bend a bottom corner trying to put them in... ruining the card. I then put them in a 55PT toploader because it slides in easier haha.
I so appreciate you still posting this video as a lot of folks are not posting them when their cards are worth less than the fees. People need to know that when everyone and their mom is subbing ultra modern base cards to PSA, that a MASSIVE POP is right around the corner.

I hear you. Unfortunately, people are submitting cards that are already gem mint out of the pack hoping to do a quick flip, not realizing that when the highest population for a card is a 10, the difference in price compared to an ungraded one isn't going to be that phenomenal. All it did was jack up grading fees and give us a ridiculous long time having to wait for the submission to return to us.
PSA returns the card months or even a year after the estimated service days. As a sports card investor, I think AGS is the new wave of card grading. With AI being the wave of the future, AGS has implemented a robot that grades your cards for you with a quick return speed. Furthermore, their robots are unbiased and grade without human emotion and unlike PSA, they have rational and logical prices. I really suggest you try them out as they are the new wave of the future!

Crazy how long it took! I remember you getting it together…I think. Man that was a long time ago. I would love if PSA had 9.5’s. People are drawn to the 10 In my opinion. I hear people toss around the junk slab era…maybe it’s gonna be the junk 10 era and some of those price drops seem to point to that. Just my thought on it. Lol, and I did send a couple cards recently fully intending to sell them. I’m not a fool, I know PSA commands the price and that’s the only reason I sent some to them. Any way, fun video Ian and appreciate all the info you shared on each card.

Never feel bad about 9’s or better! And a good way to think about submitting cards is to always send cards you would want to keep! If you sell them great but if not you add to your win collection and it’s really never a loss! The idea that every card needs to make money now comes from those who have not been in the hobby very long! Enjoy the hobby, and it pay off in the long run!

It's funny what changes in 15 months (crazy wait time!), but great job on the 10's! They all look great slabbed. I've only ever sent 3 cards in to be graded... a PSA10 Brady 1/1, a Walter Payton RC (only got a 5... I think it's a 7 LOL), and a PSA 8 Payton second year card. I've always wanted to do more, but the prices are just too high right now. So for me, watching reviews like this are great, so I can kind of live vicariously through the reveals LOL. Great returns buddy!
Sweet return, PSA is a pretty lax grader from what I’ve recently seen. Another awesome thing you could try is buying GMA 10s and getting them graded by PSA as the conversion rate is 92% from my own submissions. GMA is pretty accurate
15 Months? Damn... PSA is really low hanging fruit now. When I use to be a PSA Fan, I use to send them in 2019 and they would take 3-4 months and I thought that was a lot
In my opinion, PSA is below CGC and BECKETT in terms of quality slabs and they have also fallen bellow CGC in popularity. The verdict is still kind of out on that one though.

I have been annoyed with PSA’s extremely long return times. I have since switched to AGS and they are much faster. Their AI robot grades the cards in a much shorter time than human grading. Besides, their robots are unbiased and grade without human emotion and unlike PSA, they have rational and rational prices. I recommend that you test out their services as they worked for me!

How did you only pay $17 a card. I figure it was some sort of bulk submission but how do you do that? Regular service is $100 per card which is insane! Were the prices really just that much cheaper back then?
It was they increased prices so people would slow down on submissions but it didn’t help and they had to suspend new submissions for a while

I'd hold onto the James Wiseman stuff. He's been working with KG and Hakeem in the off season. Hopefully he evolves his game as good as he speaks multiple foreign languages.
I know I'm a lame because I DO NOT GRADE, I'm old school, cards still have value with being smashed between two pieces of plastic. The good thing about Baseball Cards is they could always go up and fast. I remember Otani dropping like a rock, now his stuff is is blowing off the table. Would you sell me L . Robert Topps Rookie?
You have better luck than I do. I sent off My OJ Simpson Card on June, 14th 1994. Got back a killer rating.
We are in what I consider the drought of football for sales. April- July are the time of the year where football card sales are the lowest.

Yeah... honestly with how big card collecting has become, AI card grading seems to be the future. The current methods seem way too slow and inconsistent for how much submissions there are.
You killed it from a grade perspective. I know I've got some mistakes coming back eventually... but that's what's great about hindsight

So maybe the reason it took so long was because you sent it to another person ? It’s really not hard to submit and you don’t actually know how long it takes them to submit your cards.
Funny how the market was thriving a year or so ago and tons of cards we being sent in and psa decided to take a huge break and and not grade anything. Cost a lot of us some serious coin on 2020 rookies. Glad to see you had a great run of tens there tho
What do you use to check cards before sending.
At no point in time, has PSA grading been $17. I also have an issue with the time frame you're claiming. PSA stopped accepting all cards when you sent those in. Regardless of service level.
Your time frame and your pricing aren't adding up. So, you either know somebody at PSA or this did not happen. There's millions of collectors that were unable to send anything in. It definitely was not $17 either. 50 bucks was the minimum for the longest time and before that it was 15

You did hear him say he submitted through KK_Sportscards, correct? Submission services get priority access to services and often times offer discounts on multi-card submissions. Before they got backlogged, they had pricing in the $20 range per card. So $17/each on a group submission is not impossible. And he had a 9 grade on the final card and said he heavily scrutinized all his cards prior to submission. Saying he is being dishonest to his viewers is at best unfair. At worst, slanderous.

There's just far too many inaccuracies. I do admit, however, I quit watching two cards from the end. On that note, I guess I stand corrected.
PSA had well over a million cards to grade and was shut down for more than a year. I can guarantee you there was no discount anywhere

There is never a delay with the grading, at most taking a month. Besides, AGS has AI that grades the cards without bias and AGS offers legitimate and fair prices. I have always been satisfied by their service.

This is one reason why I would only send in PC cards. If it's a PC card I don't care the grade.
I don't get why you would sell it for $15 if it cost you $17 to grade, just list it for $20 and see what happens.
So just got back my 1st ever PSA sub. 86 MJ rookie. Have had in pc for 30 years. Got a 5. Then went and compared to 5’s online and I am literally shocked. Was expecting 6 for sure likely a 7 and lottery 8. Cost me $300 based on value. Not
Sure how to resolve this internally myself based on all the 5’s I’ve looked at, it’s not even close….. how can this be?? Saw one that even had print bleeding, another with a creased corner…. Can’t really afford to drop another $300 to “try again”….. anyway rant over. Sent RC sticker,2nd 3rd year MJ and objectively what I consider a gem 10 elway RC in same order along with flair Kobe RC row zero and I am now prepped for severe disappointment …. I don’t care what the grades are as long as they are consistent across the board and I am seeing a massive amount of inconsistency. :-( I get everyone thinks they have a 10, but trying to be objective.
Why u collecting daniel jones cards have you seen him play?
I kno it may sound crazy... but u don't lose money, jus patience. cards go up and down because of skill or P.R. situations which can cause effect in their cards interests even if they're not playing . some will be in ur private stash till they go up again
PSA should be held responsible for not providing their services within the time frame you paid for. since the sportscard market changes so often, their number one priority should be punctuality.
Hopefully more card companies become popular so we have better turnarounds.. AI grading companies like AGS seem pretty compelling for how fast and consistent AI is compared to humans.

Great grades all the way, but for all the people saying how good it was to eyeball a 10, these aren't cards from 20 or even 10 years ago. About 99% of what you pull out of a pack now is going to be a 10, as it should be considering the technology that exists. (And this isn't a knock on the creator of the video, just stating a fact, nice video btw 👍🏾)
I agree. I only collected cards from the 60s and 70s and the grades mean something. All the modern stuff is gem mint from the pack in my eyes. A NM-MT 1962 Topps Baseball card with the wood grain sides mean something- a 60 year old card that most kids treated as a plaything (flipping, trading, bicycle spokes, wax stains, bubblegum stains). Grading modern cards, coins, and comics is kind of a waste of resources IMO.

My PSA submitter made me rethink a lot of the junk i was going to send in March 2021. I did end up sending quite a bit of junk, but it could have been worse
Gotta check the pop report if you're sending base. Otherwise keep it short prints
Around October 2020 I subbed 5 cards through an lcs, the biggest lock of the submission was a Zion mosaic, and now it’s by far the cheapest 😕
I was happy about my results (even though it took over a year), but leaving out a shohei was tough

Honestly for how long the turnaround is for psa, AI startups like AGS are looking pretty attractive.
For what it's worth, your situation could have been a lot worse. Imagine using a 3rd party ("Dealer" to PSA) like you did, sending in at a higher tier (each dealer can choose but for example, $10/card expected value below $250 and $30/card expected value below $1,000). Sadly, these dealers' bulk submissions were dumped into one pile at PSA after they closed shop. Imagine paying $30/card and waiting 15+ months. Even worse, after PSA re-opened, imagine sending cards directly to PSA at $50/card and receiving them back within 60 days while those $30 submissions were still in Limbo haha. Imagine repeating this process directly with PSA 3 times....still not having received that $30/card submission through the third party.

I believe he said it was 17$ a card to get graded then you need to add shipping so 20-25 at that time. Now it’s like 50 plus
Ian,if you have Autograph cards you might not get all the 10's you've received on all those cards, just my opinion, nice Trout, watching the Phillies/Angels game right now, Phillies up 7-2 top of the 9th,Trout 0-24 that's probably hurting the value of that card.lol.

the way PSA has manipulated the market, it makes me incredibly nervous to submit anything to them, in fact i wouldnt. go with a cheaper, and more efficient service. PSA is overvalued and overrated. Seeing everyone lose money on their investments because the organiziation held everyones cards for a year is just SAD.
Yeah, personally for me, AI graders like AGS is the future because they seem a lot more consistent and efficient than PSA.
This is why baseball is a literal crapshoot. Every year, there are 10-15 rookies that get real hype and 3-4 years later, only 1 maaaybe 2 are worth something.
With basketball, football and hockey you have much better odds at choosing the "correct rookies" to invest in....

Try to sell these 20 years from now. Everybody will remeber how many 10's PSA were giving out. Years ago, people were cracking PSA's and flipping them over to Beckett. Now they're cracking Beckett's and flipping them over to PSA.
19 months for me and I feel the same way. The values of my cards fell by about half from the time I should have gotten them back. It is what it is I guess

When I sub, they tend to be older Magic the Gathering cards. It blows me away how many cards printed this decade fail to gem. My record on MTG cards isn't great, but I have sent in cards that I knew wouldn't gem. Out of cards that I expect to gem, my average is about .600. In baseball, that'd be a hall of famer and then some, in cards, it isn't that great.
