at the time of this Tube appearance Tinderbox was brand new, (it may have even been unreleased still), Carruthers was new, and people are just paying attention and absorbing it all.
I was fifteen when I attended The Tinderbox tour in 1986. The setlist was long, and included some beloved b sides. Siouxsie is a very dynamic performer!!❤
Why not go back a little earlier? The Scream. Join Hands? Kaleidoscope! Juju! Kiss. Hyena. I lived in Boston back then and it was always one of her stops. All incredible albums and tours. Small clubs at the beginning. Bigger theatres by 1984. I lived in Scotland in 1985/1986 and saw her 5 times during the Tinderbox tour when she busted her knee dancing one night so for the rest of the tour had to sit on a stool, except each show after about 5 or 6 songs you heard the opening bass line to Nightshift, Siouxsie grabbed her skull-topped cane, hobbled up from the stool because she couldn’t sit any more. She had to move! And of course the crowd goes insane as she’d writhe and undulate as she prepared to sing “Only at nighttime I see you…….” So yes, great time period. Her vocals were in top form in 85/86. But she was great from day one.
Did you know that more murders are committed at 92 degrees than at any other temperature? At lower temperatures, people are easy-going. Higher, it's too hot to move. But just at 92, people get irritable.
I think these goth icons (and yes, they’re goth icons whether they like it or not) should just embrace the goth label. Sure, they didn’t title themselves goth or any other term that was around in the 80s (Batcaver, ash people, etc etc.), but they still essentially created a new trend of dark wave music and clothing which became to be known as “goth.” They started a whole new sub genre.
Who writes lyrics like these anymore? The day drags by like a wounded animal The approaching disease, 92 degrees The blood in our veins and the brains in our head The approaching unease, 92 degrees Long ago in the headlines, they noticed it too But too late for the loved ones and nearly for you Shaky lines on the horizon Snakey thoughts invade each person Watch the red line creeping upwards Watch the sanity line weaken The volcanic depths of Hades' ocean Bubble under these crazed eruptions It wriggles and writhes and bites within Just below the sweating skin I wondered when this would happen again Now I watch the red line, reach that number again The blood in our veins and the brains in our head Drink the water with jagged glass Eat the cactus with bleeding mouth Not 91 or 93 but 92 Fahrenheit degrees Drink the water with jagged glass Eat the cactus with bleeding mouth Not 91 or 93 but 92 Fahrenheit degrees Shaky lines on the horizon Snakey thoughts invade each person Not 91 or 93, but 92 Fahrenheit degrees
Well, for one: Siouxsie. Her lyric for her 2015 single, "Love Crime", is just as potent; and the vocal is in a similar vein and spirit to this classic 1985/86 one, too. Hopefully, her next solo album will be an excellent follow-up to its majesty.
1984-1988 is my favorite period of Siousxie. While I really the tracks of Nocturne, the moodiness, keyboard, more eastern arrangements and studio techniques took them to a higher lever musically. 92 degrees ans Sweetest Chill along with This Unrest makes Tinderbox arguably my fav album by them. Peepshows a super close 2nd.
Great Album, and my favorite song. Seen them many times 07-14 1984 Beacon Theater NYC 05-15-1086 Radio City NYC 08-15-1987 Felt Forum. NYC 10-20-1988 Radio City. NYC 10-21-1988 SUNY Stony Brook SAC Ballroom Stony Brook, Long Island 12-04-1991 CW Post College Tiles Center Brookville, Long Island
I'd always read that Budgie was a genius. Didn't get it when I was a kid in 1986.... Jesus F'n Christ he is. That whole album - especially "This Unrest" - I just sit with my mouth agape and say... WTF --- EVERY TIME --- even though I've heard it maybe 150 times. I shouldn't have been able to listen to this stuff as a kid without a psychic guide to steer me back to sanity. I didn't.
Always imitated, but can't never ever be replicated. I wish she'd go on a short tour. I'd buy tickets in a heartbeat. Been over 27 years since seeing her.
The Greatest post-punk band band of all times & one of the Greatest bands of all Time. They were way ahead of their time and thus the blank stares from awe
Not one of their best 'tunes' not by the proverbial mile. This is music to slash your wrists by. Give me happy house any day over this, even though it's a bit twee
The audience doesnt get it tinderbox is one of her most intriguing and best work
I think they were into it, that's just how goth kids showed their enthusiasm back then.
Agreed 💯

@@exiles_dot_tv they have never been goth
Its because it was on tv they wasnt allowed to do much but watch so they didn't mess up the performance & the filming
Totally original.... no one else sounds like her.... for me the most unique and inspiring female artist I've ever heard.
by far!
All I ever wanted is to time travel back in 1986 so that I could see a live concert of Siouxsie Sioux on my own.
Soon...maybe you didnt notice yourself standing there in the crowd ;)
Saw her for the Peepshow tour, Rhapsody tour and the Creatures Boomerang tour. She never disappointed.

Peepshow and Boomerang tours. Amazing!!! 🙃

The Tinderbox album is fantastic. She also looks so theatrical and goth here even though she despises the label
I don't blame her. Even Robert Smith, Daniel ash, Andrew eldritch and others from that Era and earlier were against and disliked that label.

Carruthers was a genius on Tinderbox. Utterly gorgeous playing, orchestration and textures.
This is pure talent not seen today
there none of this fab stuff now sad

Shaky lines on the horizon
Snakey thoughts invade each person
Watch the red line creeping upwards
Watch the sanity line weaken
The volcanic depths of Hades' ocean
Bubble under these crazed eruptions
It wriggles and writhes and bites within
Just below the sweating skin
I wondered when this would happen again
Now I watch the red line, reach that number again
The blood in our veins and the brains in our head
Drink the water with jagged glass
Eat the cactus with bleeding mouth
Not 91 or 93 but 92 Fahrenheit degrees

She was a word smith. This is the most rare thing.

The finishing theme is bewitching. The beautiful voice of Siouxsie magnified by the two amazing guitars. Awesome.
Two guitars? No, just one, played by Carruthers ! Severin was the bass player ...
Exactly but the bass is still a guitar 😉
Favorite band, awesome album, great song, and a beautiful performance. Lame crowd though.
wonderful moments from a wonderful artist
2:50 fucking great moment

An amazing performance!
Great clip! The one and only. The band is tight. She's in really good voice, too.

You give the words to the intro from the studio version of this song. Where is this quote from, a movie?

Too bad Alphonse Mucha never got to paint Siouxsie.
Fuk yea favorite artist painting favorite artist wow & Aubrey Beardsley salome
I usually get bored with female singers. Never with Siouxsie, her voice is amazing. Great song, never get bored with this song either.
This might be one of her best vocal performances live! Amazing, she wasn't always that good.
One of my fav songs. But look at that blasted and bored and lazy audience :-( A shame.
Black Sun quite hypnoyic those times:)
yes shame on them
guitarists sounds off hitting bung notes and mix sounds shit too bad. album version sounds awesome.
Wow, that audience is garbage...
Seriously...
Not one of their best 'tunes' not by the proverbial mile. This is music to slash your wrists by. Give me happy house any day over this, even though it's a bit twee
