The answer I needed to my inbox explosion! So simple yet so effective. Thank you so much you've just made my email life so much easier, loved it! I was using various stars to flag all my emails and it wasn't working, I'd just have a sea of flags and didn't know where to start and never archived anything (1000+ emails in the inbox is now 0!)
This has probably been THE MOST “altering” video I have ever seen. Simply in watching it one time I have moved in excess of 200,000 emails out of my inbox and adapted a new process that puts me in control of the future in respect to my emails received. I appreciate the new organization and have found myself actually looking forward to checking my email just so I can zero the inbox again. I still have some housekeeping to take care of because my folders had folders. I am cleaning that mess up in small bites. Again, each time I remove a folder I feel relief. Thank you so much.
AMMMMY! I cant tell you how valuable this is! I just followed all the steps and my inbox (thousands of emails) are now cleared and organized into very neat manageable labelled inboxes! You know when you have over 99 unread emails, the little red bubble stops at 99? Well I had stopped paying attention to the number that it has BALLOONED to. It feels sooo good to have my emails down to 13! That's right. The 30 day rule - game changer. Thank you for always providing huge value.

I have been on project inbox zero for a while and it is liberating. When I watched this video, I thought, good advice, but my system works fine (I used different labels for all companies/topics etc). The idea of making it even more streamlines was still niggling away at me after and I thought that I should try having the multiple inbox setting, and I am so happy I did. It is amazing to be able to look at an email, and then file it to a Follow Up folder. Thank you Amy! Change is scary but it is worth it!

This is gold, Amy. Most email advice consist of vague-ish guidelines that are good but only go so far. This is specific, concisely delivered, and clever. Using the multi inboxes on the side to sort emails into "stacks" by action required and then archiving them easily shaved half the time off processing my email. Genius. (I used to write all actions on a separate to-do list & leave them in my inbox till they were done, which meant writing out everything + having to reassess each email twice or more. Never again)
I am interested if anyone has applied this to Outlook. Best I have figured out so far is to make quick actions to move into folders for these inbox categories, including a quick action to mark as read and move to an archive folder. If anyone has better ideas, please share.

I wish I knew of this when I was still working in a home health care office. I took over managing the main company email plus I had my own business email. Some days were a little overwhelming. I will definitely keep this in mind for any future endeavors.
Have been loving this inbox method since I saw Jeff Su do a tutorial on it. So helpful! Also really love the “assistant” email. We use a shared email in my office for most communication and the history is invaluable despite who has left or is still there.

Hi Amy, Just a quick question, we all know that you use the Google Calendar app and you follow the calendar blocking technique, which email app do you use on daily basis on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac? Is it the Gmail app or the Apple Mail app? Curious to know your answer. Thanks

Hi Amy, trying to move the mail to the appropriate inboxes but it doesn't work. When I go into the email I wanted to sort, type "l" and type in the inbox name, it does not pop up at all. It shows an option to create a label, please advise, thanks!

Thanks for tips on labels. Years ago I started creating for all clients and for various products and so forth. Literally have hundreds of labels. Guessing it would be fine to mass delete labels and simplify inbox. Any suggestions? Thoughts.
I totally mass deleted labels bc they were so unnecessary after so many years. I would just come up with a new general label if you feel you still need one. But honestly… google search is pretty good without them
Loved this video! Do you have any tips for doc controlers? I basicly have to sort through everyone’s e-mails (I’m always cc’d in the e-mail chains) and have to make sure all exchanged documents are on our server. I’m having a hard time making the difference between work in progress and final versions of said document. Being cc’d makes my inbox explode, and I’ve gotten really far behind, to the point of me actually having this mental block of sitting down to do the work, yet having this constant anxiety about it not being done..
I think someone who has SUPER detail orientedness can help you with that! I'm not that person, but I do things like what I showed in this video to make it easier for me as a non-detail spotting person. Know what I mean? It's the structure I need to carry on with what I have to do. There must be some kind of structure that helps with this! I hope you find it!
@amy - I have setup up my inbox of 6k emails to tackle this issue - Question, I now lost the upper tabs for the Primary, Social, and Promotion emails - so now I have 50K email cause all of them just came into my inbox - Can I still have the Primary, Social, and Promotions appear outside my main inbox? Gmail does a very good job at keeping those away from the inbox that I have now lost - Thanks for your help!

I see your email is a gmail address but your colleagues have an address with the domain name of your company. But, from what I know, you can have this responder only on your gmail address on not on any other adresses you may have add to your gmail account. So, this great idea does not work if you have a professional address and not a gmail one (I do not consider gmail address as as professional as a company address). Any help on this? How do your colleagues do? Thanks a lot as this is a solution I am desperate to adopt!
You're so welcome! I actually keep everything in my gmail box because I've been in it forever. But I have the ability to email from my professional address from that same box. It totally works for Business Gmail as well.

How do you archive emails greater than 30 days? There is no detail in the video. It is the one thing I need explained the most.

Right?! I know it's weird, but you can always pull up that label in case you want to see what's going on from a desktop view.
I was trying to do "inbox zero" but was never able to because of the "waiting on"!! If I create that separate folder... problem solved... thanks!!!

You can't take back your inbox as long as phone numbers are required for a Gmail account.

Yes. When you remove the tag, it will just get archived. Easily searchable if needed!
