Every year, the UO School of Journalism and Communication presents a lecture on critical topics journalists and communicators deal with every day. This year’s Johnston Lecture addressed how storytelling that places health and equity at the center of the climate change conversation is a powerful way to make the crisis personal and the benefits tangible.
“Climate Action as a Prescription for Health” with Dr. Renee Salas was held on April 5, 2023.
In this engaging talk and audience Q&A, Salas discussed the need for an equitable transition away from fossil fuels as the fundamental prescription to improve health and equity both now and in the future. As Salas says, we have the tools we need, but achieving this rapid transition requires engagement from across academia and society.
About the Speaker Renee Salas, MD, MPH, MS, is a recognized expert on climate change and its implications for health and health care delivery. She is an affiliated faculty member at Harvard Global Health Institute, attending physician in emergency medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, assistant professor of emergency medicine at Harvard Medical School, and senior author of The Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change.
