FFXIV's last NieR crossover raid came out . . and it had MAJOR references and all but one of them was really interesting to me. The final boss in the raid is a direct reference to the final boss of Drakengard 1, Queen Beast . . or Drakengard 3, Flower [or both]. Red Girl [N2] basically transforms into something akin to those two called "Her Inflorescence" But to what extent / how is Red Girl knowledgable about the watchers, as she is able to replicate or imitate those bosses. Also -please- do a review on that quest series specifically at some point, it's amazing. I honestly only bought FFXIV solely for the NieR content and I did not regret it at all. There are so many tiny details and nuances to it.
Free makes sense. Going in dark i felt like the first play through has that feeling that 9s starts feeling bad for the robots and doesn’t want a war to continue and that’s part of the reason he start snooping around in the yorha data base to find out why they are still fighting and he obviously cares for 2b and wants her to be free from the fighting too
Point: In the original Japanese it's written the way I say it. Counterpoint: Automaton is pronounced not like the way I say it and it's the word the name is based on. Both are probably valid.
I think the four asterisks are supposed to be kill, but are censored so it could also be a jab at the audience who undoubtedly would smash. It’s the most reinforced theory, as 9S is depicted killing versions of 2B multiple times later in the game. The two I can remember and I think the only instances are where he’s attacked by like 20 2B’s in the tower and kills them all while screaming like a mad man. The second time is in the soul(?) box, where he’s stabbing the thing (I forgot what) while hacking it from outside, and it turns into 2B, and 9S keeps stabbing it over and over while crying. I mean it could theoretically be anything, but It’s a lot more likely it was foreshadowing for 9S more than likely subconsciously knowing 2B has killed him multiple times, combined with starting to go insane because of seeing 2B die, losing his reason to fight the machines, and eventually getting the logic virus thru 2B’s arm, and getting those emotions intertwined with his love for her. But I support the “free” theory as well, because of one line in automata. In the fight I mentioned earlier where 9S has to fight a bunch of 2B’s, he says something along the lines of “it’s going to be okay 2B, I’m going to kill you now!”. This could be his “logical” way to free her. He knows he is going to die, and he wants to “free” her and take her with him, even though she is already dead. It’s hard to figure out the logic of someone who’s gone insane, but I think this is about as close as we can get.
wouldn't surprise me if one day, yoko taro decides to add an unique piece of lore into a SINGLE COPY of his next game and it's up to the lucky player who buys this copy to shere its content with the rest of the world. Plot twist: the copy is actually among the ones who haven't been sold yet.

I would love for someone to talk about the ultra powerful boss you can fight after the end of the DLC in Automata. In one of the coliseums you can do an extra trial of fighting enemies and stuff after you complete the DLC. The ending is thus ultra hard boss which has some of the angelic characters surrounding it which really reminds me of a shade from the original Nier. But you never hear anyone talk about it.

watching my friends play the replicant remaster along with this video, ive learned that boars are the true antagonists of the nier series. also great vid! lots of interesting stuff, just when you think you’ve heard everything about this franchise you learn something new
YES!!! I knew the answer was animals! I never really checked their levels but subconsciously found it wierd that they take so many bloody hits from you no matter how overpowered you are.
That's actually because the animals aren't an enemy, they're a mount. And since they serve as a weapon as well, they have to be scaled to the player character to be viable.
the opening quote from 2b in automata includes "Everything that lives is designed to end. We are perpetually trapped in a never ending spiral of life and death." i think free would fit the 4 asterisks pretty well based on this, or maybe i'm just linking two things that have no reason to be linked. great video though
I think that is also one of the last sentences in ending E, said by a pod? I played ending E, nuked my safefile, restarted a new safe file and 2B said the same thing a pod had said mere minutes ago. Also, 2B says she wants to kill whatever god forced this fate on her (which doesn't make sense at the time as you have just started the game) which directly ties in with the 'weight of the world' song (English version) where she asks god why he has to make her suffer so.
I’m surprised nobody has ever mentioned the parallels the game has to WWII, such as the war starting in 11939 and ending in 1945, the flight unit having the same name as and looking like (from the top) the Ho229, a Nazi experimental figher plane, the STG rifles everywhere in the camp, just to name a few of the many that are there.
I agree with you that we're not meant to know what verb nines wants to do to 2B, but I also agree with Clemps that it's most likely BOTH kill and fuck, if it had to be anything
my assumption of the original box art is that it depicts the outcomes of ending e? the characters have rose above the cycle of death and destruction, so that’s a hopeful thing, but 9s is somehow broken and a2 just walks a separate path from 2b and 9s
Most of the shmup segments have level scaling. Real-time level scaling too, if you level up during them all the enemies immediately level up with you even the ones that are already on screen.

2:15 All three are protagonists with A2 and 2B filling the same role. They look like they could pass for sisters and if you about it, they sort of are or like alternate universe version of each other: The central processors and AI of all YoRHa personnel were repurposed from Machines, except for A series prototypes like A2 and the Series E models like 2B who’s were modeled after A2’s central processor and AI code which as with all of the A series, were modeled after humans. Basically, for 2B, they bought the same model of A2’s CPU, Hard Drive and OS, added a few new programs and updates, and combined that with a new motherboard, RAM and PC case. They even look the same and are known for killing other YoRHa units, which burdens both A2 and 2B. Plus A2 carries around 2B’s memories and honors her last wish.
All YoRHa androids were modeled after humans, it's just that their cores, the black boxes, were repurposed machine cores, since it was too cruel to simply use an imitation of human soul as the core of something that is replaceable. But the AI itself ans the way they behave and thing is completely modeled after humans, like the original 2B predecessor being modeled after Kaine "isn't strictly mentioned by name but implied, a girl who loved her grandmother", 9S was modeled after his original predecessor who created YoRHa, and so on.
7:15 for all the theorizing this game has I'm surprised how little attention is given to how all of the important events in the game are directly related to Adam (and later Eve but it was Adam's absence that set Eve into motion).
Yoko Taro seems to love dualities and playing on words so, I am in the camp that the blanked out word. Some would say it's definitely, "kill". That would make sense, since the driving motivation of Adam seems to be hate. However, he mentions how he is fascinated about how humans can hate and love in equal measure (paraphrasing majorly). So, I think it means both kill and f***. Hate and love are also possibilities but, make less sense in the sentence. Also, recall that after Jack Ass does one of her "experiments" she concludes that killing to androids feels like sex does to humans. This would make the duality an interesting irony.
5:47 the word is kill/fuck/love/free/and more . This is all the emotions 9s might feel about different aspects of his relationship with 2b, dependant as your interpretation as the player . The word(s) is the word(s) you feel should be there.
Why would NieR without Emil be weird? It’s not like he’s a supremely powerful magical weapon with borderline immortality. He never even does anything of any significance in either game especially during the alien invasion of 5012. I could see him being relevant if during the alien invasion he’d done something drastic like idk making around 85 million copies of himself to fight but he never does.
*Fun Fact:* The Celestial Language isn't actually a language, but a cypher. It's just English with stylized Hebrew letters. (If you look at the Celestial Language, all of the letters correspond to a letter in Hebrew, and the sounds they make correspond pretty much 1:1)
Wait, are you sure that first plotline in Automata about the missing informant? The commander asks 2B and 9S to do some recon, and then also look for the missing contact. So they go do recon in the desert, have the boss fight with Adam, then report back, after which they go to the Amusement park and fight Beauvoir/Simone, who's been eating/killing YoRHa androids. I thought the implication was that the informant was one of the poor androids she ended up killing?
The party wasn't a trio because I count Weiss as a party member even if he's bound to Nier. His verbous input and relationship with the other three is enough to solidify him as one of the group. Hes not like Tyrann and only heard by Kainé, so Tryann wouldn't count
That Christopher Lambert playing everyone in the NieR movie idea wouldn't work, unfortunately. It would require multiple Christopher Lamberts to play all the parts, and... ...There can be only one.
But the context and the way the sentences structured in japanesse translation....i think this is the developer just trolled us to see how many nier's players are the degenerates. 😂
@@ThBrando If you really don't want to spend the 200+ hours it would take to play through the 3 expansions to unlock it, you can buy a story and level skip to get you up to Shadowbringers, which is then only 1 expansion to tear through before you reach the NieR raids :D I actually found these videos while trying to look up Drakengard stuff to find where I needed to start to grasp all of the references in the final raid haha.
Wasn't the original NieR supposed to have no connection to Drakengard and some somber game about fairy tales but later got changed, hence the names for the bosses? And wasn't SINoALICE supposed to be the game NieR originally intended to be but Taro decided to change it into it being the remaining human memories that are stored in the server but have to relive their life over and over again until they're put into androids or replicants / new humans?
Not sure if this fits with the "scaling" topic but I've seen a pair of robots in the abandoned factory who are level 99. I was at that level too when I first found them so idk if they scale when you're lower but that encounter just felt so random. They're just in a secluded corner you wouldn't normally go to, and it's kinda dark there during route C/D so if you don't have the flashlight on you'd be surprised you suddenly got one-shotted by a normal looking mob.
I think the four asterisks is intentionally left that way because there isn't supposed to be just one word that could fit there. In my opinion, I think kill, free, fuck, love, etc. are ALL appropriate answers, and can all be true simultaneously. Emotions are complicated, and Automata goes to great lengths to show that decidedly inorganic androids can develop feelings that are just as complex as any human's - "humanity" is not truly lost because it lives on within the androids (and the machines, to some degree). People can have mixed feelings, so I don't see why 9S couldn't have felt all of those things about 2B at the same time.
With the ending of the new arc of Reincarnation, it makes me wonder if that game takes place 500 years after Automata and the android in black is 10H and her new party members.
The only reason boar and moose level scales with yours is because you can ride them. If there was no option to mount them they'd be like every other thing in the game
Someone said that the nier automata box art kinda describes what happens in farewell (ending e epilogue). 2b wakes up first but struggles to wake up 9s. a2 was never mentioned in farewell thats why i said it kinda depicts the box art.
You know, there is always one thing that bugged me other than the questions people most likely will also have after playing Replicant / Gestalt and/or Automata. We learnt in the game that the Desert we go through in Automata is where Facade once was. Given the obvious references with the outfits that the Machines wear, the masks, in the DLC, # of rules, trials and probably weapon stories. Then you see "modern" buildings, a playground in the next area where you first encounter Adam. But if you compare the landscape (if that's the word for this) in Replicant / Gestalt and look around the surroundings when you're in the same desert area, You see no "modern" buildings near Facade at all. The only area where you do see them is in the Shadowlord's Castle and even then if I recall, it's directly underground the Shrine where Hansel & Gretel and Weiss was at. So how did these buildings even appear thousands of years later? Was there some sort of Illusion Magic casted by the Shadowlord? Did the war between Emil / his clones and the Aliens somehow destroyed the land deep enough for the buildings to pop out? Even if the 2nd well, "theory" I just said is it, how are the buildings not completely destroyed and it's just moderately damaged? This question is probably already answered in some other media or a book or I'm thinking a bit tooooo much on some minor detail. Which also reminds me on why does the Shadowlord's Castle looks so pristine as well.
Plausible. Though this would lead to another question of "Where did they find the time and effort to do so". Because all the "modern" buildings we see in Automata are clearly moderately damaged and aged. Definitely sat there for at least 10s of years. Which speaking about time, it wouldn't make sense for the same buildings that was shown in Shadowlord's Castle to be standing after thousands of years even if we exclude the factor of "Emil vs Alien War" that may damage or destroy the buildings. I'm no construction worker but I doubt buildings can last that long without any sort of care. I wonder if I dug myself a rabbit hole when I asked myself this building questions.
Nice.... Now I need to yet again open my notebook.... And write some more about nier. Ofc. Don't worry. When we will fully know everything about nier. The book shall be finished and become a family heirloom.... And yes.... It will be in the future 1000y.....hopefuly.
My second theory is that this endless cycle 2B is one in which Drakengard and NieR are both sequels and prequels simultaneously. One leads to the other and then the other loops back to NieR endlessly until hopefully 2B and 9S break the cycle or Accord stops it from repeating forever. The ark that goes into space could somehow lead to Drakengard and the "futuristic" city in Drakengard and Drakengard leads to NieR through Angelus. I have this one more fleshed out but, I'm tired so I will leave it at that for now. I do believe there are things in the timeline that also seem to point to the ideas I've mentioned. If anybody could provide clarity to these possibly silly ideas, that would be great.

@@ThBrando thanks man! Think you'll cover Replicant when it drops?
@@maxlvl912 Maybe. If it's just a graphical and gameplay upgrade, I don't think I can add anything that hasn't already been said. If there's a significant amount of new content / plot changes, I might give it a go.
Going in dark i felt like the first play through has that feeling that 9s starts feeling bad for the robots and doesn’t want a war to continue and that’s part of the reason he start snooping around in the yorha data base to find out why they are still fighting and he obviously cares for 2b and wants her to be free from the fighting too
New iceberg entry
Ahnamanha
Referencing how no one can agree on a pronunciation for this game
God that is poetic and depressing, another reason why Nier:Automata is my favorite game
And yes, 100% would smash 2B
wouldn't surprise me if one day, yoko taro decides to add an unique piece of lore into a SINGLE COPY of his next game and it's up to the lucky player who buys this copy to shere its content with the rest of the world.
Plot twist: the copy is actually among the ones who haven't been sold yet.
Anything NieR im immediately curious
Knowing NieR, there's probably hidden implications to the 2B costume in Gravity Rush 2...
And who knows what the hell Accord is up to on the dark side of Earth in Automata.
Whos accord
@@alexterieur8813 An android introduced way back in Drakengard 3, I forgot the NPCs name in Automata but they talk about Accord being on the other side of the earth stuck in darkness in casual dialogue.
@@-S.a.k. there were androids in the drakengard series? Did the androids in automata comes from the drakengard universe then?
@@alexterieur8813 Hard to say without spoilers for D3 and the true ending for it. Not much gets explained with her though tbh. Besides that shes an Android working under a mysterious organization, probably Yorha, but she keeps record of what happens in D3. My guess was convoluted time travel because Yoko Taro.
Edit: I'm hoping the next big Yoko Taro/Nier game actually explains that more
@@-S.a.k. No, YoRHa is just a disposable Organization created by Androids that are meant to fully remove hostile Machine Lifeform presence from Earth, there are still other Android Organizations in Earth like the Night Kingdom which exists in the Eternal Night side of the Earth, which we never traveled to (both Replicant and Automata took place on the Eternal Day side, even the same Area too).
I normally dislike ice berg videos but these were great man. Keep it up.
Thanks a lot!
Going back after Automata to play the other games and delve into the side materials and connections was really fun for me, and it's cool how you're bringing that stuff to more people. Are you planning on doing a third one?
Maaaaaybe. I'd have to come across enough to make it worthwhile.
Much obliged Sir,,, 👌👌
Strangely i watched part 1 yesterday, really enjoyed it and when you said you gona do part 2, I was like I hope he does. I opened youtube it was recommended to watch, uploaded 27 hours ago. Finished the game today everything 100% except fishing & the third coliseum in the forest. I wish they make a sequel, platinum games is a must, Yoko Taro is genuis indeed, but it all stops at platinum games they nailed it, never had this much fun since Super Metroid, Mario 64, Ace Combat 3 electrosphere J version, Metal Gear Solid PS1 & Ace Combat Zero The Belkan War.
I'm hoping we get to see more of NieR as well. Replicant Remaster drops in 3 weeks!
@@ThBrando Same here, got it on pre-order PS4, really excited. 😄
Man, we need to compile the whole ordeal of Nier + Drakengard to figure out everything, because YIKES it is hard to access a lot of this stuff.
Ngl these iceberg videos were super dope. Let me give you this fat subscription
watching my friends play the replicant remaster along with this video, ive learned that boars are the true antagonists of the nier series. also great vid! lots of interesting stuff, just when you think you’ve heard everything about this franchise you learn something new
YES!!! I knew the answer was animals! I never really checked their levels but subconsciously found it wierd that they take so many bloody hits from you no matter how overpowered you are.
Nice guess my guy
That's actually because the animals aren't an enemy, they're a mount. And since they serve as a weapon as well, they have to be scaled to the player character to be viable.
the opening quote from 2b in automata includes "Everything that lives is designed to end. We are perpetually trapped in a never ending spiral of life and death."
i think free would fit the 4 asterisks pretty well based on this, or maybe i'm just linking two things that have no reason to be linked.
great video though
That's a good point, could be that yeah.
6:00 so Yoko Taro is definitely a fan of RWBY, right?
I’m surprised nobody has ever mentioned the parallels the game has to WWII, such as the war starting in 11939 and ending in 1945, the flight unit having the same name as and looking like (from the top) the Ho229, a Nazi experimental figher plane, the STG rifles everywhere in the camp, just to name a few of the many that are there.
I should`ve taken that job as a cookbook while i had the chance
That's a good line my dude
@@ThBrando My dude!? I say! Do not address me as some common peon! I am Grimoire Weiss! Haha jk, love the channel man!
@@brinzul2769 Haha, thanks a lot, glad you like it!
I agree with you that we're not meant to know what verb nines wants to do to 2B, but I also agree with Clemps that it's most likely BOTH kill and fuck, if it had to be anything
Android feel a lot of things when they kill, including being free of things and some sort of sexual pleasure. It had to be kill more than anything.
my assumption of the original box art is that it depicts the outcomes of ending e? the characters have rose above the cycle of death and destruction, so that’s a hopeful thing, but 9s is somehow broken and a2 just walks a separate path from 2b and 9s
I love yoko taro, dude is such an enigma
I thoroughly enjoyed these two videos thank you so much, god it's 2 am and I have work in the morning, but it was worth it!
Stay strong on the grind
An all Christopher Lambert film adaptation would be awesome! I'd watch it at least twice.
But how would you see ending C, D, and E if you stopped there?
Most of the shmup segments have level scaling. Real-time level scaling too, if you level up during them all the enemies immediately level up with you even the ones that are already on screen.
Brando thanks for everything nier you've done. I'm a massive fan
18:19 i was not surprised that i got this right. the first time i wanted to upgrade my sword i noticed if this thing hits you twice you're not getting up
Hell yeah, I've been waiting for this
Hope you enjoy it!
Trio? Don’t forget my boy Veiss.
14:14 The Flame of Prometheus was put in the Short Story Long novel too, so if you buy the book from the image in the top row, second from the left, you'll get that story in something with "NieR" on it 😛
Really digging the channel btw, are you gonna make any videos on the NieR/Final Fantasy XIV crossover?
Commented on the last video before I saw this one but apparently Father Nier and Brother Nier are both Canon but everytime I research it it contradicts itself and doesn't make sense due to the opening and Emil etc. Maybe make a video? Could be a fun topic
Dunno if you saw my other reply, but its definitely a topic I'd like to check out. I wanna get familiar with brother Nier more first.

All three are protagonists with A2 and 2B filling the same role. They look like they could pass for sisters and if you about it, they sort of are or like alternate universe version of each other:
The central processors and AI of all YoRHa personnel were repurposed from Machines, except for A series prototypes like A2 and the Series E models like 2B who’s were modeled after A2’s central processor and AI code which as with all of the A series, were modeled after humans.
3:30 standard uni room, mine came with important plot details
7:15 for all the theorizing this game has I'm surprised how little attention is given to how all of the important events in the game are directly related to Adam (and later Eve but it was Adam's absence that set Eve into motion).
I think there was an audio clip somewhwre on the net where 9S describes his difficulty with the hardest enemy
I played nier automata about 2 years ago and i just found out there was a prequel and how real ending was in part 5 of a concert??? Im so lost LMAO
Your videos are just ..... GOLD.
I always thought anemone was the informant XD
thank you for the effort put into these videos.
14:00 Mind f-ing blown... suddenly I feel a whole lot better about the Beepy fight.
same, im glad he made it
Me too, but I feel bad about the baby shade
@@AninRose8 Kalil deserved better 😔
0:28 yes, i do too
very great video !!
Thanks!
For the NieR Automata box art, I thought 2B holding 9S was a reference to how she holds him when leaving the Copied City.
That Christopher Lambert playing everyone in the NieR movie idea wouldn't work, unfortunately. It would require multiple Christopher Lamberts to play all the parts, and...
...There can be only one.
I do think free as well as f**k and kill can be viable options, I do agree with your point that it's meant to be ambiguous when playing the scene.
But the context and the way the sentences structured in japanesse translation....i think this is the developer just trolled us to see how many nier's players are the degenerates. 😂
Oh man, the last nier raid on ff14 is a big wth is happening moment
Man my entire timeline is blowing up with it. I've got that mad FOMO
@@ThBrando If you really don't want to spend the 200+ hours it would take to play through the 3 expansions to unlock it, you can buy a story and level skip to get you up to Shadowbringers, which is then only 1 expansion to tear through before you reach the NieR raids :D
I actually found these videos while trying to look up Drakengard stuff to find where I needed to start to grasp all of the references in the final raid haha.
rewatching these to see how many of these little details will be in the anime
That Deadly Premonition whistling song at the end of the video. 👌
Weiss be like: This baffoon said trio
Not sure if this fits with the "scaling" topic but I've seen a pair of robots in the abandoned factory who are level 99. I was at that level too when I first found them so idk if they scale when you're lower but that encounter just felt so random. They're just in a secluded corner you wouldn't normally go to, and it's kinda dark there during route C/D so if you don't have the flashlight on you'd be surprised you suddenly got one-shotted by a normal looking mob.
Really great vids. Subbed.
If there was no option to mount them they'd be like every other thing in the game
is another one of these possible a year later?
Someone said that the nier automata box art kinda describes what happens in farewell (ending e epilogue). 2b wakes up first but struggles to wake up 9s. a2 was never mentioned in farewell thats why i said it kinda depicts the box art.
I'll honestly see "free" as the canon version of what's under the four asterisks, dunno why, but it feels like it's the correct one for some reason.
I'm sure the box art for automata is a reference to Michelangelos pieta, a sculpture of Mary holding a dying Jesus
Maybe the machines built them to emulate humans?
Iceberg 2 let’s gooo
Lmfao he made the R capital just cuz it looks cool lmfao

Nice.... Now I need to yet again open my notebook.... And write some more about nier. Ofc. Don't worry. When we will fully know everything about nier. The book shall be finished and become a family heirloom.... And yes.... It will be in the future 1000y.....hopefuly.
Thank you for the video!
No Problem! Glad you liked it.
enjoyed the vid alot bruh.
looking forward to your next one!
Glad you enjoyed!
5:36 nah, 9S totally wants to bone 2B
If there is anything that I've been taught by Yoko taro, is that he is based af and I love every second of it
My second theory is that this endless cycle 2B is one in which Drakengard and NieR are both sequels and prequels simultaneously. If anybody could provide clarity to these possibly silly ideas, that would be great.
the beepy lore has left me with my head in my hands
