I was thinking the same thing, but then you put in some campfire video while you "burned it up on guitar", so all is right with the world! Ha ha! Plus, you were wearing an American Flag hat, so I had to thank you for that! Cheers from a long way across the pond in the USA :-)
I think often people are looking for that perfect tone and don't realize it's not going to fit in the Mix well.. I like your review style and I've now subscribed! Thanks man!
I don't know why the Stiletto is an unpopular series. That was a great demonstration and the video was classy as well. Great stuff man. Love to watch your videos.
I never knew this amp was hated so much...i got one in 2016, the exact model used in this demo and i gotta say that I LOVE IT. Great cleans and it takes pedals like a champ. I discover new and exciting tones every dang time i plug in.
Don't know anything about Mesa amps but this one sure sounds great ! Maybe a little bit too trebly for my taste but it's all subjective. Thanks for putting out so many quality videos, yours have been a pleasant surprise every time I log on youtube. Cheers from France
Great sound. Nice full lead tone. Crunchy rhythm. I like how you make something simply played sound so good. Music is not about flashy playing ALL the time.
Johan Segeborn ...i love your effort man. your passion and detail for guitars and amps is just unbelievable. i respect that. i appreciate your work man. you are amazing. Thank you very much for the videos and details it help a lot. keep post more videos.
I recently purchased a 1994 Mesa Boogie prototype Maverick and at first I didn't think I liked it but after spending time learning how the controls worked, I LOVE IT! Fantastic playing, you rock!
I gigged a Stiletto Ace for years. I received compliments on my tone nearly every gig. Put a delay in the loop and it’s all you need for 95% of gigs. Great video.
Hey do you still have the stiletto? I just picked up a 1 x 12 ACE. I am so confused with the " hard bypass" Can you engage the effects loop even without something plugged in to use the output under solo as an additional control ?? thanks !
@@Tomalo-Dub Sadly no longer own a Stiletto, or any other tube amp for that matter. I’m using an Axe FX 3 these days. The hard bypass just removes the fx loop from the circuit. You can leave the loop not bypassed and still use the solo feature even if nothing is plugged in to the send/return jacks. Enjoy! I still think it’s an awesome amp!
@@wannabweiland huge thank you ! I appreciate the response 🤘. I def have to check out the FX 3! I can’t believe how cheap the stilettos are going , I guess people want smaller these days !
liking that you sneaked the epi in there, sounds good. One of things I noticed with my Peavey vkii is that received alot grief in regards to the lead channel, but I noticed that band players kept pointing out on its own it's sounds wrong, but in a band mix it cuts through and sound great.
Sounds great to me and the song was great too. And I want to say that those nature or city scenes really make your videos unique and more pleasant to watch. You probably hear this all the time, but if I ever visit Sweden I would really like to meet you.
My first electric ever was an Epiphone Les Paul Special II very similar to the one you're playing. I took the neck off and sanded the paint off of the back so my hand would slide easier on the bare wood. Best mod I've ever made to any guitar! Awesome playing and awesome showing great tone doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg! I really enjoy your videos.
The Mesa sounds good because you understand how to get the tones balanced. It doesn't matter what sort of amp one uses, if a player knows how the tone knobs interact, then achieving a usable sound shouldn't be an impossibility. My favorite amps are tube models for guitar and solid state for bass. However, the most important thing is how well you know the song and how relaxed you are when you play. That Mesa would sound great behind anyone who knows his guitar intimately. If the folks from Mesa decided to send me one for free, I wouldn't send it back! Great video with great tone, as always!
You are so right about these amps. Was watching Andy Timmons and his Stiletto just sings! A real nice combination of Fender and Marshall all in one. What great versatility. Thank for such a great track. BTW, the bass track tone was killer!!
I had a stiletto for a short time. And I really liked it. Very British sounding amp. Nice job as always. I agree you sound good through any amp you play.
I have a Mesa Stiletto Ace and I love it. It gets a full range of tones and can scream with the best of them. I use the two crunch settings, one in each channel, the most but the cleans are particularly nice and harmonically rich. I love all of your videos, Johan. Thank you.
YES!!!!! Johan Thank you for proving what ive been saying for a couple years now. I play the 2x12 version and i just think its one of the most versatile British voiced amps ever. I have mine loaded with creamback m65s. Completely sealed back combo. The amp is completely separated from the speaker cab! I just love the design. Great job!
It had the mesa v30s. Which are fantastic speakers. To my ears a much better speaker than the regular production v30. Much smoother top end. However ive grown to be such a fan of the creamback 65 so i swapped them out.
I love my Mesa Engineering Stiletto Deuce II head. I have to add that [it] is an extremely bright amplifier, but in a band situation in a mix, the Stiletto cuts through very well. I loaded my Stiletto's pre-amp with NOS tubes, and installed two NOS GE rectifier tubes. I had Avatar Speakers build me a vintage style 4X12 eight Ohm cabinet loaded with two Celestion G12H 30 'Hellatone' and two Celestion Alnico Gold speakers in an X-pattern. That cabinet with the Stiletto is a very lethal pairing for any guitar tones. Especially when I lean towards more of a 'heavy' sonic guitar signature. Stiletto also pairs up well with other rigs to expand upon even more dynamic and sonic depth.
I had the stiletto deuce version 1. It could sound good, but definitely needs darker speakers like a greenback type. Version 1 can be brittle sounding. The Ace is by far my favorite Stiletto. Another great video!
I had this exact one in fawn for a few years, it was the last in my ten year run of Boogie amps for gigging. Although it was a brilliant amp I could never dial in the dirty sound brown enough.Too pointy. A creamback helped. This model took pedals really well and the clean sound was amazing! Run it through one of those old bottoms! Let's Go!
I freaking love it! I myself did a vindication video of the Stiletto Deuce stage II - and I love that thing- now your making me want to get the ACE combo ! Great job sir- great freaking job!
A little behind the times here but awesome, simple musical video highlighting the Ace’s strengths 👍 I had a Stiletto Ace head years ago and am looking to pick one up again. I remember it being a better Marshall sound than Marshall haha
OK Johan, you really need to put together a riff CD or playlist on youtube as someone else suggested...loved this one!! Simple and effective! So, I had never played a Mesa amp...where I live we have a very famous guitar store called the House of Guitars (HOG), I go often...one day with an R9 in hand I decided to go their high gain room and check out tones.....there I saw a wall of Dual recitfiers and other forms of life I had never played, in the back corner, all dusty and hidden were a stiletto and a lonestar special. Well, I dont know where the bad sound reputation comes from but within 5 minutes I was hearing the most beautiful tones.....amazing stuff.....I am negotiating the price of the LOnestar......thanks for bringing this one to life....if you can get a LOnestar special that would be a nice demo too....cheers!!
+rcolang1 Thanks! I'm so glad that you like the riffs. I'm gonna make full mixes with vocals of many of these jams in coming clips. And I really hope to do a lonestar too soon. Cheers Johan
I have the head version of this amp and it sounds and records awesome when turned up. At low volumes I throw a graphic EQ in the loop with a smile curve and it comes alive, as things do sound a little lifeless otherwise. Cool song Johan!
Cem Sarioglu I see this phrase so often that it seems to have become dogma amongst guitarists. We all have the same flesh and bone in our hands as humans. Do you mean tone is in the technique of the hands? That's much more plausible and accurate. For if tone were simply in the hands, we would be discussing the hands of the greatest guitarists instead of the equipment they used. Guitar amplifiers vary greatly in manufacturing process and components, which by all logic, is much a more plausible explanation when it comes to tone and signature sounds. I guess I'm the odd man out on the subject.
I gigged the 2x12 combo for a couple of years. Just bought it for options during a recording project and it gradually wormed its way to being my number one. They can be made to be horribly bright, but much like some Marshalls, you just need to start with the treble, mid and presence at 0 and turn them up until things sound right. Typically that'd be around 9pm on Treble and mids, presence at maybe 10pm, bass at noon. The louder the master was, the better it sounded. Oh, have to admit I changed the speakers from V30s to G12-65s (those were designed for bright and lively Marshally overdrive), perfect match.
Nearly commented on your DSL vid the other day asking if you had considered trying the Mesa Lonestar and/or Stiletto! Lonestar/LS special is Mesas D style amp imo. It has a 3 way toggle tone switch next to the input, middle is 'normal' (Fender/Dumble style) Up for plexi style tone and Down for 'classic' Mesa tone - all done with various capacitors I think? nothing too complex but it's effective enough! I bet you'd love it!
Johan!! Looking to go to a combo downsizing from a jcm 800 2204 and a 4x12. Liking the versatility of this Ace, and wondering how "close" to a marshall tone it will get. I have a chance to get one for a GREAT price and more versatile it seems than current marshall combos. Thoughts? Keep on ripping it my dude!
At band practice and gigs, go with some orange amp set very clean as a poweramp almost. At home I play mesa, cause there I got all the time in tje world to tweak for my favourite sound. Best tone I ever heard was a Stiletto or a Lone Star when I saw the Stone Roses at Hultsfred festival.
I totally agreed with you Johan. It is one of the best amp from Mesa Boogie..! It's just needed to be tweak correctly. Had owned both head version and combo..! Great demo..
Great sound Johan, I'm surprised that performed like that too!! Is that an open back with 1 Celestion Black Shadow 90 in it? Also, is that a Gibson Classic 57, plus, burstbucker in your Epiphone? Right on, great sound again!
+The Sandman Thanks man, I thought it had a V30 and the back is almost closed. I have to open it up and check! The Epi has a Burstbucker II in the bridge. Cheers!
I just recently got a Triple Rectifier for $525USD...Great deal but it was sitting for awhile so found a guy selling unmarked Mesa Shuguang 6L6's on eBay. Amp wasn't sounding quite to my liking after the tube swap, kinda that late 90's Rectifier sound...had a buddy that owns a studio comment when he heard the deal I got on it he said, "Great. Now throw some EL34's in it and you'll have a usable amp!" His words came back into my mind after trying the new 6L6's, threw in some EL34's and it has since become the 2nd amp I use in my 2 amp set up that I run at the same time(along with my '79 50 watt Marshall JMP w/ KT88's and modified by Mark Cameron)...anyways, short explanation from this is I had kind of written off Mesa for a certain late 90's sound and certain type of music and had alot of fun with it! Always helps to keep an open mind with amps and guitars! BTW, seems like Mesa's can really do great with open back cabs or Thiele ported front cabs and Black Shadow 90 speakers...kinda strange considering they're usually paired up with V30's closed. Thanks!
I've heard people playing stiletto, and each of those people sounded different. Funny thing that I never heard people saying anything bad about this amazing amp. Great playing/song/vid btw
I had no idea this was a hated amp. I always felt the stiletto was a great sounding amp.

+moonkef Yeah the Lonestar will be demoed as soon as I get my hands on one! Great amp. Cheers Johan

+Seb LP Thanks! Yeah we can do that one too. Remind me if it doesn't come up. Cheers!
Johan, you promised to make some comparison between real Pleaxi and his VST emulation (Amplitube, Revolver, etc).
+Sergey Gavrilov Thanks Sergey, I'll add it to the list!
Yet again an amazing track and video. I'm convinced you could make a blender sound good. Damn fine job!
Plugs a cheap guitar into a disliked amp and sounds like heaven. You ROCK Johan :)
Very Cool , loved it.!
+Arvind L Dayal Thanks! :-)

that's a pretty neat jam. .....good example of "less is more". is that something u just threw together for this video?
+Bryan Keith Thanks man, yeah it was improvised there. Cheers
Hey Johan I sent you a message regarding an idea for a show- did you get it? I never heard back from you so I don't know if you got it.
+KassperT Hi! I'm afraid I get many messages and I'm gonna go through them this weekend. Remind me if you don't get an answer! Cheers Johan

+Glenn Lambson Thanks!
"Hi...well you know...guitar players are really odd people" LOL! He gets it!
Nice of you to put your stunt doubles in the video, but which one is YOU?
Thanks for showing it's not the gear but the player!
+destroso Thanks my friend!
