    This is a tough topic to distinguish-which is funny since it is "the norm"-it should be readily identifiable. The application on an individual level is tough-and likely pointless or unconstructive when it isn't motivating. This was indeed the focus of the discussion. But at the same time, without norms it is hard to determine the movement of a group. It's negativity comes from its "baggage" and how we wield it. There have been times in history when people accepted the unacceptable because it was "the norm"-when they got a different perspective, they could see is was indeed not always "the norm" and they were remiss (e.g., racism)-so knowledge of "the norm" was critical.
