I have a husky/wolf hybrid. He wound up abandoned twice and in the same shelter by the time he was slightly over one. I don't guess the shelter were aware of his heritage because it is their policy not to adopt out wolves. I found out when I got his DNA. My Loki is my best friend ever. Silly boy freaked when he saw a mouse, ran in front of me and gaurded me. He loves me as I love him. An ex boyfriend stalked me and got in my house. Loki knew him and actually liked him so he must not have thought that my boy would react. That asshole, creep hit me. My Loki grabbed him by the arm and gave him 17 stitches. Said he was getting my boy taken but I took pics of my bruise and a black eye. My boy is my protector and I am his.
Good for Loki, here he is the God of protection not of mischief. Glad your dog is still with you and that your Ex was lucky it was just 17 stiches he got. Again, good on Loki👍
@@55Quirll thank you. I had to drag him off because he was extremely upset. He let go but he didn't want to. He kept wimping and locking me. Either he was worried about me or thought he was going to get in trouble
They are not for everyone but if you are one of the lucky ones who have what it takes you can not get a better companion. I've had several and they are my favorite dogs.
The one thing you left out is the vocalization of the Siberian Husky. Our female is constantly talking to us and more so to my wife. They have conversations everyday. Sometimes I can't help but to laugh when they get to talking. Our Jasmine likes her walks, but she will not walk next to us on the leash. She walks in front keeping a tight leash, but not pulling us hard. At least until she spots a squirrel or a cat. She is highly intelligent. She knows words and can differentiate the names of her toys to know which toy you want her to bring. She also has a sense of time. I am on a special eating plan that requires that I eat every 2.5 hours and she comes to remind me right on time. If I ignore her she will will go tell my wife. She has never destroyed anything in the house. She lets us know when she wants to go to her crate to sleep every evening. She makes a great companion.
I own both a working/show cross and two show line huskies. They both have an aptitude to pull, however there is a difference in drive and endurance. I am a recreational musher and like to go out either sledding/dryland mushing depending on weather. It seems like my show line huskies run out of steam quicker while my working female could just keep going. I will say that regardless of background, they do need mental stimulation. They are a smart, mischievous breed. Without structure and training, they can and will be destructive. I have found that all of my huskies have been highly trainable. Its all about having fun and not making it seem like it’s work. As far as temperament goes, they’re all amazing. They have very quirky and unique personalities. We do sled dog demos where I live, and they love people and vice versa. Honestly, they are a fantastic breed but are not for everyone. It’s a pleasure to own them and they are definitely my heart breed.
I couldn't agree with you more on all counts .....I have 2 pedigrees, 1 is show line from a breeder & 1 working line from rescue i took about 18 months after the first one. I do canicross running with both. My "working female " would run forever, my "Show" male runs as far as he feels is necessary hahah but hes the one that gets really excited when I get the running harnesses & gear out. Yes they definitely have very different personalities, but not sure if that is a male/female husky thing or working vs show line . Definitely not a dog for beginners & plenty of research before getting one is a must, I'm pleased the breeder made us wait 2 years with many visits to her kennels to learn everything about the breed from diet exercise, grooming etc to be sure it was the right dog for us, also shows she is in it for the breed not to get quick $$$ in her pocket . but I'd never change my decision to have one
I have two working line huskies (Ares and Athena). They are fairly large, with Ares weighing 65 lbs (29.5 kilos) and Athena weighing 55 lbs (25 kilos) and they are incredibly high energy dogs. I'm single and so I have to walk them by myself. Walking them together is like trying to wrestle a bear. It is like having a pair of three year old children, each with the strength of an adult person. It is a lot of work sometimes, but they are amazing dogs. They are insanely affectionate and cuddly with each other and with me. They are also incredibly playful and fun. They have huge personalities and they are quite talkative. Huskies are fantastic dogs.
They are definitely energetic and loveable. They like to talk back, reason out, communicate with you. You have to have 💯 % patience in having a husky . They need time and attention. They are intelligent but playful creatures❤️☺️
As I see Kal in the video I can say that the only difference between him and the working line huskies is in the looks and the temperament. He is simply an easygoing dog but I'm sure he works the same as the working line huskies. What people say about huskies being untrainable, that is just an urban legend. I've had huskies and German shepherds since my early childhood and I can say that huskies can be trained just like the German shepherds. I've trained them together when I was a teenager. Probably having the German shepherd alongside made it easier for the Husky. And I used to take them out off leash, never did the Husky run away, she'd always come back at my whistle. Never got more than 5-600 meters away from me.
Huskies need a bit more negotiation in training than a lot of people are used to. People expect dogs to automatically listen to them and want to please their owners. Huskies are not like that; they are highly independent. Training a husky is a lot of negotiation, you need to *convince* a husky to listen to your orders, they won't automatically do so.
9:26. Pure Joy on his face. They are very trainable, my 98 lb. Working husky will be in harness, come within 3 feet of a squirrel on the side of the trail, and not flinch. All I have to say is “leave it”, and it’s eyes forward, he doesn’t break stride. It takes consistency and positive reinforcement, with raw meat rewards. Affection and kindness, and having him with me almost constantly, has formed a trusting, unbreakable bond.
He's a looker, I had two about 20 yrs ago. Sister's and they were like him. One of the best dogs I ever had. Sweet girls and very trainable and loving. Neither had that prey drive in them tho , more laid back and loving But I kept them well worked. Bike riding so they could run for about two hours everyday kept them very mellow and helped them to not tear up things. But if you missed a day or two they went wild.....lolol. Thanks for the video young lady, love your channel. Keep up the good work dear girl 👍👍👍👍👍🖐🖐🌹🌹
My husky is one of the smartest dogs I have ever known I adopted her from the pound and she teaches me what she knows every day. She is sassy, funny, brilliant and I love her as if we have been together all our lives.
Oh he is stunning. I have a two year old Husky Newfie cross. The two breeds play off of each other well. She's gold and black, and really one of the best dogs I've ever had.
My Husky is definitely not a show Husky, and he’s never worked a day in his life, so he’s somewhere in between, but he’s still my best friend. I couldn’t see myself with any other kind of dog. Oh, and by the way, I love your tank tops.
I have a 6 month old husky puppy. I got her at 7 weeks old. She’s by far the best thing to happen to me. I love the husky breed. Huskies are beautiful, smart and independent.
I was a bit skeptical when i first saw the title but wow you did an amazing job explaining the husky. the difference is not big between them but i fully agree. i’ve been an Husky owner for 12 years (today we have 7 and a kennel) and husky lover for over 20 years, reading everything i could. The struggle with them, the changing everything you thought you knew. Having a husky as a teacher is a true gift. But i would like you to do a update video of him when he is 5 years and telling us what that has been like since this video. Because i am sure you will learn a bit more as he grows up completely and also if you get another husky, or two more, what it is like to have multiple huskies. What i did find out after getting our forth and fifth and 7th huskies, when i got a true pack is much more understanding for the working husky owners, that is thouse who have atleast 6 huskies. They are listening even more on each other and less on you. They will get more like the working huskies as you describe. Still more mellow indoors but i do understand why they live in kennels outside. although i want mine to have the choice. excellent choice of breeder, her dogs is amazing ! i hope to one day be able to have one from them too.
It makes a lot of sense to me. We rescued a red Siberian husky from a shelter. As a first time husky owner, we were prepared to see how much furniture or anything from our house she would chew. We make sure to walk her twice a day. Our husky never bothered with anything around house except the toys we give her. She has long super soft fur and very pretty. I thought she had puppy fur and will grow out eventually but she didn't. I was guessing she was a mix with something else as she is different from any husky we've seen. I now understand there is a show line husky and our husky is definitely a show line kind. We're blessed to have her and she is very friendly and sweet to anyone she meets. She is exactly like Kal-El, pulls only when she sees squalls, very gentle with eating off from our hands, very calm and sweet. She is a giant cat, she naps all day and has very soft cat fur and follow us everywhere in the house. I should try to train her more. We have her for a year now and she just turned two years old. Thank you for your video.
Huskies are really a one-of-a-kind breed. It's more like you become part of its pack instead of him becoming part of your family. They're like a handsome star quarterback that does really dumb things sometimes and isn't entirely smart but everyone forgives and loves anyway. They're one-up on us.
I wish more people would watch videos like this on dog breeds before getting one just because they like the way they look. I know I don’t have a lot of free time, don’t have a big yard and don’t have near as much as an active lifestyle anymore. So for the last 13 years or so I’ve been sticking with the bully breeds. My current dog is a pocket American Bully. Got him a few years ago when my older XL type bully was getting older. The older one ended up getting cancer and I had to make the tough decision to put him down before he started to suffer a lot. My current dog got to know the old big guy for about 5 months and had become attached to him. So it took him a couple months to get used to not having him around. But for my current lifestyle he is perfect. If I sleep in he will stay in bed with me as long as I do. When I’m gone he sticks to his toys and doesn’t mess up anything. He can be as chill as I need him to be or play as long as I want him to play. He loves the outdoors and running around but is content chilling and watching a movie with me on the couch. And as far as he’s concerned he has no enemies lol. Doesn’t matter if he’s never met you before he your new best friend. He can look a little intimidating to people that don’t know the breed because he looks like a short pit bull on steroids. But as soon as he makes eye contact with you and wags his tail with his natural smile he always wins everyone over. If you’re getting a dog make sure you match the breed to your lifestyle and be honest with yourself about what you can really handle.
I just got a husky as a gift , he’s 8 weeks old . In 5 days I had him he’s learned how to use the doggie door, sit for a treat and stay . He is good as a 8 week old puppy can be with two Chihuahuas.
I have a 10 year old, 75 lb male Siberian Husky named Chaos. I got him as a gift at the age of 9 months old. He has been a challenging dog to have, but walking him regularly and giving him a German Shepherd younger brother has made him much less destructive and desiring to escape and run off. Although, he has escaped on me several times, but i was always able to catch him, because i ran straight after him haha. He has given me a run for my money several times, and his prey drive is insane and stealthy! Not a first time dog owner type of dog haha, but super sweet and intelligent and absolutely gorgeous!
Congratulations Anneke, this is the most beautiful husky i have ever seen! Yes i knew there is a working line and a show line. I think many people do not know, get a working line husky because of it's looks and then end up with a dog who is bored and will go for descruction. I see it, they just walk them a bit. They are born to run! Please run your husky. A garden, no matter how big is NOT enough.
I had a beautiful Rottweiler Siberian husky mix named Cinnamon. She was the best dog I've ever had and got along with people and all animals. She helped raise her little brothers and sisters which were Chihuahuas. Her top size was a little over 100 lbs, and it was funny watching her play with her little sister Chihuahua who weighs 4 lbs.. they would attract a lot of attention at the dog park!
I had my huskey/collie cross and he was protective and loving. My grandkids could use him for a pillow, but let a stranger come near and he was on alert. He lived to be 17 and I miss Rufus every day. I know I can never replace him. All huskeys have a spot in my heart. To have one now I would need a dog walker because I could not keep up.
To help you with the pulling, you need to adapt the harness you have with a hookup on the front. This works miraculously because when the dog pulls, it will turn the dog around to face you stopping the pulling. There are harnesses that have hookups on the back and on the front. To save yourself from a fall, it is worth it for you to look into this solution. Some dog trainers do not like harnesses at all because it encourages pulling, but just putting the hookup on the front will stop the pulling very quickly. I learned this from experience after falling with a face plant in the ground. A big wake up call. I really encourage that checking this out will be a great help to you with your powerful pulling dogs.
My favorite Husky in the entire world is K’eyush the Stunt Dog on UA-cam! He is amazingly smart, adorable and hilarious and makes me smile every day! 🐶❤️
Really cool to see you take the time to understand the breed. My family had adopted a Belgium malinois. I really didn't fall in love with him till i started looking at his previous training and realized how incredibly smart he was. He passed away January 2021 but i still miss him every day.
I'm reading your fan comments. Many say their Huskies pull alot on walks. I recommend a dog walking belt. Alpine Outfitters is where I shop for my Husky girls. A dog walking belt free's your hands & transfers the pulling to your back. I highly recommend a dog walking belt. Kal El is truly gorgeous. My Red Husky Murphey (42 pounds) & her daughter Maya (64 pounds) did the Husky zoomies daily. Murphey was faster, while Maya was much more powerful. We live in a beach town in Southern California. We live right up against Camp Pendleton where it gets quite hilly. Running up the steep hills is actually easier than running down them. Every jogging step I take going down hill I need to put on the brakes with my knees taking all the resistance. At 61 it's getting more difficult. But it's only Huskies for me. I'm happily hooked. Husky walking/jogging belt at Alpine Outfitters.
I have a working husky, she loves cats I have six lol and she walks off leash with a good recall and is no trouble at all and then I have a Dalmation 🤣 shes two and the complete opposite, she’s so loving but the most challenging breeds I’ve ever owned, I’d love to see a video on Dalmatians just to get other peoples experience/tips on the Dalmation breed xx
I am honored to live with my beloved husky. She has never eaten a shoe of mine, nor any furniture and don't triy to run away. She is mostly calm, quiet, friendly to big and small animals and takes good care of me keeping strangers away from home. She is a wonder.
I have a red show Husky. I very much agree with your appraisal. He is very chilled, and I have been fortunate enough to be with him constantly for the last 5 years. I find that his happiness centres around being able to be with his human. If he doesn't have me or another person to keep him company, he can become very upset. His exercise needs are not so great, although we walk 3 times a day and we do weekly adventures to national trust locations. I would say that he is the most intelligent dog I have ever had, but whether he listens to me has always been based on the strength of our bond. He trusts me and cares for me, so he listens to what I say, even in cases where he has a competing interest. This is a big difference from other breeds. I have never felt like I am training my show Husky. I have always felt like I am teaching him, and we are bonding. It's a subtle but important difference. If people don't have the home life to be able to center their world around their dog, I don't think they should consider a show Husky, but if they do, and can make an arrangement to never leave the dog alone, then show Huskies are wonderful partners. A recommendation re pulling: use a collar, not a harness. There is a lot of myth around this subject but the simple mechanics are that if you control the neck, you control the body. My boy doesn't pull if he is on a collar, and he can feel my input more easily. However, if using a collar, one must be careful to predict any bouts of pulling to protect the dogs neck.
I have a husky and I have an Australian cattle dog .The husky will emulate anything the cattle dog does .I would tell anybody if you’re even considering getting a husky you have to work them out at least 4-6 miles a day he loves swimming in my pool no matter the temperature. They are sweet loving dogs and very protective. He’s a bit of an alpha so he’s a hit at dog parks he likes taking charge which I find hilarious.
I said it before and I'll say it again they are just so gorgeous. Like just fluffy gorgeous & that is what gets me so much, it did not realize what they do and then I was like. I can just dream about having one for now. Good... God... I never seen a husky do that much damage.
I've recently bought a show husky pup and I was expecting lots of hard work but he is super smart and easy to work with, thank you for you video it was very informative.
I love the working huskies. They are great fun and in my opinion more beautiful than the showline one you’re showing here. They are trainable but you have to have the right approach like that trainer said. If you’ve got a good relationship with them and they respect you they will listen.
I always wanted a husky, but I ended up with 2 Samoyeds, which are high energy, and need daily hikes and runs, but manageable in the house... unless left alone, lol. I then discovered the Yakutian Laika thanks to your channel. My boy Talan is now a year old, and was an easy puppy to raise. Very wanting to please, although a wild streak. He is more 'wolfish' than my Samoyeds, in that he is very skittish, and has those long wolfy feet and legs. He also had some resource guarding, even as a little puppy. I had to train him with that, and very pleased that he is so good with that now. He wants to please more than my Samoyeds, who are darlings, but more about doing what they want to do before want I want. But can be coaxed with a patience, lol. They get along great, and are very friendly. I love your videos, and have been a long time fan, so looking forward to more of them with your new huskies.
In 1978 I was a kennel manager in a no kill shelter. We had a stray husky female turned in to us from the pound and I fell in love with her. Kima was about 10 months old and had been abused to the point that she had her left femur ball dislocated from her hip socket. She had major surgery and the only time she chewed anything of mine was when I did not take her to work with me the first day after she came home from her operation. My favorite pair of chinese slippers. I carried her down from the third floor apt I lived in, put her in the car and went back to work after my lunch break. It took a full year to get her to trust most men and she hated any male that wore leather hats or clothing. Those were the only men she would snap at. She was so darn smart, loving, house/car protective and most of all loyal. She would circle the yard and make those circles larger until she would get out of my sight but an "I'm watching you" stopped that habit. She chased squirrels, but loved my cats. Since all of us at the shelter brought our dogs to work, she had plenty of dog friends. I would walk along the lake and she would swim the same distance as I walked. She was a water addict that way. I never once had to crate her. I took her every where with me even camping trips. I had her love and trust for 10 years. Best dog I ever had the pleasure to be owned by.
Thanks for a great video! My Swedish show husky is very much like Kal Al, very trainable, do a lot of tricks and we train competitive obedience, she loves toys and treats. She is extremely prey driven and has a tendency to pull on the leash but due to training she walks ok. It’s great to walk with a belt with her in front, she doesn’t stop and sniff - she just wants to move. Not really destructive, my retrievers destroyed more in the house than she has!
My Siberian Husky is beautiful but wants to please so I sometimes have to get my German Shepherd to demonstrate then my husky & my Malamute Wolf will notice & attempt to respond. Thanks to you I becoming a breeder & now have 5 Shepkys pups to train🐾 oh & I absolutely love wolves my Malamute's father passed away a few months back, which was high content wolf as is her mother she has a very tolerant nature but bonds closer with my boy Shepherd then with me or my Husky! Thank you again for your support in teaching us about all the breed's of dog & wolves 🙏
I had been contemplating selecting a Husky until I saw your video. I have always been fascinated by the breed because of their intelligence and their loyalty. It is the most beautiful breed with so many variations. I am and always have been a SUPERMAN fan and you actually selected the name I had for my boy. I am intrigued by your channel and I can’t wait to see more videos especially with Kal-el, he is so beautiful 😻
I have a Siberian called Storm Rothschild. I got him when he was 18 months old, he has the most amazing friendly personally, loves to chill, loves to race around the park at 40 mph and he's my best friend. He's now 7 and still a muppet!!! Enjoyed your video, take care!!
Beautiful dog and wonderful companion as a Shepsky owner people we meet often react differently and either love her or are afraid of her. Videos like yours are informative and entertaining Thank you
Wow, he is amazing! I was blown away how obedient he seems to be and truth to be told a little jealous. My white Swiss shepherd is very well behaved but sometimes I basically have to beg her to do some tricks. On other days she’ll just look at me like “yeah, no. That’s dumb, I’m not doing that” 😂
I love the history aspect of learning about a breed. The bloodhound episode really good! Only two and a half minutes in, and I’m looking forward to see what this one has in store.
I currently have both breeds .. my showline is like a cat independent and chill … my race line is constantly off his meds lol Edit: everything described in this video is accurate lol. Inside vs outside they are totally different dogs
I had a small female with blue eyes and a black bandit mask. She was very playful. I later had a mix of GSD, Siberian Husky and some Wolf. She was amazing with qualities of all three but her coat looked blonde and she had blue eyes. She pulled a lot and had a strong prey drive with the protective instincts of a GSD.
I'm not sure if my boy is show line or working but we rescued him about a year and a half ago. He's pretty mellow inside for the most part but outside he's got more energy than any other dog I've ever seen. I used to have a great Pyrenees and my Siberian pulls harder than he did despite being half the weight
Great video, as always. What a beautiful dog, and a fantastic name, Kal-El! Show line seems to be like my Malamute is the sense that he is quite mellow in the house, but unlike the Mal, he is quite friendly with other dogs. It looks like you have a gem of a new "fur"iend! How wonderful.
Your pup’s mom has working lines…. Her mom is show lines and sire is from a working kennel. I have her brother, your pups uncle. He is an excellent sled dog. Working lines are just as trainable as show or back yard bred dogs. They are incredibly smart dogs who can excel at many things, depends on how much work the owner is willing to put into the dog.
Best dog ever in my honest opinion. I worked with a 3 yr. old Siberian female out in the woods of Washington. They're very trainable if you have patience? She was so damn smart & super sweet too! Yes they are escape artists & predatory when it comes to the other animals in the woods. You'll have a blast with these dogs in the right environment.🐺👍
I love Erika she’s so educated about the breed and gives good honest advice if you need it. It amazes me to see the amazing pictures/ videos she’s able to capture. I adopted my first husky 12 years ago and about 4 years ago I started to look for another. I looked at shelters and breeders and that’s how I ran across Erika. I’m sure I’ll get a puppy from OVShowSiberians one day but I ended up finally getting a puppy from Chamonix Deus in Ukraine last year. I fell in love with their dogs and they had a litter and I was lucky to get the puppy I wanted. She is supper pretty and gets compliments all the time. I was also impressed how friendly and comfortable she got right away. As soon as I picked her up at the airport she greeted us like she knew us all her life. I always recommend adopting dogs in need but if you’re going to look for a breeder make sure it’s a reputable one because they really are worth the money you pay for and you’re able to see it right away.
Thank you for being honest about his 'predatory' instincts! These are animals designed, originally, to survive in the Wild! So when you purchase or come into the possession of a dog, you have to know something about the dog's breed and collectively nature as you learn their PERSONAL nature! Ensure you can give them whatever it is they need. Lease and properly secure your animal to keep THEM safe AND those living around them safe! He's GORGEOUS!
First off, I LOVE your channel, and your furkids! Two of three of my Sibe's are from "show lines" , and I can verify, they love to run with me on my bike, but they are also just as happy playing in their yard or cuddling up for naps, lol
Interestingly enough my Shepsky is A LOT like him. She is weary of strangers like a typical Husky and has a massive prey drive. She however is eager for food or treats above all else making her so easy to train (if she wants to listen). I have a GSD, Malanois Shepherd mix and her. She is the youngest but so very loving and made me fall in love with the mix. Huskies are truly wonderful dogs even with their destructive behavior. Her description of choice is digging out of the garbage bathrooms. She does it to let us know she’s upset or wants attention.
I’ve had 2 husky’s, both were just as gooofy as this boy and pulled hard enough to dislocate my dads elbow and pull me on my skateboard for miles. They are extremely intelligent and Learned all the basic commands when they were puppy’s and even howled “I love you” when yummys were involved. This made me miss them quite a bit. Wonderful Video and I hope you and your dog 🐶 stay happy and healthy.
This video just appeared in my feed and I had to comment that he is the most beautiful animal I have ever seen. I spent a few years as a wildlife photographer and have never seen anything to compare him to.
WOW! I didn't know there were two different types. The show Husky looks very beautiful, but I'm more familiar with the skinnier working Husky that you see sometimes in households as watchdogs with the weird cool blue or grey eyes. I had a chance to see sled dogs when I visited Alaska. They were very different in stature and looked nothing like what I expected. Nothing really Husky in appearance at all.
Most of the sled dogs you saw in alaska were probably alaskan huskies rather than siberian husky. Alaskan huskies can look like the siberian, but mostly they look very different as they are mixes, but is recognised as it's own breed in the us ~
@@umineko3573 Yeah, they were more streamlined. Mixed breeds. They were kept to be used for tourist sledding. Like pulling carts. They were so exciting and ready to go. No I can see why they need the type of exercise that will give them a challenge.
Yep, finally a 100% accurate video on the showroom huskies :) I had one he was stunning and a really good house dog. With the features of the work dog when outside, when we go for walks he was actually going out hunting. If you challenge their mind and body you will get the reward of the life time as they are super smart and super agile the ultimate package for ultimate fun :) They are also really curious and in my case that was the field of mental games which always resulted in a hilarious fun and joy :) You cant fool them twice tho so you have to be creative xD The "got you" face was hands down my favorite expression (they do face expressions as well as voice) That would be when you eat something that he really liked like a waffle and he`d pop up out of nowhere with the gotchya expression expecting to get a piece of the food xD
I've raised my first Alaskan Malamute in the year 2000 , then we got her A friend a Black and White Suberian Husky . I Love huskies Malamutes , Northern Dogs and yes if not exercised they get bored and can get destructive. I Love how they talk, howl , etc.
Anneka, thank for the video. Congratulations on Cal. He is stunning with looks and brawn lol. Will be getting my 2 month old female Husky tomorrow afternoon. Very excited, anxious, but looking forward to it. Planning on enrolling her in doggie day care, 3 times per week as soon as her vaccines are up to date. Been researching the breed for many years and finally getting one. I do have a toy breed that will be her big sister. Therefore, i will have to train her to be gentle from the start. ( Her name will be Winter, with an all white-coat) Getting all her stuff ready before her arrival! Really enjoy your videos, so very informative. Keep them coming! Thank you!
@@Animal-Watch why short legs? one of the great things about huskies are their long legs that just scream energy. and i hope the husky does not get the german shepherd treatment and will not end up with crippling conditions because humans think it looks good.
Speaking of which I had been wondering about the new pup Anneka got. Kal, got it! He was such a beautiful cutie pie as a pup. Now he's a big handsome greyish fluff ball softy. I would love to snuggle with on cold day near a cozy fireplace.
Anneka, on my third Siberian female. The prior two lived 15 and 16 years respectively. Once you have gone Siberian, you just cannot go back. Not only do they love everyone but are always ready to play tricks on you. The high energy level and low tolerance for boredom make them suited only for owners who understand that in advance but if you do, there is no better companion. Useless as watch dogs, so you'll have to invest in security cameras instead, they provide such a level of entertainment that the TV becomes optional. Nice to find someone nearby who also loves all things husky and wolf. Do you ever do Ireland or just stay in the UK? Would be nice to have a local AW group but have not heard of one. With the pandemic ending, want to finally visit that wolf sanctuary you mentioned awhile back.
A few years ago I adopted my husky at 7 years old (she’s 11 now) and I would taker her everyday to a little community park around my area where a lot of people would get together with their dogs and just converse. I remember there was this guy that had two very big huskies and he would always make these comments as if he was trying to make me recognize that my husky wasn’t actually a husky. “She has to be mixed with something cause she’s to small”, “yeah she’s mixed cause her eyes aren’t blue”, “she’s probably mixed with a Shiba”. I always ignored him. However one day this lady that was passing by came up to us and said “what a beautiful husky” I said thank you and she preceded to inspect her a little more and she asked if I was planing on breeding her? I said no, to which she replied “you know a lot of people would pay a lot of money to own a show husky?” I was like wUh? And she in that moment while that guy was there! Proceeded to tell us that my husky was actually the type of husky that is used for FREAKING DOG SHOWS! I have no idea who she was but she was reeeeeeeally trying to convince me to breed my girl cause she really wanted one of her puppies. That guy got so butt hurt and so embarrassed he started going to the park when I would normally leave. That was so awesome and this video just confirms everything that lady said was true! Hell yeah!
haah that's awesome. That guy sounded really annoying. People get proud of their dogs but some take it too far and this guy sounded jealous to keep on like that.
*THEY TRULY ARE GORGEOUS DOGS AND SMART AS A WHIP AND LOVABLE!!* *IT'S WONDERFUL TO SEE THEM WELL TAKEN CARE OF AND NOT ABUSED!!* *THANKS FOR SHARING!! ;-)*
The key to quelling prey drive in a husky is to start training around small animals at 6 weeks. My husky Jake is friends with my 3 cats and all the cats in our neighborhood. He even helped to raise 2 baby opossums. Amazing dogs.
@@PhoenixGenesis experts all over the world say you should never take a pup away from its mother 8-10 weeks with a different conditions for wolf dogs. What makes you think your advice is better than theirs. Are you Einstein’s cousin ?
@@TheHuskyAngel Firstly, Einstein was a patent thief and shill, so not related. We train our personal service dogs as 6 weeks as explained and you can see the results on my channel fir the last 6 plus years. Peace.
@@PhoenixGenesis so you might be part of the 1% that it works for. But it’s shitty advice for the 99% of dog owners who listen to idiots online. I was ironically asking are you a genius that knows better than vets and dog trainers. But clearly you’re an expert
It’s all about how you train them and steps breeder took prior to homing. I have a working line that is off leash trained and very calm temperament and has always been calm
I have watched a number of your posts and your enthusiasm and infectiousness for these animals is wonderful. Indeed I have learned much about the wolf dog, a breed I am very interested in. Please keep your posts coming, excellent.
Got my 1st husky im 1999, Grizzly lead to many many school show and tells. And me to help the rescue huskys and mallys. Sabrina(named by RSPCA) is a playful witch, destruction was her favourite game. She really needed training and most people have no patience or idea how tp train a dog. Let alone a husky. Sabrina is now trained( along with Zorro my mally) and helped me train/rescue others over the last 10years
It was interesting that you noticed Kal-El Was much more responsive when called and made a lot of eye contact. That is exactly the biggest difference between my two rescued huskies. Lucy my first dog is a Samoyed german shepherd cross and she is looks at you immediately when you call her name and just likes to watch you for no real reason. She just likes to keep track of you. She is very responsive. Our second husky we haven't had genetically tested yet but I think she is an American Husky we call Mikka. I think she may have been bred for racing but she is 3 legged which would probably be the reason she was abandoned. Lucy is so loving but Mikka is the clown. When you call Mikka she will initially look at you briefly then sit and have a little think on it and then go do her own thing or she may listen. She is definitely an independent thinker. She is much more playful than Lucy and does not respond immediately all the time yet still trains well when you have some good treats and keeps you guessing about what is going on in her head. You can see how intelligent she is by how she very deliberately she learns to navigate her world with her "handicap" with the mindset of a working husky.
I had one. VERY illegal in Alaska. She was the most gentle creature I ever met. Going to be frank with you. Being a hybrid, first organs to fail will be adrenal and thyroid glands. Hair falls off and none have been known to live past 10 years, so love her to death. I used sticks of butter for treats and whole pink salmon. Jenna weighed 240 pounds. My kids were so safe with her she let them ride her like a pony.
Huskies are definitely not for everyone. I got Eros from a friend who had him for 3 days and quickly realized that she did not have the time, energy or knowledge to give him a good home. I highly recommend a gps collar for husky’s. It doesn’t matter how well you think you’ve got them trained, there will be a point where the temptation to chase a deer is too much and you will find them 2 hours later still running. Our collar has several correction modes and bright led lights for nighttime safety. I only have to use the vibration function on the collar to break his focus away from any deer or antelope in our yard and he really loves being able to run and play with the other dog unrestrained.
Show dogs are a better choice unless you have an active life that the dog can partake in, or if you need it for a specific purpose (guard dog, etc.). I got a show line golden. I give her 3 sessions of a total of 50 to 70 minutes of exercise, with about 10 minutes of training worked into it daily (20 minutes in a.m. - 10 minute walk followed by 10 minutes fetch; 20 minutes at the dog park in the late afternoon; in the pm 10 minutes training followed by a 10 minute wrestle, walk or fetch depending, I increase, decrease time depending on schedule). She is playful, rambunctious, friendly and smart, like a golden yet she is also more mellow (still like a golden in that she wants to be around you/people as much as she can) and although can be destructive, it doesn't take a lot of time, just consistency with giving her exercise to prevent destructive behavior. She even still has her prey drive, which is good because I do go out into the field, but between work, and family, I can't go out all day, yet I can squeeze in weekend mornings during the season. I had to put some time into learning how to stimulate her mind and training, but it has been worth it.
My Nanook has jumped and killed two birds in his 13 years and at the same time would love our kitten to a full grown 10 year cat daily. Nanook truly loved and was so gentle with Thorne, our orange Tabby. He was the smartest Husky any trainer had ever seen. Sadly Nanook Was poisoned by my neighbors,The guys wife conveyed to me that in Mexico her husband had done that before but when she asked him about it he denied. RIP Nanook 4/19/2024.😞 I’d like to edit that Nanook knew over 9 ASL commands, was full blood and loved to run! We road bikes with Nanook from the beginning and i swear he’d run at 38 mph for a half a mile at a time. He started hopping our 6’ fence twice, and ran to his hearts freedoms consent! I would go looking for him and the first time he went around the corner and somehow got in the yard of a Boxer in their back fenced in yard and they called me from his tag. That first ever time he then followed my son home. The next time he was in a completely different neighborhood in a matter of minutes! The second i found him he ran to me whining uncontrollably and he just followed me with no leash home. All i can say is that Nanook was one of a kind, supra ,Ultra smart! Loving and as human as a K9 could ever be! It’s been a few months since Nanook past and it’s just myself and Thorne. I’m pretty much lost without him.😞Right now i have dibs on a female or a male Sib that’s only 3 weeks old and can get him or her at 8 weeks. Shoukd i get a female Sib or a male again? I really need help deciding which at this point in my life i should enter into our family!? Any advice or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Ultra
My Nikita is of the show dog .After watching this I can now understand why people think she smaller breed of a husky. She is a well-trained,On and off-leash she will walk next to me and when she wearing her vest she is 100% focused on me. I will say that I can control her prey instients well and she will sit off-leash and not go after the pery. She is able and will stay on command and not be distracted easy unless i let her be. But I do agree that it mostly from her being with me all the time,She goes to work with me and I run a cae wash and she will stay with me . She was a rescue from Phenix AZ at 8mo old no training at all. Now at 4 she is so well behaved enough for me to leave her in the back of my truck unleashed as I go into the store . But! yes, it is a lot of work getting her to this point as they need lots of work .....but if you have the time to do so then you will have one of the best dogs around!
Good result then. Id hate to have either of my two taken for protecting me.I hope he got treats for that.😁
Did you find out how much wolf is in him?
@@LittleDfan he is 36% wolf 27% husky 31% GSD and the rest falls under "other"
They are not for everyone but if you are one of the lucky ones who have what it takes you can not get a better companion. I've had several and they are my favorite dogs.
Best breed in the world. Beautiful and smart.
THEY HAVE SLANTY EYES...THATS WHY THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL.
I had Chow Chows...
I have four huskies with each their personalities. They are the most funniest and best companions I ever had.
@@VOLCAL what does slanty mean
Mine too . Love huskies vocals.
My Kimka, may he rest in peace like the prince he was, would always say woo woo woo woo woo. He could always make me laugh. Just so incredible.
❤❤❤
I love that you can carry on a conversation with one. They are so much fun.
I love their names. ☺️
They are definitely energetic and loveable. They like to talk back, reason out, communicate with you. You have to have 💯 % patience in having a husky . They need time and attention. They are intelligent but playful creatures❤️☺️
Amen Milo, my daughter has four of them Huskies. They all talk and want to be heard and listened to. Gifts from God they are.
I agree, very trainable.
I was heart broken when my Maya passed on. Still cant bring myself to get another. She is irreplaceable.
And Kal is gorgeous.
He's a looker, I had two about 20 yrs ago. Sister's and they were like him. One of the best dogs I ever had. Sweet girls and very trainable and loving. Neither had that prey drive in them tho , more laid back and loving
But I kept them well worked.
They are beautiful and friendly but it's a shame to never consider any other types of animal. All have pros and cons.
Tank tops, lol. Watching her run was the highlight of the video.
They're one-up on us.
oh yes, point right on!! 😂❤️
if there were a canine version of Super Heroes; the Siberian Husky is the Joker....pure charisma and chaos
The quarterback analogy could not be more spot on 😂
I wish more people would watch videos like this on dog breeds before getting one just because they like the way they look.
Yea Well... maybe YOU should've watched some videos before getting a torment breeding dog. :)
I just got a husky as a gift , he’s 8 weeks old . In 5 days I had him he’s learned how to use the doggie door, sit for a treat and stay . He is good as a 8 week old puppy can be with two Chihuahuas.
When I saw that ruined couch, I just smiled and thought that it wasn't just me
I loved your show this was absolutely amazing I learned so much thank you so much for sharing
Love ❤️ the name of your husky
so your German Shepherd "brings order to Chaos" huh?

I’m now on my second Husky and they are simply the best dogs ever.
Fantastic and very interesting video Anneka! Siberian husky is wonderful breed and Kal-el is simply awesome! Thank you very much for sharing 👍👍👍🙏🙏❤😍🐺
My favorite Husky in the entire world is K’eyush the Stunt Dog on UA-cam! He is amazingly smart, adorable and hilarious and makes me smile every day! 🐶❤️
My Malamute is almost elegant in how gentle she is in taking treats and licking me every morning when she wakes up.
Yes I use a walking belt a lot, but mainly as I have a lot of dogs and like to take photos of them on my phone as I walk 🙌
@@Animal-Watch Yes, I was giving a little advice to your many followers.
And what an absolutely beautiful canine being - thank you so much for providing this!!
That is one of the most beautiful dogs i have ever seen.
Seems like a lovely companion.
When I came to the USA to go to college, Austin UT, my parents gave me a Siberian Husky. I had him for 12 years, he was the best dog I ever had!
Brilliant introduction as usual. Thanks Anneka!
Beautiful dog and wonderful companion as a Shepsky owner people we meet often react differently and either love her or are afraid of her. Videos like yours are informative and entertaining
Thank you
Wow, he is amazing!
Hi Anneka! Kal is a super cuddy, adorable wolfie boy! A pleasure to see him here with you. :) Johnny
I currently have both breeds .. my showline is like a cat independent and chill … my race line is constantly off his meds lol
Edit: everything described in this video is accurate lol. Inside vs outside they are totally different dogs
One of the most beautiful huskies I've ever seen, wow, priceless
Anneka looks amazing as always with her new supermodel pup
I have a Goberian, He's a working Husky X Retriever and he is an AMAZING dog. But surprisingly lazy! And just the sweetest boy!
Kal is an absolute beauty!! Love him ❤️
I love Erika she’s so educated about the breed and gives good honest advice if you need it.
Her photography is amazing 😲
Thank you for being honest about his 'predatory' instincts! These are animals designed, originally, to survive in the Wild! So when you purchase or come into the possession of a dog, you have to know something about the dog's breed and collectively nature as you learn their PERSONAL nature! Ensure you can give them whatever it is they need. Lease and properly secure your animal to keep THEM safe AND those living around them safe! He's GORGEOUS!
Wow! What a beautiful, beautiful dog is Kal!
They are extremely intelligent and
Learned all the basic commands when they were puppy’s and even howled “I love you” when yummys were involved. This made me miss them quite a bit. Wonderful
Video and I hope you and your dog 🐶 stay happy and healthy.
husky the best neighbor I use to have handsome, caring playful, cheerful, and affectionate. wonderful memories I still have of him
This video just appeared in my feed and I had to comment that he is the most beautiful animal I have ever seen. I spent a few years as a wildlife photographer and have never seen anything to compare him to.
Huskies are a Great Dog.
They do require alot of exercise and training.
They are very Beautiful.
This dog is amazing! I have a working line and they love keeping active and they have lots of energy!
The huskies in alaska are actually working dogs. They are probably more fit, bulkier stature
Fascinating study on huskies. I guess the sled dog is tapping into their "pack hunting" instincts where they would normally run a lot to catch prey.
I don't know who more striking you or your beautiful husky , you make a good pair ! Many days of happiness are in store 💕
Thank you!
❤️❤️❤️🥰 Thankyou and good luck with the new puppa xx
@@Animal-Watch You got a superman dog nice ^^ I had a big dog myself growing up a Great Dane dalmation Mix named Hotei
@@Animal-Watch
why short legs? one of the great things about huskies are their long legs that just scream energy.
and i hope the husky does not get the german shepherd treatment and will not end up with crippling conditions because humans think it looks good.
@@Animal-Watch but not gona lie they are cute.
As a former Husky owner I enjoy this video. Compliments and well done😊
An off leash husky is probably the most beautiful thing a person can experience. I mostly do off leash away from people, in the woods while hiking.
……. Nobody should have puppies before 8 weeks……..
@@TheHuskyAngel I adamantly disagree. My 6 week old puppy turned into an extremely loving, trained and healthy 8 month old puppy.
Amazing, love to watch your videos ❤️❤️
Sabrina is now trained( along with Zorro my mally) and helped me train/rescue others over the last 10years
Kal El is indeed BEAUUU-TI-FUL😍
I'm sure show husky still has lots of endurance and working pedigree. Maybe just not quite to same level of Huskey in Siberia pulling sled everyday
What a gorgeous dog. He sure looks like a model! He is also a very loving dog just by the way he likes to cuddle up with you.
Incredible, just incredible! What a beautiful creature!
I have always been gifted with a White Blue eyed Husky/Wolf cross, or full silver golden eyed wolf! I love them ❤
Huskies are definitely not for everyone.
RIP Nanook 4/19/2024.😞
I’d like to edit that Nanook knew over 9 ASL commands, was full blood and loved to run!
