It’s a heart thing! God wants us to be prudent but he wants us to store up out of wisdom not out of self preservation or greed. The man in the parable was selfish. Instead of being generous and giving the extra grain away since he already had enough he decided to go out his way to keep it all.
@@BetweenTheWallsPodwhen Johnathan said about giving to the level you feel something it reminded of the David buying the field when he said he’s not gonna give to God what cost him nothing!
This was such a good topic especially around this time of the year. I’ve been reading Luke this month (1 chapter per day to be done by Christmas Eve). And I really had to examine my own self when reading this same chapter last week because it may seem harder to give especially during seasons of uncertainty. But like y’all mentioned, these are the times when your faith is really challenged and we’re able to see if we truly trust God like we think/say we do. There is a saying that my church uses that speaks to giving out of our need rather than only giving when we have excess: “if it doesn’t meet the need, then it must be a seed.” And I will be the first to admit that I’m still working on this, lol. I’ve been reminding myself that God provides not because I’m worthy but because he’s faithful so I don’t need to worry. Great discussion!
I am an uber giver! Have been since childhood! My parents used to fuss at me for giving my nicest clothes to my neighborhood bff when I was 9. My nicest dresses, shoes etc, 1 year after I was gifted them for Xmas or whatever. My parents scolded me all the time.😂. It became toxic as I became an adult and gave more to those who were more needy than me and couldn’t pay my bills. I finally learned balance but still struggle with the urge. I was truly blessed with having all I needed and wanted. I never understood my parents scolding me when they did similar to a lesser degree in their lives. This has been my double edge sword. Now, as a successful adult, many of my family and friends come to me knowing I’m a giver and my hubby calls me a living ATM. I argue that I live well below my means and have it to give. My grandmother always told me that blessing others is doing God’s work. I so struggle with this at my age.
From the experience of living paycheck to paycheck and still giving, I’ve noticed that it becomes easier to give more when God increased my income because I have proof of God continuously provided. I always had exactly what I needed when I needed it. ♥️ God is good! Thank yall for talking about this I pray it pushes others to give 10% and beyond!
This is a great conversation! For me, I think the bottom line is obedience. Give when God tells you to give. Sow when He tells you to sow. Every instance of giving is a sacrifice of obedience. The bible says, "Give and it shall be given unto you. Pressed down, shaken together, and running over shall men give unto your bosom." So our obedience in giving will cause God to have others give to us. And it's not always monetary either. Seeds can be sown for health or the salvation of those you love! There's so much that giving can do for you outside of financial gain. And God also wants us to have the desires of our heart as well. That will also come through obedience! Love you guys!
This is soo good and right on time ! “ Give because you’re supposed to give , and giving makes you more like Jesus “was what I needed. ❤ also what translation was Jess reading from ? I loved how the verses you both used were worded
Hello! I love the podcast as always! I am only through the first 15 minutes of the podcast where yall are talking about giving and this made me think about a recent quote that has been going around online from Denzel Washington. I believe he said "For the first third of your life you learn, the next third you earn, and in the last third you return" (feel free to fact check me on that lol). I know this is not exactly what yall where talking about but I think this is a great quote for people to keep in mind and I figured I should share it with yall!
Using wisdom when it comes to giving is key, and whose u r giving to. Sometime when we give, we can be giving to unidentified or unknown angel, just testing you

Yep. We give to be a blessing NOT to get blessed but God is so good He blesses us anyways. It’s definitely a mindset of knowing that when we give sacrifically (monetary or not) that God will make up the difference if we’re coming from a pure heart
I was just on someone's TikTok live. a viewer came in the chat asking the host for $20 so should could get her kids a pizza. the host said they didn't have any money on their cash app (which I think is stupid bc isn't your bank account linked to cash app??) but anyway! I felt moved to help her so I offered to send her $5 out of my rent money and then a couple other ppl did too. I hope it helped her. I hate to see ppl going hungry!!! we're all we got fr! it's just crazy that Johnathan mentioned (35:44) exactly $5 which is what I had. crazy!!! ❤
““Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:2-4 ESV
I’d love to know Jonathan’s thought on those that tithe 10% regularly to community programs or non profit foundations that serve the greater good. These are not necessarily tithes to a particular church but help those organizations serve the community. Are those people not following God’s will? How do you feel about Pastors or flock leaders who have said publicly that God wanted them to have the mansion, jet plane or expensive car? That is one thing I struggle with when it comes to tithing. I ain’t gon lie… I give more to projects line St Jude Children’s Hospital, Wounded Warriors, ASPC. The list goes on and on. My accountant tells me I’m giving away too much that I’m not in balance come tax season!🤷🏽♀️
That’s a great question, I’d definitely say go with God. Asking him what he thinks. It’s going to be different for everyone. And as far as the pastors thing, I don’t really understand the lavish lifestyle thing but I won’t judge generally, cause only God knows hearts. Idk if that sounds like a cop out

Hi Jess, I heard you say you give 10%. I have struggled for years to think about giving full 10% 😂😂. Not because it's a lot but because as an African with black tax to give , I think to myself that I could use that for something else😂. I love God and wish to give full 10% but i still can't. I always give what my heart feels okay to.
Tithing is the obedience of obeying God, nothing to do with the Pastors and if any leader of the church takes the offering/tithes or any money that belongs to the church and do anything else that they shouldn't do God would definitely deal with them.
So my thing is build up ur treasure heavenly. Why build a bigger barn so hold more stuff (earthly) according to the scripture. When we have the poor to give you
I believe this podcast episode is confirmation because God has been talking to me about this recently. A good book📖 that helped me in the past that I'm now rereading is Money and Possessions: The Quest for Contentment by Kay Arthur🔥. It will definitely put things in perspective!
