It's kind of a tough one though because he already has probable cause to search the truck so the question is kind of moot. Weather he says yes or no, the evidence is what will incriminate him. Also, during an investigation there is no law that says the police have to tell you your rights.

It also gives the civilian a chance to come out with it, and very often the police do go lighter on the tickets when there is honesty. You do have to read them their rights when they have been arrested. He was initially just detained, which isn't arrest, but they have to detain you when your under suspicion of something, because people like to run when the cops go to investigate.

The cop asked me to recite the alphabet from F to T which I did with alphanumeric call signs (I did air traffic control in the NAVY). Told the cop I could do it backwards just as well and he said "Sure, go for it". Recited it perfectly backwards and he just said have a nice evening :)

It's kind of a tough one though because he already has probable cause to search the truck so the question is kind of moot. Weather he says yes or no, the evidence is what will incriminate him. Also, during an investigation there is no law that says the police have to tell you your rights.

It also gives the civilian a chance to come out with it, and very often the police do go lighter on the tickets when there is honesty. You do have to read them their rights when they have been arrested. He was initially just detained, which isn't arrest, but they have to detain you when your under suspicion of something, because people like to run when the cops go to investigate.

@@standepain There are other tests they can give. Been pulled over once for suspected DUI. I had been drinking, but only 2 beers over 6+ hours and felt 100% sober. The cop asked me to recite the alphabet from F to T which I did with alphanumeric call signs (I did air traffic control in the NAVY). Told the cop I could do it backwards just as well and he said "Sure, go for it". Recited it perfectly backwards and he just said have a nice evening :)
