Orchids are amazing! Last October I went hiking and found a blooming orchid on the peak. The mount itself is dense and covered with mossy trees, foggy, low sunlight, no wonder orchids could be found there.
One day an orchid grew that slightly resembled something else, that something else liked it and favored that one slightly more, causing it to have more offspring and that kept happening until it was mimicking the thing
I love orchids but living in a city it's really hard to mantain and let it grow wildly. Didn't know their mimicking capabilities. Makes me even love it more.

One day an adventurer's going to have to carefully tell their friend that the sexy chick they picked up in the forest ain't no chick...she's not even a mammal.

I thought orchids were just really pretty flowers that were tough to grow, like roses. I didn't know they relied on fungus to even grow, or that they mimicked anything. I'd like if you would talk about coral cactus. I picked a few up for a school project and I found out through extra research at home that they're not actually cactus. I don't know what happened to them, but they all died. I haven't owned a plant since :')
Amazing! I didn't know orchids were this level of fascinating and special. Can you please talk about "shape shifting" plants like Boquila trifoliolata? or about the fungi from the genus Cyttaria? or about the parasitic plants of genus Tristerix, like Tristerix corymbosum?
I read a sci fi short story where a human analogue species evolved with an orchid analogue species. The orchid flower mimicked the female human. Surprisingly the human population was quite low. Anyway, a wayward space traveller landed on this world, discovered the unusual properties of the orchids, took some samples, went back to civilization and bred varieties that mimicked famous women of history, like Cleopatra. He became quite rich.
This was very fascinating and extremely informative! I've always been into botany as something as an artistic expression among non-scientific circles. I would very much like to see more of Floralogic!
That orchid in 1:01 is weirdly called Kandyan Dancer Orchid in my home country of Sri Lanka, mainly because it looks like it has the silhouette of a Kandyan dancer. I wonder what type of insects or people this orchid attracts.
Could you cover ant plants? The incredibly developed mutualism between the epiphytic plants and ant colonies to the point where many of the plants grow the ant colony inside (domatia) is fascinating. Cross sections of these domatia are beautiful too, like the Myrmecodia for example.
I really like your Botany videos :). It's really interesting because plants are almost just as interesting as animals when you dig deeper into their adaptations and evolution.
So... they catfish bugs to spread pollen..

Every time “every continent except Antarctica” is said, Antarctica frowns.
Antarctica is mostly a frozen wasteland with a little bit of tiny green stuff growing near the farthest coroners. Not much can handle Antarctica.

So...how does one mimic someone else's looks without SEEING them??

Orchids with mutations that mimicked bugs proliferated more than those without, and over time it was just survival of the fittest
