Glad someone else saw not only the parallel with Willy Wonka, but Roger Rabbit! :D
You were a touch hard on poor Sans. He's just different in how he expresses his enjoyment. I mean, if it was Maud or Mud Briar, it would just be accepted. Maybe that's why Pinkie was so good with him. This could have even been a map episode.

I suppose I was at first. I just wondered how someone as straight-laced and deadpan as him fit in at a factory meant for jokes and gags. I wondered if his analytical mindset was part of the problem, but it wasn’t, really, and I’m glad he’s a genuinely nice guy who wants the best for Cheese and the factory.

Cheese Sandwich isn't himself without snickers. Or some chortle or giggles or a few good laughs or any combo of the above mentioned. It's so cute that Pinkie once again helps Cheese see what he's meant to do and how to do it. Another fun commentary for the books. /)

22:32 - You see Sans? It's not so hard after all... ^_^ And on that note, it's good to have you back, Cheese! Happiness isn't something that should be observed from afar; it has to be witnessed first-hoof to happen.
24:39 - huh, I guess Applejack *_and_* Pinkie Pie are the same after all: they don't need anything fancy to bring purpose to their lives...they're content just the way they are, being *WHO* they are! For Applejack, it's about running and preserving the livelihood of the Apple family, and now for Pinkie, it's about many as many ponies as she can, laugh and know that *SHE'S* the one bringing them that happiness!
30:42 to 31:10 - ...damn, TPrower...nice. You summed up Pinkie Pie perfectly. Her heart is so huge and full of love, just like Fluttershy's, and she *lives* to make ponies happy, because it makes *HER* happy. Good Feels Good indeed. ^_^

To this point in time, I still remembered that Weird Al would return to voice Cheese Sandwich if the MLP staff/Hasbro would ask. When I realized that he’d make a comeback in this, I was ecstatic because I awaited the day to see Cheese in person again. This episode was interesting and fun in my opinion, some laughable moments here and there and an interesting plot behind it. Not as strong as “Pinkie Pride,” but I cannot complain with this one.

  • @michaelespinoza432

I don’t know why it keeps taking me so long to see myself in some of these characters, but better late than never.
It only occurred to me today that I can identify with Cheese Sandwich in this episode. I’ve always loved to draw, and especially to tell stories with my drawings, but lately I’m running dry, and it’s frustrating. I want to create things.
And I can definitely understand needing audience feedback. Even when I love my output (and I’m my own biggest critic), I never know how it will go over with someone else, so I don’t feel like I know what I’m doing.

10:58 - laughter can't be measured or analyzed with numbers and statistics. It just has to...happen. :(
15:38 - you know, now I've figured out what Sans' role is in all this: he's the Comically Serious. He understands at least what makes jokes funny and sees the humor in them, he just treats them clinically. And wow, they quoted word for word the trope "Rule of Three"!
    17:12 - like I said, Comically Serious. :/

Good to see both you and the show back again. Been looking forward to this since the hiatus began and it did not disappoint. An interesting insight into how Pinkie sees herself (and makes me wonder what exactly she'll be doing come the end of the show) coupled up with a fantastic return for Cheese and a solid episode. Here's hoping the momentum keeps up!

Can't believe I forgot to leave this comment. But I actually really like some of the jokes around Sans Smirk's character design. For starters, his name is literally Sans Smirk, as in without smirk. Bit of a more clever on the nose naming for this show (if only because sans has become more known for the font and pun loving skeleton). And of course the fact that his cutie mark is an actual wet blanket.

8:16 - indeed so! Who'd have thought that underneath her silly exterior, is a *very* intelligent, creative mare? But then, she *IS* the Element of Laughter for a reason.
But that does raise a serious question, regarding the cold opening, it's true that all of the Mane Six except for the Earth ponies have fulfilled their life's ambition: becoming a princess (Season 3), opening a Canterlot boutique (5), becoming a Wonderbolt (6) and opening an animal sanctuary (7).
Applejack I can see being forever content with just running the Apple Family farm, But Pinkie? Yeah, maybe she wants to expand her influence of spreading humor and laughter all over Equestria and not just Ponyville. And who else to better to consult her on that then Cheese Sandwich himself, her spiritual protege?

And, time to do another reaction (and I hope that I'll eventually catch up before the finale).
(1:39) Considering that this is the final season, they're probably scrambling to give all of the mane 6 their last dedicated episode. So for Pinkie, this is...the last dance: ua-cam.com/video/vqZY8P42pLo/v-deo.html (especially at 1:34)
(2:15) I know Pinkie's the queen of comedy, but that part reminds me of an episode of "The New 3 Stooges" (ua-cam.com/video/826HgL-6cr4/v-deo.html) Most particularely the segment at 6:02
(2:38) So, instead of the Golden Ticket song, we better use this: ua-cam.com/video/MRJILK3NxSM/v-deo.html
I get the feeling I'm going to use a LOT of clips in this comment.
(3:52) "Still better than Sugar Belle's muffins."
(5:02) "It might not be edible, but it is still GOOD!" I won't give any example just in case you've eaten already.
(5:23) "Up the airy mountain, down the rushy glen, we daren't go a hunting, for fear of little men. You see, nobody ever goes in... and nobody ever comes out. "
(5:57) OK. I know Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was mostly shot in Germany, but you didn't had to make it's pony counterpart so dull and gray.
(6:27) You could try, you know, tumble and do a forward roll at the end of the carpet. It always works.
(6:36) That's a bit more obvious when you know that "sans" in French means "without" (and yes, French is my first language).
(7:23) I'd say he's in a dire need of a serious dose of laughs.
(9:03) So...what's your job here, Sans Smirk? "Nuts."
(9:36) Cheese? Since when did you start parodying Benedict Cumberbatch?
(9:59) And you suddenly started dressing like Steve Jobs!
(10:45) That, and mounting them on a fake camera (ua-cam.com/video/I3Rp2964guM/v-deo.html at 30:00)
(14:37) Eugh! This is even creepier than Steven Seagal's smile.
(15:16) Yeah, but a comedian who laughs at his own jokes isn't exactly a good sign (or a sign of a good comedian).
(16:37) "You see, doctor. I AM Pagliacci"
(17:54) "And I'll never be able to finish the Everlasting Bellylaugher. My life's work."
(19:37) This guy really REALLY needs a vacation at the beach.
(20:05) You could say, that it was an Inspector Clouseau moment: ua-cam.com/video/jEcq4tuBzn4/v-deo.html (at 0:24)
(21:06) And speaking of Clouseau and his disguises: ua-cam.com/video/0pN7nmzuvNc/v-deo.html
(22:57) And Cheese ended up creating these: ua-cam.com/video/IMFha1nmeXc/v-deo.html
(24:22) "Oh, he did try to leave with style. Problem was...that was his vehicle: ua-cam.com/video/FEFfISdA8LQ/v-deo.html
"Eh. He probably liked it that way anyway."
(24:54) PINKIIIIIIE!!!! YOU AND YOUR INFERNAL HIDDEN CANONS!!!!
Cute and funny episode. Ah, and with Weird Al too. Not much else to say.

      All righty. =)
      1. Seems that way. I don’t think I’ve heard that song before.
      2. Pffft, I’ve seen that clip, and I see what you mean.
      3. No complaints here. =)
      4. Her equality muffins, anyway.
      5. I dare not ask, lol
      6. The Wonka is strong with this episode
      7. And it was like that when Cheese and Sans first got it. Seems like an intentional design choice.
      8. It’s a real crowd-pleaser. Shows you know how to subvert expectations.
      9. Neat! I just find a bit odd how they alternate how it’s pronounced, especially by Pinkie at the end, suddenly switching it.
      10. Show him a Try Not to Laugh compilation. Even the most steadfast crack eventually, lol
      11. I’ll take Sans over Mr. Salt any day.
      12. Sherlock Holmes, I’m guessing?
      13. I’ve heard others reference Steve Jobs with this one, but I missed it, lol
      14. As an ophidiophobe, that’d get a jump out of me in real life.
      15. I’ve heard that, too.
      16. Reminds me of a Rocky and Bullwinkle story when Bullwinkle’s bunion could predict the weather, to the point where even the weatherman called for a forecast.
      17. Makes me wonder if Cheese and Sans would have their own Slugworth trying to steal ideas.
      18. Right stat now.
      19. The power of malapropism, lol
      20. Pfft.
      21. Heh, I’d try one, but I’d have to make sure there aren’t any dogs around.
      22. Pfft. That’s one way to make an exit.
      23. Not her fault she can’t remember where she hid them all. =P
An enjoyable episode with a great lesson, and I was so glad to see Weird Al return. =)

I’ve heard others commenting on how good it is that Sans Smirk is not like Svengallop was in “The Mane Attraction”, and I agree. I prefer it this way, with him not intentionally or even knowingly causing harm, and genuinely caring about Cheese and believing in what the factory stands for.
I also like to think that maybe it’s precisely because Sans isn’t much of a laugher that he got into gags: he wants to know what makes something funny, and increase its humor as much as possible, because he wants to laugh himself but doesn’t know how-until Cheese makes his “cracked up” joke.
But what if Svengallop had been like Sans Smirk here? What if, instead of changing who Rara was, and exploiting her to get what he wanted, the harm he caused her was unintentional and unconscious on his part? What if he genuinely cared about her welfare and believed in her, and was just trying to do what he thought would help?
Granted, then it might be hard to justify the “Lady Gaga” reference, but I wonder what that might have looked like?

      1. 1:41 "Let's jump right into season 9, episode 14, *The Last Laugh.* First 'The Last Crusade' and now this?
As Twilight would say, they're not pulling any punches with those names, are they?
      2. 2:39 "No. Freakin'. Way!"
      ua-cam.com/video/Sp67K_Sqd-8/v-deo.html
      3. 3:42 Pinkie: "...Applejack has that hat..."
And about twenty more just like it. :)
      4. 5:55 Pinkie: "Ooh, desolate-y!"
TPrower: "Well that's one word for it."
      A made-up word, Pinkie's favorite kind!
      5. 6:23 Sans: "Let's try taking the nostril flare down 10%."
I don't think any stallion would be happy to hear that the scale of his flare is being reduced. ;)
      6. 7:32 "The squirting flower, classic!"
[Are we on the same wavelength, Pinks?]
Well it is Andrea, so I could certainly understand that.
      7. 10:01 "Lost your laugh?! Oh Cheese, what's happened to you?"
I suspect Hasbro's legal department. Those guys are experts at sucking the fun out of things. :)
      8. 16:33 When Pinkie mentioned "surrealist alt-(teen?) character pieces"... was that a picture of Anon she threw behind her???
      9. 22:19 Making a character named Sans laugh with a pun...
That is just too perfect, and I think you know why.
      10. 30:16 "Pinkie's realized she doesn't need a grandiose end goal to aspire to in order to feel accomplished."
I think this was a moral that a lot of people needed to hear. Many folks tend to confuse success with purpose, and that misconception can cause people to strive for things that won't actually make them feel fulfilled.

      1. Certainly not, and you even used that clip yourself, lol
      2. My dad showed me Bill and Ted for the first time some time ago. It was pretty funny, as was the sequel, lol
      3. Can never be too careful, lol
      4. If it sounds silly, it's worth saying in her book. =P
      5. Good grief.
      6. Heh
      7. Pfft.
      8. Not sure, lol
      9. I do indeed, lol
      10. A very mature and realistic moral. I'd expect nothing less from this show, after what it's been teaching us. =)
