You know what? I think I found the perfect line to sum up how I, and *so many other* blind reactors felt at 16:49 . It's from the ending of "Kill Bill vol. 2" "Naaah, you're not a bad pony. You're a _terrific_ pony, you're one of my favorite ponies... But every once in a while... *__* ...you can be a real c---."
This episode, while not great, is still pretty decent, and it's definitely not the weakest of the season so far. Light Hoof and Shimmy Shake are adorable
This wasn't as bad as non-complete clause I wasn't yelling at my computer screen Also Gallus as a cheerleader I need to see that also thanks for the mention he's my boy!
Gotta admit I was pretty ticked off at Rainbow's attitude during most of the episode, thankfully my second fave dragon Smolder (Spike will always be my first) gave her quite the kick in the flank she needed. Seeing the cheer squad come together at the game was awesome, I totally enjoyed it! =D Pretty decent episode in my opinion & a good lesson regardless.
@@StarrPower2232 Must be higher than yours since you just called a 0 the dragon that saved her life multiple times in Gauntlet Of Fire. To each their own I guess.
Snips might be money grubbing but at least he sells good quality merch instead cheap crap and doesn't scam people like the flim and flam brothers. You gotta admit, that merch would be a crowd pleaser. So in a way, Snips is helpful in his own way. At least he has character.
33:22 - and you could also take away this lesson too: Just because you're into something, don't assume everypony is into it too. And yes, this episode unfortunately _did_ break the streak of at least 'above average' episodes, coming in as 'meh' or 'mediocre'. Every season has to have at least one stinker, and unfortunately, this was it. :/ Oh well, things can only get better from here.
This was also a case of cheerleading's not cool or a sport. They may not have done any Bring it on type of stuff but cheerleading is just as important because it takes hard work and they care about it
1. 0:38 "The only thing I can guess about it, is that it has something to do about sports... I doubt it's another buckball episode, since we already had one." For all we know, buckball might be the only organized team sport in Equestria, outside of the Equestria Games. 2. 1:25 Pinkie: "I always thought Celestia was kind of a jock..." Wha--? How? Until recently, Her Sunniness hasn't been very active for hundreds of years, so I don't know how Ponkers could have gotten _that_ impression. 3. 2:04 Nice, dramatic faint, Flutters. Not as good as Rarity or Princess Cadance, but I'd give it a solid 8.5 4. 2:08 "Was that necessary, Pinkie?" Flutters didn't seem to mind, so maybe a cold splash of water was just what she needed. Especially if it was a hot day outside! 5. 3:59 "Hey, cheerleading's important!" It certainly felt important to me growing up, when I was going through puberty. XD 6. 4:47 "Correct me if I'm wrong, but you made Fluttershy cheer for you once, remember?" How could I forget my favorite pre-opening segment of the entire series? 7. 5:50 Snips: "So _I_ have a vested interest and _you_ have an assistant coach." Rainbow Dash and Snips? Not a team-up I ever thought we'd see in an episode, not in a million years! 8. 6:11 "Whoa! You two have the right spirit." [And cute designs, with a nice fire/ice contrast.] And flexibility to spare! 9. 6:46 Smolder: "I just came with these two. Guess they think you can made cheer squad cool or something." TPrower: "That's the story you sticking with, slugger?" So it has nothing to do with the chance to dress up in traditionally feminine attire? Riiiiiiight, whatever you say. 10. 8:44 [And just like that, she sends me into Scold Mode...] Which pony would you say does that to you the most often? 11. 9:45 [Why is it ALWAYS my tail?!...] It's so visible and vibrant; I guess it just makes a tempting target. 12. 11:30 "Good on ya for calling her out, Smolder." That young dragon never was one to shy away from confrontation, was she? 13. 12:40 Snails: "This is the School of Friendship. If you need ideas, you should ask your friends for help." I never thought I'd see an episode where Snips and Snails were being more helpful than the main character! 14. 13:37 RD: "Yeah, Zecora's a lot less helpful than you think." Said nopony else ever. 15. 15:46 "Look out!" I had the same reaction. It's easy to forget that that cannon is only loaded with confetti, isn't it? All those Warner Brothers cartoons we saw growing up have conditioned us to expect far worse. 16. 16:09 RD: "What?" TPrower: "Oh *believe me,* I would *_dearly_* love to tell *_you_* _WHAT._ But, I'll restrain myself, and let _them_ do it for me..." Secretly, I was hoping it'd be Fluttershy. But Smolder did a pretty good job of telling Dash off in her stead. 17. 18:30 [Luckily nopony's behind that desk, or you two would be mooning them.] Don't forget about the short colt who showed up in _front_ of that desk. His vantage point was even better! :) 18. 19:48 "Yeah, yeah, the merch, we get it!" Was Snips supposed to be the Hasbro marketing department's self-insert this episode? :D 19. 20:56 [A magic dampening ring!] Just what kind of things did writer Kaita Mpambara find on the internet before she started working at DHX, I wonder... 20. 21:03 "Hey Twi, Starlight, Celestia." Never before has there been so much power congregated together all in one place. :) 21. 22:30 Ocellus: "When I say friend, you say ship!" Many bronies say ship, quite often in fact. ;) 22. 23:00 The best part about having a dragon in your halftime show: Free pyrotechnics! 23. 24:21 I never thought I'd see Twilight getting a high hoof from Princess Celestia! 24. 31:53 "....But could you imagine Gallus being forced to be a cheerleader?!" Well, it seemed to be an all-volunteer squad, but you're right! That would have been comedy gold. On the other hoof, Sandbar definitely would have volunteered if any of the teachers had asked him. We know how far he'd go to please his idols! Without the pretty outfits, I might have thought of this one as a below-average episode. But once again, just like in Cart Before the Ponies, cheerleaders make everything better. :)
Heh. Believe me, I couldn’t be prouder of my little Cinnamon Bug. =) 1. We’ve seen footballs in past episodes, but nothing ever came of that 2. It’s a mystery how that silly girl’s mind works, lol 3. Now all we need is Rarity suggesting getting her a fainting couch. 4. Fair point 5. Pfft. 6. One that spawned an enjoyable meme, lol 7. Same here, but at least Snips is finally being given some focus 8. And I found out that their VAs, Kelli Ogmundson and Diana Kaarina, were previously Petunia Paleo and Saffron Masala, as well as Aria Blaze in Diana’s case. 9. She only really admitted her soft side to Ocellus, but since we only saw that, who knows which of her other friends know? 10. Sadly, Dash herself, when she acts like only what she wants matters. 11. Least it wasn’t yanked via teeth this time, though I doubt a magical yank is any better. 12. And I admire her for it, like when she made it clear that anyone who messed with her or Spike gets a healthy dose of pain. 13. Only took 9 seasons, lol 14. How dare you, Dash. 15. Indeed. 16. I agree. I’d also hate to have seen Twilight’s reaction, since she was the one who assigned her to this. 17. Good grief, lol 18. Wouldn’t be a shocker, lol 19. Not sure, but they’ve likely had to come up with some realistic way for unicorns to restrict their magic when needed. It’s amazing what becomes canon when it’s something you’d only seen in fics. 20. It’s just nice to see Glimmy enjoying buckball as well. =) 21. Pfft, only too true 22. As long as said pyrotechnics are under proper control, lol 23. “You’ve learned well, my faithful student.” 24. Heheh Lol. Again, not the best, but not the worst, either.
1. Oh yeah, there's hoofball! I forgot about that. 8. Ooh, nice research! So one of them moved down in age and the other moved up for this episode. :) 10. For me, it's close between Dash and Pinkie. But at least with Pinkie, it's usually at least _somewhat_ funny. 11. I was actually surprised that Snips had the power to hold her! Maybe Snails isn't the colt whose magic has been getting stronger. 19. It could have been from art as well, especially since show writers aren't as tightly restricted from looking at things in that category.
Hmmm i think the difference between her encouraging fluttershy in "Hurricane fluttershy" and Having fluttershy cheer for her in "Sonic Rainboom" back in seasons 1 - 2 & encouraging the cheer team in this episode is the level of Importance to RD. Like for getting the water up to cloudsdale to make winter in "Hurricane Fluttershy" was extremely important and did hinge on all the pegasi including fluttershy who she knew from the beginning would need extra encouragement to do anything related to the project since she had known fluttershy since childhood. While in "Sonic rainboom" RD needed the support because she was already nervous from the multiple failed rainboom attempts as well as the possibly blowing her 1 chance to get closer to her dream of being a wonderbolt.
Honestly, my big issue with this episode is that Dash kind of had a point: she knew almost nothing about cheerleading, and no one was bothering to explain to her the specifics of the job or fully go into why it was important. In particular, all Twilight said was essentially "I have faith in you", which is all well and good, but if you don't explain upfront WHY you're putting Dash on the cheer squad in the first place despite, again, her not really knowing much about it, then yeah, she's not going to be all that invested. Hell, the reveal that this was basically a set-up by Twilight for Dash to learn a lesson makes this slightly worse: not only was there no real catalyst for her to go to such an underhanded length (unlike in "28 Pranks Later"), but honestly, if I were Dash and I found out she put me in a position that I had no real knowledge on without explaining the job to me or its importance all for the sake of teaching me a lesson, I'd be pretty pissed. Don't me wrong, the actual moral they're going for is a good one, but I'm sorry, the way this episode tried to execute that moral felt pretty unfair to Dash, and despite her somewhat arrogant attitude at a few points, I was still mostly on her side.
I'm sure a lot of people have mixed feeling with this episode especially for anybody who's in cheerleading But at least snip was very helpful and It's awesome to see the young six
I think that I need to speak up for Snips here. He's not being greedy or trying to cheat anypony. He's trying to start a small business selling sports memorabilia. And @14:18 it looks like he's realizing that he might lose the bits that had invested into the endeavour
Rainbow Dash has never been my favorite, but there have always been things I’ve liked about her from day one. For one, her ego could definitely be worse: she has no problem not being the leader of the Mane Six, and I noticed she asked Twilight “Why? You heard of me?” rather than presuming that Twilight must have heard of her. Plus, loyalty is an underrated virtue, underrated I think because it’s all too often abused. As for why she hasn’t been my favorite, well…. For all it’s tempered, I still don’t like her egotism (but some of that, I’m sure, is my own pride talking); I don’t share too many of her interests (but the show itself points out that you don’t need common interests to be friends); and her personality often comes on too strong for me (but again, not always, as witness how she was with Scootaloo after Spitfire’s “motivational speech”. I’m no sports fan, but I suspect that a big part of that has less to do with sports themselves and more to do with how carried away some sports fans get. That’s why I appreciate the good sportsmanship here, even though Celestia’s team was competing against Twilight’s. If I saw more of that, sports might not rub me the wrong way so much.
17:20 - wow, *_five_* strikes in one episode? That's an academy record! LOL 17:28 to 18:02 - You see Dash? Get your head out of your rump and realize the significance of this moment: this is *Smolder,*, a tomboy who has a closet girly side, something that she doesn't just show to anycreature. But yet she was willing to embrace her girly side if it mean having Rainbow Dash as the coach for the cheerleader squad. So to have Dash simply not care at all, that was a harsh blow to Smolder to take...even if she didn't cry aloud, that she teared up showed she was really upset, and most importantly, let down. :( You'd better do something pretty friggin' _spectacular_ to make it up to those girls. I bet *I* know why Smolder was behind the bleachers all night...probably from crying, disappointed that the pony she looked up to the most let her down. :'( 22:06 - do I smell shades of "Sister Act" here? :p I kind of sensed that would happen earlier in the story, if Dashie wasn't being so selfish...but I am happy to see the squad turn about for the better. ^_^.. 22:36 - and there it is...if there was only ONE factor to keep this episode from getting an F-, it's the precious little cinnamon bug herself overcoming her shyness! I'm proud of you Ocellus. 24:23 - good review, fellow Troper. :p
The "resolution" at the end didn't' feel earned Dash should know that pumping people up is just as important. She's cheered people on on and asks Fluttershy to cheer for her!
October is here, I recovered from my cold and it's time to react to more ponies (and hopefully catch up before the finale. I'll probably have to react to more than one episode an evening). Ah, and I finally finished the first season of Steven Universe. And I just learned that there's a second season DVD (what a coincidence). Strange that they'd bring that title from a season 3 episode that most already have forgotten (hell, I barely remember it). (2:45) Remember when she could barely hold more than a bunny or two? She ought to give Quibble Pants some lessons. (3:09) And how many sport equipment stores did you emptied this time, Rainbow Dash? (3:28) Don't knock it off, Dash. As Travis Touchdown stated, you can shred shit up with pom pons. (5:30) Snips? Did you attend a summer semester at Flim and Flam's Friendship University, by any chance? Cause that obsession with money is rather recent. (7:13) I'm kinda with you, Dash. I always skipped the cheeleading parts (whenever there were any) in sports movies. Then again, I didn't watch that many. (7:55) Forget the house. She's going to bring down the entire stage. (9:37) That's part of why the episode doesn't work for me. Dash HAS shown that she knows the importance of a good cheer AND has coached Fluttershy on cheering AND took part in organized cheering. So, the idea that she doesn't know or care about cheering is...bizarre. Then again, I somehow remembers that from a 200-plus episodes show, so I'm probably just a nitpicker. (10:30) How far have we fallen when SNIPS of all ponies is the voice of reason? (12:14) That...might actually be an improvement compared to...whatever the hell Snips had them do. (13:08) NO DOPING DURING CHEERLEADING SESSIONS!!! (14:15) At this point, Cranky Doodle Donkey seems like a better cheer coach. (15:22) "We called this part, The Goldilock," (15:31) "And this one, the Bevanfield." (16:13) "Dash, I repeat for the...em... (*counts on my fingers, then on Smoulder's claws, then on Fluttershy's feathers*)...37th time. What were you thinking? How did you forget something so basic as cheering? And did you had dinner? (16:48) (*calmly*) So what you mean to say is, the one thing you put so much pressure on Fluttershy to learn when you were preparing your Sonic Rainboom, that you actually took part in a very important sporting event and got from your parents for pretty much your entire life to the point of annoyance is something you never cared or had any respect in. Am I right?" Dash: "Basically yes. I'm surprised you're taking it so well." (*VERY SHARP AND LOUD BREATH*) Dash: "Uh-Oh" "*I SH-*" (cut to a fireplace with a nice roaring fire for 10 seconds) Dash: (flattened on the wall) (*loud panting*) *DID-I-MADE-MYSELF-CLEAR-DASH!!!* (shamefully stolen from one my favorite comedy series (ua-cam.com/video/2yRAvO-ESfM/v-deo.html at 15:32) It might be in French, but the intent is pretty clear) (19:58) And you just...go design new ones, Snips. Think of the collectors. (21:00) Magic dampeners are canons (after spending 9 years seeing them in fanfictions) and those butterfly wings are back (hopefully by alicorn magic, so they don't burn out). (21:26) Just imagine how many times she wanted to break out that Royal Canterlot Voice during her usual court. (22:59) "And we'll make them remember the day they faced the Titans...I mean, the School of Friendship!" Honestly, not really fond of that one. And the episode ddn't exactly gave me much to work with. The Next one should.
That's good to hear. =) All that I tend to remember about that episode is how oblivious the Mane 6 were by not bothering to ask if the pony they were with was the right one. 1. For sure. My Flutters has grown a lot over the course of this show. =) 2. That surely couldn't be her own personal collection. That seems like too much even for her personal use. 3. Never underestimate the power of pom-poms, lol 4. Guess they had to give him something the way they did for Snails. I'm not too sure how to feel about him being Equestria's Eddy myself, even if he isn't pulling scams for money. 5. I don't watch many sports movies, either. 6. Yaks best at smash performances! 7. No matter how you look at it and try to justify it, it doesn't make sense in terms of continuity, much to Applegeek's frustration 8. Tell me about it. 9. At least Snails is on point, in his own way 10. I doubt Zecora would willingly consent to giving out a performance enhancer for a sporting event. 11. And that's pretty sad 12. Clumsy and disorienting, just like her 13. Dry and stale, just like everything they make 14. That's quite a bit of countin' you had to do, lol 15. Damn, dude. That was intense. 16. Won't somebody _please_ think of the collectors! 17. Nice continuity _and_ a nod to fan concepts 18. Many times, I'd imagine, especially when somepony's getting on her nerves 19. And that was definitely a performance for the ages Yeah, this one is kind of a mixed bag, depending on what aspect you focus on.
...Wow...I'm impressed. Both Snips *AND* Snails have come a long way. Up until season 6, I saw both of them as nothing but a walking *_joke,_* existing for the sake of cheap laughs with their moronic humor. But both of them have redeemed themselves in my eyes: Snips, for being a secret badass Buckball goalie, and now Snails, for understanding why cheerleaders are important to a game. True, as you said, he might be driven by greed, but he is absolutely right. it's about team spirit, encouraging fans to come to the games...getting flanks in the seats. 10:30 - so yeah, bra-freaking-vo to ya Snails. ^_^ 11:58 - *effin' THANK YOU* Smolder! From one tomboy to another, Dash needs to get her act together and get serious. 14:52 - if she hadn't already gotten strike three 10 minutes and 41 seconds ago...*that* would've done the trick. You're not the only one, Tee; Dash is steadily starting to piss me off too. BUT, remember folks, keep it within the show. Don't extend it to the writers of the show who are just doing their jobs with hate mail.. Heh, KNOW I know who Snails reminds me of when he's like this: Gallywix, the leader of the Goblin race in World of Warcraft, who's defining trait is also greed. :p 16:33 - ....that is some righteous anger in your voice, Tee.
T-minus 12 episodes -(Peter Capaldi)- 3:27 - I agree, adorable pout Dashie. But on a more serious note, maybe this is meant to be something similar to what Spitfire pulled in 'Wonderbolts Academy'. Twilight already knows that Dash is a competent coach for buckball; she just wants to see how Dash would fare when coaching something different. If so, very clever, your Royal Studiousness.
4:00 - wow, you're already not winning much good girl points, Dash. >:/ 4:04 - Second strike, Dashie. 4:11 - and with a back-handed selfish comment, we've got ourselves a polarizing episode, and contender for worst episode for Season Nine. And it only took less than 12 seconds. Be afraid folks, be very afraid. :p Also, good point about mentioning Fluttershy cheering for her, TPrower. :) 6:31 - aww, my personal 3 favorites of the Young Six. and yeah, don't sell yourself short, little cinnamon bug. :( 8:41 - and *YEP*, I knew that would send you straight into Scold Mode! But, as you more calmly pointed out at the commercial pause, Dash's selfish moments are just a part of her character, and something that can't just disappear after one lesson. But to your credit, you're probably showing a lot more tolerance to this episode overall than most blind reactors have had...
The whole thing about Fluttershy cheering for Dash is a different situation. Cheering just consists of yelling enthusiastically. Cheerleading is way more involved
Its amazing how much buckball has expanded since season 6. It went from just a made up game to a national sport in no time flat. Side note: I have never heard of infinity train before now so i gonna check it out. P.s i recommend you go into episodes 16 - 19 blind.
I understand Rainbow completely. If someone asked me to fix something I don't know a thing about (and even hate said thing), I would've just run away asap leaving just a dist of disappointment behind. She had a complete right to behave this way. This was just some bomb dropped on her and everyone is angry at her. She just had no idea how to do what with this darn task.
I know that some of her selfish sides will still be there but this was too much from I mean look at Rainbow Roadtrip and look at this. In the beginning she was being a bit egotistical about the festival and then eagerly coached a pair of foals. She said at the end she was proud to be a guest of honour for it. Here it was like if it's not about sports it's not important
I honestly wasn’t expecting you to do this one blind. Not one of the best episodes but still an important lesson. I haven’t seen Infinity Train yet but if you say it is good I will be sure to see it myself. By the way, have you seen any of Final Space? It is currently in its second season and I highly recommend it.
So the two big takeaways I got from this episode. Kaita Mpambara can write a solid episode if it's not mane 6 focused (compare this/Horse Play with A Rockhoof and a Hard Place), and it still feels bad to watch you go so deep into scold mode (and yet that was still one of the most positive reactions I've seen. Seriously, the amount of claims that Dash was utterly ruined by this ep...). It's really not a great episode by any means and it ranks 14th so far for the season, but it does give everyone bar RD some solid moments. I've seen pointers that her behaviour isn't all that out there either (even if it was taken to the extreme). Using your comment about Fluttershy's cheering as an example, Rainbow Dash has always been a pony that thrives on getting attention rather than giving it unless it is one of her idols. Standing on the sidelines like that is never going to appeal to her on its own. In addition, she possibly has a bad outlook on cheer squads after her parents were similarly OTT, having Flutters cheering might have been okay since she's not going to be so bombastic. It doesn't excuse anything, but it's more in character than most would dare accept after this. As a last aside, I never thought about how this was basically RD's version of Honest Apple. Just goes to show how much better that one could have been and pushes it that much closer to my least favourite spot...At least there's nowhere to go from here but up.
To me, it is one of the weaker episodes of this season, so far. I know that RD's character fluctuates quite often. At one point, she seems to represent the element of loyalty, and the next, she seems to be loyal to herself. I know that we all have our struggles, but I believe this is one of worse Dash center episodes, at least for me. In Season 7, Episode 23: Secrets and Pies, it would seem like Dash was self-centered when she was lying to Pinkie that she didn't like pie. However, in that episode, she was afraid to tell Pinkie the truth because it might hurt Pinkie's feelings. However, here, Dash wanted to ditch the cheer leading squad because she wanted to watch the game. Twilight put her in position, thinking that Dash would be a good fit for her and Dash act like it was the worst possible thing. It was so bad that she tries to pawn the responsibilities to another pony and even give them things and tell them to have fun. If it were just for this alone, I would say that this episode would be even worse than Non-Complete Cause back in Season 8. In that episode, at least Apple Jack would share the blame as well. But I do think that the saving grace is the students and the cheer leaders. I wouldn't imagine Smolder to be on the team, but something starting to make a little sense. I am not sure if I am looking too much into it. It would seem that Smolder visualize RD as a cool pony, even looking up to her. It reminds me how Scootaloo looks up to RD, and now I wonder what would happen if Scootaloo would join the cheer leading squad. I imagine it would be even a bigger heartbreak than with Smolder. It makes it more interesting that Smolder does have Scootaloo's colors. Anyways, sorry for the rant, but it is probably one of the least in the season for me.
4:22 😑 your parents. Your PARENTS. 4:33 😡 Your. PARENTS! 7:15 Dash NOT understanding why cheering is important and saying she doesn't know anything about it literally doesn't make ANY sense after what happened in Parental Glidance and ESPECIALLY after she JOINED her parents in cheering on Scootaloo. 18:27 wait. Oculus can sleep through a loud whistle but it's Yona screaming that wakes her? 19:38 um... not to rain on your parade... but there's literally only 5 creatures in your squad. It is physically impossible to make the BIGGEST Pony Pyramid (also, putting "pony" in front of something, AGAIN? Ya need to STOP that when you're school's supposed to promote that it's multi cultural) with just 5 members... unless Oculus shape shifts into a much larger creature, but that's besides the point here. 24:11 no. Because after Parental Glidance YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE *NEEDED* TO LEARN IT! I *HATE* what the writers did here! 🤬 24:23 NO, Celestia. NOT "nicely done". This is NOT how Twilight should be acting. It is OUT OF CHARACTER for her. It literally goes against everything she's supposed to have learned about Friendship throughout the last 8+ seasons! Had this backfired, Oculus, Yona and Smoulder would've been scarred FOR LIFE by the humiliation and it all would've been TWILIGHT'S FAULT for using them as a prop to teach Dash a lesson SHE ALREADY LEARNED SEASONS AGO! Twilight would NOT do that to them. Fuck the writer for screwing up both Dash AND Twilight! There were PLENTY of ways this could've worked WITHOUT making Twilight and Dash be NOT who they should be by now. This was season ONE Dash. That is NOT who she is now.
Next episode full of meme faces but your choice to react blind or not. Really recommend episode 17 and 18 to be blind though, they're that good at least imo.
Well so far it has gotten quite a bit of hate but at the same time there are quite a bit of people who thought it was ok, decent or meh. That could change after a few more days though.
On one hand, I wasn’t very fond of RD’s actions in this episode, she’s normally not like this if you recall the episodes when she was motivating and encouraging everypony to do their best. Not the greatest example shown for the most part in this episode. On the other hand, I still was interested in the development and inclusion of the cheer squad, they kept things afloat at least and also, I like the new pony characters(Shimmy Shake and Lighthoof). Honestly, I consider this episode one of if not, the weakest of S9. There were some good moments, but not one of the strongest I’ve seen this season.
SpacialRend7 yes exactly her motivating others is her best trait so that’s why I don’t understand why she thinks this is unimportant. Even her EQG counterpart is better than this!
One thing I do like about these episodes where one or more of the mane six are being portrayed negatively... It gives the students a chance to stand up to them, and shows the kids watching that adults and teachers aren't always right and shouldn't be beyond question, no matter how highly they are held in esteem. It would be nice if we could get this sort of lesson without it bringing out the worst in one of our favorite characters, though.
Dash being the worst for 20 minutes straight! Character development where? She only cares about herself she is so painfully selfish! she is drop dead on the bottom of my list!
I wouldn't say RD only cared about herself. She cared about the actual Buckball team & the members of the cheer squad just not the idea of The cheer squad. Which would make sense since RD has worked with the actual players instead of the people on the sidelines. It also didn't help that she knew nothing about cheerleading.
@@autumbreeze1129 hmm I wouldn't say that. She was just understandably not enthusiastic which would make sense since in multiple other episodes she has always either been in the game or teaching ponies in the game & shown that if she isn't interested her enthusiasm tanks hard. While in this episode RD was told to coach the cheer squad, Something she knew nothing about nor did she have any interest in. Twilight really should have given her some tips so she would have something to work with.
@Josh Blackwell Back when this whole drama started when a lot of people says that pinkie was out of character So this is going to be the same thing what’s happening here now with rainbow dash in this episode
@@yoshifan3077 Ooooh you meant "Filli Vanilli" (I actually got confused for a second). I Well at the moment the episode isn't completely hated but most people so far say it is Ok, Decent, Meh or Bad because of the way RD was in this episode. Honestly though i think Pinkie was in character in that episode & i feel that Rainbow dash was in character in this episode too.
@@joshblackwell8632 To be honest yes pinkie was in character in that filli vanilli And Rainbow dash was in character to be honest actually But if felt a little too far what she said
I suppose you had to do this cringe fest. God I hated it. Can we stop having episodes where a character is in a situation they not only don't want to be in, but really don't fit in? We had this before with "Honest Applejack" and it ended horribly. And while I"m on the subject, can we stop having episodes in shows period that try to portray cheerleaders as important? I'm not saying it's not a sport, but let's stop pretending that they're there for anything other than to entertain the audience. They do squat all when it comes to the actual game/event. The only joy I get from this episode is I can make a shipping joke. All things considered Smolder, at least Spike saw you as a cheerleader.
Well if they/we only were in situations you wanted to be in they/we wouldn't really get too far. And in "Honest apple" wasn't that bad it was an ok episode imo.
@UCGpW07-3IUHoIAZJJKZBxrg I understand that. Just saying that forcing people into these sitations only hurts everyone. It's better to try to encourage them to explore other areas. For example, I began to really love horror movies. I didn't think I would because when I was growing up all the trailers and like emphazied the gore and jumpscare. When my girlfriend broke up with me I tried to get over it by moving onto new areas of interest. See, because I CHOSE to look into this new area, I was far more fair. But in this episode, Rainbow Dash was forced into an area she didn't care about. So she responded by fighting back, like anyone.
Loved Lighthoof and Shimmy Shake in this
episode; super adorable cheerleaders. =)
You know what? I think I found the perfect line to sum up how I, and *so many other* blind reactors felt at 16:49 . It's from the ending of "Kill Bill vol. 2"
"Naaah, you're not a bad pony. You're a _terrific_ pony, you're one of my favorite ponies...
But every once in a while... *__* ...you can be a real c---."
I think they looked adorable in those cheer uniforms.
First time I’ll be watching blind with you
This episode, while not great, is still pretty decent, and it's definitely not the weakest of the season so far.
Light Hoof and Shimmy Shake are adorable
This wasn't as bad as non-complete clause I wasn't yelling at my computer screen
Also Gallus as a cheerleader I need to see that also thanks for the mention he's my boy!
A fellow Gallus fanboy, eh? Nice!
Narrator007 He’s the best and I ship him with Silverstream
Blue and pink feathered creatures... it's almost like they were _made_ to be shipped!
Pretty decent episode in my opinion & a good lesson regardless.
They may not have done any Bring it on type of stuff but cheerleading is just as important because it takes hard work and they care about it
I skipped ahead because I couldn't wait to see your reactions to Lighthoof, Shimmy Shake, Smolder, and Ocellus in this one. Especially Ocellus!
1. 0:38 "The only thing I can guess about it, is that it has something to do about sports... I doubt it's another buckball episode, since we already had one."
For all we know, buckball might be the only organized team sport in Equestria, outside of the Equestria Games.
2. 1:25 Pinkie: "I always thought Celestia was kind of a jock..."
Wha--? How? Until recently, Her Sunniness hasn't been very active for hundreds of years, so I don't know how Ponkers could have gotten _that_ impression.
3. 2:04 Nice, dramatic faint, Flutters. Not as good as Rarity or Princess Cadance, but I'd give it a solid 8.5
4. 2:08 "Was that necessary, Pinkie?"
Flutters didn't seem to mind, so maybe a cold splash of water was just what she needed. Especially if it was a hot day outside!
5. 3:59 "Hey, cheerleading's important!"
It certainly felt important to me growing up, when I was going through puberty. XD
6. 4:47 "Correct me if I'm wrong, but you made Fluttershy cheer for you once, remember?"
How could I forget my favorite pre-opening segment of the entire series?
7. 5:50 Snips: "So _I_ have a vested interest and _you_ have an assistant coach."
Rainbow Dash and Snips? Not a team-up I ever thought we'd see in an episode, not in a million years!
8. 6:11 "Whoa! You two have the right spirit."
[And cute designs, with a nice fire/ice contrast.]
And flexibility to spare!
9. 6:46 Smolder: "I just came with these two. Guess they think you can made cheer squad cool or something."
TPrower: "That's the story you sticking with, slugger?"
So it has nothing to do with the chance to dress up in traditionally feminine attire? Riiiiiiight, whatever you say.
10. 8:44 [And just like that, she sends me into Scold Mode...]
Which pony would you say does that to you the most often?
11. 9:45 [Why is it ALWAYS my tail?!...]
It's so visible and vibrant; I guess it just makes a tempting target.
12. 11:30 "Good on ya for calling her out, Smolder."
That young dragon never was one to shy away from confrontation, was she?
13. 12:40 Snails: "This is the School of Friendship. If you need ideas, you should ask your friends for help."
I never thought I'd see an episode where Snips and Snails were being more helpful than the main character!
14. 13:37 RD: "Yeah, Zecora's a lot less helpful than you think."
Said nopony else ever.
15. 15:46 "Look out!"
I had the same reaction. It's easy to forget that that cannon is only loaded with confetti, isn't it? All those Warner Brothers cartoons we saw growing up have conditioned us to expect far worse.
16. 16:09 RD: "What?"
TPrower: "Oh *believe me,* I would *_dearly_* love to tell *_you_* _WHAT._ But, I'll restrain myself, and let _them_ do it for me..."
Secretly, I was hoping it'd be Fluttershy. But Smolder did a pretty good job of telling Dash off in her stead.
17. 18:30 [Luckily nopony's behind that desk, or you two would be mooning them.]
Don't forget about the short colt who showed up in _front_ of that desk. His vantage point was even better! :)
18. 19:48 "Yeah, yeah, the merch, we get it!"
Was Snips supposed to be the Hasbro marketing department's self-insert this episode? :D
19. 20:56 [A magic dampening ring!]
Just what kind of things did writer Kaita Mpambara find on the internet before she started working at DHX, I wonder...
20. 21:03 "Hey Twi, Starlight, Celestia."
Never before has there been so much power congregated together all in one place. :)
21. 22:30 Ocellus: "When I say friend, you say ship!"
Many bronies say ship, quite often in fact. ;)
22. 23:00 The best part about having a dragon in your halftime show: Free pyrotechnics!
23. 24:21 I never thought I'd see Twilight getting a high hoof from Princess Celestia!
24. 31:53 "....But could you imagine Gallus being forced to be a cheerleader?!"
Well, it seemed to be an all-volunteer squad, but you're right!
1. We’ve seen footballs in past episodes, but nothing ever came of that
2. It’s a mystery how that silly girl’s mind works, lol
3. Now all we need is Rarity suggesting getting her a fainting couch.
4. Fair point
5. Pfft.
6. One that spawned an enjoyable meme, lol
7. Same here, but at least Snips is finally being given some focus
13. Only took 9 seasons, lol
14. How dare you, Dash.
15. Indeed.
16. I agree. I’d also hate to have seen Twilight’s reaction, since she was the one who assigned her to this.
17. Good grief, lol
18. Wouldn’t be a shocker, lol
19. Not sure, but they’ve likely had to come up with some realistic way for unicorns to restrict their magic when needed. It’s amazing what becomes canon when it’s something you’d only seen in fics.
20. It’s just nice to see Glimmy enjoying buckball as well. =)
21. Pfft, only too true
22. As long as said pyrotechnics are under proper control, lol
23. “You’ve learned well, my faithful student.”
24. Heheh
Lol. Again, not the best, but not the worst, either.
1. Oh yeah, there's hoofball! I forgot about that.
8. Ooh, nice research! So one of them moved down in age and the other moved up for this episode. :)
Thanks bro, it's nice to see someone defending capitalism in this day and age.
LOL
17:28 to 18:02 - You see Dash?
22:06 - do I smell shades of "Sister Act" here? :p I kind of sensed that would happen earlier in the story, if Dashie wasn't being so selfish...but I am happy to see the squad turn about for the better. ^_^..
22:36 - and there it is...if there was only ONE factor to keep this episode from getting an F-, it's the precious little cinnamon bug herself overcoming her shyness! I'm proud of you Ocellus.
24:23 - good review, fellow Troper. :p
The "resolution" at the end didn't' feel earned Dash should know that pumping people up is just as important. She's cheered people on on and asks Fluttershy to cheer for her!
although cheering and cheerleading are two different things
(15:22) "We called this part, The Goldilock,"
(15:31) "And this one, the Bevanfield."
(16:13) "Dash, I repeat for the...em...
Am I right?"
Dash: "Basically yes. I'm surprised you're taking it so well."
(*VERY SHARP AND LOUD BREATH*)
Dash: "Uh-Oh"
"*I SH-*"
(cut to a fireplace with a nice roaring fire for 10 seconds)
Dash: (flattened on the wall)
(*loud panting*) *DID-I-MADE-MYSELF-CLEAR-DASH!!!*
(shamefully stolen from one my favorite comedy series (ua-cam.com/video/2yRAvO-ESfM/v-deo.html at 15:32) It might be in French, but the intent is pretty clear)
(19:58) And you just...go design new ones, Snips.
(22:59) "And we'll make them remember the day they faced the Titans...I mean, the School of Friendship!"
Honestly, not really fond of that one. And the episode ddn't exactly gave me much to work with. The Next one should.
That's good to hear. =)
All that I tend to remember about that episode is how oblivious the Mane 6 were by not bothering to ask if the pony they were with was the right one.
1. For sure. My Flutters has grown a lot over the course of this show. =)
2. That surely couldn't be her own personal collection. That seems like too much even for her personal use.
3. Never underestimate the power of pom-poms, lol
4. Guess they had to give him something the way they did for Snails. I'm not too sure how to feel about him being Equestria's Eddy myself, even if he isn't pulling scams for money.
5. I don't watch many sports movies, either.
6. Yaks best at smash performances!
7. No matter how you look at it and try to justify it, it doesn't make sense in terms of continuity, much to Applegeek's frustration
8. Tell me about it.
9. At least Snails is on point, in his own way
10. I doubt Zecora would willingly consent to giving out a performance enhancer for a sporting event.
11. And that's pretty sad
12. Clumsy and disorienting, just like her
13. Dry and stale, just like everything they make
14. That's quite a bit of countin' you had to do, lol
15. Damn, dude. That was intense.
16. Won't somebody _please_ think of the collectors!
17. Nice continuity _and_ a nod to fan concepts
18. Many times, I'd imagine, especially when somepony's getting on her nerves
19. And that was definitely a performance for the ages
Yeah, this one is kind of a mixed bag, depending on what aspect you focus on.
i call that slacking off from this episode from rainbow dash
Even though she didn't know how to lead a cheer squad she could have tried and asked for legit help and not just shortcuts.
Well you know what they say if you aren't enthusiastic about your job (Or anything else) it shows.
...Wow...I'm impressed. ^_^
11:58 - *effin' THANK YOU* Smolder!
16:33 - ....that is some righteous anger in your voice, Tee.
Just a heads-up. While praising Snips and Snails in your opening paragraph, you got the two of them backwards.
@@Narrator007 did I? Oh yeah, I did. Whoops. I guess that shows just how little I care for them, lol. But thank you for the correction.
T-minus 12 episodes -(Peter Capaldi)-
3:27 - I agree, adorable pout Dashie.
That is a good way of looking at the situation.
4:00 - wow, you're already not winning much good girl points, Dash. >:/
4:04 - Second strike, Dashie.
4:11 - and with a back-handed selfish comment, we've got ourselves a polarizing episode, and contender for worst episode for Season Nine. And it only took less than 12 seconds. Be afraid folks, be very afraid. :p
Also, good point about mentioning Fluttershy cheering for her, TPrower. :)
6:31 - aww, my personal 3 favorites of the Young Six. and yeah, don't sell yourself short, little cinnamon bug. :(
8:41 - and *YEP*, I knew that would send you straight into Scold Mode!
4:55-Also games pony play where Dash was so into the cheer for the crystal empire.
Magic dampening ring, oh dear!!!!
Yep. Those are canon now
I honestly wasn’t expecting you to do this one blind.
Can you go into episodes 17 and 19 blind?
This is the first time I seen the episode
How bad is your temper,Tprower?
24:23 NO, Celestia.
I had issues with the pacing of this episode. And, even though the moral was decent, I doubt that this episode will be well received by the fandom
Well so far it has gotten quite a bit of hate but at the same time there are quite a bit of people who thought it was ok, decent or meh. That could change after a few more days though.
plz do reactions 4 friendship is terrifing
Huh?
@@joshblackwell8632 That is true a little misguided on Twi's part but at the same time she could have tried I dunno
@@Astral_inkwell Well episode is certainly is a good for conversation. :D
Josh Blackwell That is true a frustrating one but a good one
In the end, this was a decently average episode. =)
Honestly, the writing for Rainbow is terrible. =(
Why do you think the writing for rainbow is bad???
@@joshblackwell8632 because she was acting like Season 1 Dash
@@autumbreeze1129 hmm I wouldn't say that. She was just understandably not enthusiastic which would make sense since in multiple other episodes she has always either been in the game or teaching ponies in the game & shown that if she isn't interested her enthusiasm tanks hard. While in this episode RD was told to coach the cheer squad, Something she knew nothing about nor did she have any interest in. Twilight really should have given her some tips so she would have something to work with.
And I'm sure that's another add to the list of rainbow dash is a jerk character Because of this episode filly villa anyone
Filly Villa????
@Josh Blackwell Back when this whole drama started when a lot of people says that pinkie was out of character So this is going to be the same thing what’s happening here now with rainbow dash in this episode
@@yoshifan3077 Ooooh you meant "Filli Vanilli" (I actually got confused for a second). I Well at the moment the episode isn't completely hated but most people so far say it is Ok, Decent, Meh or Bad because of the way RD was in this episode. Honestly though i think Pinkie was in character in that episode & i feel that Rainbow dash was in character in this episode too.
@@joshblackwell8632 To be honest yes pinkie was in character in that filli vanilli And Rainbow dash was in character to be honest actually But if felt a little too far what she said
Seriously what the was hell was wrong with RD in this episode? It was like she was replaced with her season one counterpart.
Well, she didn’t really know anything about cheerleading, yet she was the coach. I would be terrified if that was me.
