Plot Tour & Spud Talk

- It’s that time of year where the plot looks very untidy. Life has been busy and the plot is looking shabby, but I am documenting this so I can look back over my progress in the upcoming season.
At home I decided to share the potatoes I will be growing this year. What varieties will you be growing this year? How do you grow yours?

ASALAMUALAIKUM.. MashaAllah very nice sharing.. potatoes..wowww... excellent 👍... farming 🌾
W.Salam, thanks so my for you kind words my sister 😊🌱 may Allah keep you blessed. Ameen
Hi Amir, after watching you on the grow up live last week you popped up on my UA-cam feed so I thought I'd give you a whirl. I have now subscribed as I loved your plans for the plot for this year with your idea for rows of flowers etc. I look forward to watching you throughout the coming year
Thank you Laura, nothing beats a row of gladioli. I did it last year and they made such an impact, we used some for cut flowers but I like to leave some for the pollinators 🌱☺️👍
Sounds lovely... can't wait to see them in full bloom..hopefully you can inspire me with ideas too!!
Thank you for the look around and my raised beds are wet enough let alone on the ground. I am growing anything that I have saved seed for in my shed fridge.
♻️Happy gardening, Terry King.
I definitely need to take a leaf out of your book Terry and save more seed this year. Will you be doing Malaga melon again this year?
@amirsallotment8755 no melons this season Amir, growing some giant melons instead, well I will try....🍉
@@terrykingsallotmentgardening looking forward to seeing what you do Terry 😁🍉
@@AmirsAllotment 👍🍉🍉🍉❤️🍉🍉🍉👍😋
Beautiful wonderful relaxing video 😍 with beautiful outdoors 🌳🌿💚💐👍 thank you 😊
Thank you kindly my friend. It means a lot 😀🌱👍
I’m doing Pentland Javelin, Charlotte & Desiree. Plus have hopefully joined in the #SSPC2024 🤞
Very exciting Denise! Charlotte are another one of my favourite ❤️ Good luck with the challenge 😊🌱
Always beautiful birds and magnificent colors, wonderful video.
Thank you so much brother! Really appreciated 😃🌱👍
The potential flooding is such a worry with the river next to you....🫣
The compost is looking lovely and I've seen beans chaff before 😊
Nice to see your potato selection for this year 😀 and yes, dont go licking the potatoes in the garden centre 😂😂😂😂💚🌿
Thanks Maiju, I just wish for weather a little dryer so I can spend a bit more time out and stay clean 😂 I trust you are keeping well and enjoying your garden 🪴 😀
@amirsallotment8755 😀 Yes, nice weather is so important 😊
All is well here, thank you...we had 2 very mixed weather days, but at least allowed me to get a bit of gardening done 💚🌿
Hi Amir, aww lovely Bob the robin. Lovely plot tour. I'm growing Charlotte, Kestrel for the first time and Estima was a mistake as I thought I picked up 2 bags of kestrel 🙄 I grow Jermour French shallots, they are in their second season & saved some for this seasons growing. Lovely video, thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Charlotte and Kestrel will not disappoint Christine, I have tried both and they are super 👌 I don’t have much success with shallots might have to try Jermour 😊🌱
Sharing enjoyed until the end Amir! It's really nice to visit your channel, like it and thank you so much!
Greetings from Italy!!
Thanks so much Alberto 😃🌱 it really means a lot my friend 👍
Great vlog. I look forward to your cutting flower garden. I need to go shopping for spuds. I grow in buckets in my garden. Usual Charlotte, Rooster and I will try a pink one this year, Pink fir apple sound good.
Hello Tracey, I heard pink fir apple have a nutty taste, my first time trying so will be interesting 😊🌱 love the way how Charlotte often come out so clean 😊🌱
Thanks for the mention Amir! I bust out laughing at you telling us not to lick potatoes 😂😂 you are funny amir! Great update! Danny 🌱
Thanks Danny! lol yes don’t lick 👅 to check the colour you will get banned from the garden centre 😂
@@AmirsAllotment 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Amir,
So lovely to see you and Bob 🐦 on the plot. It always amazes me how the beds look visually once all the dead growth is removed and how ready it makes us feel!!
You have chosen a nice selection of spuds...
My first thoughts went to Jesse of the Fast Show....."This year, I'll be mostly growing red po- tate-o's" 😂
I shall expect a clip of you coming out of your shed to announce this in your next video!!!!
Take care, Annie 🐞 🐝 🌱
Haha Annie…… you have given me an idea there💡😂 I do hope you are keeping well?
Hi Amir. We have Cara, pentland javelin and pink fir apple potatoes! Lots of pots for them to go in 👍🏽
Lovely update, here's to the spring ☕️
Rach 🌱👩🏼🌾
Great varieties Rach, it’s so nice to hear the different varieties everyone’s doing! I am thinking depending on space I will need buckets 😊🌱
@@AmirsAllotment I had no idea there were that many haha I see Kerry from Dog on the plot had Orla tatties, which is weird as I walk a dog called Orla and hadn't heard that name before so I might get some 🤣🥔
Pots are fab as you can move them around. 👍🏽
Nice to see what potatoes you are using this year Amir
Thanks Ady, I hope you are keeping well buddy 😊🌱
wonderful harvest - very nice sharing dear friend
Thanks so much dear Sandhya 🤗🌱
Hey Amir, your potato selection is fab!! I grew mine in buckets previously for space reasons but like you I think I'm going to do trenches just how my dad taught me! I'd be interested to see if there is any different taste off those pink fur apples 🍎👀
Hello Laura, I agree one of the traditions I still stick with, trench method, love digging the potatoes out with a Chillington hoe. 😊🌱
Very beautiful 🤩 👍🏻thumbs up ❤❤❤
Thanks so much my friend 😀🌱👍
I'm doing Adirondack Blue and Kennebac.....the first time doing potatoes for me!
They sound great Robin will be following your journey 😊 good luck with them 😊🌱
Great upload 😊as always. Excellent presentation 😊Thank you 😊Stay blessed 🇬🇧 😊
Thanks so much bhai, I hope you are keeping well? 😊🌱👍
Good morning very beautiful morning view Excellent potato growing good work thank for sharing 👍😍😍😍
Thank you so much my friend. Always lovely to hear from you 😊❤
Assalamu Alaikum Aamir bhaiya nice sharing❤❤
Thanks so much dear sister 😊🌱👍
Bob is such a star, really enjoyed this, thank you. I've just been planning my potager for this year and am already chitting potatoes.
Thanks so much, he is the star of the show oh and Daisy my cat, she gets upset if I don’t film her 😂🌱 it’s lovely isn’t it getting ready for spring. I love the French Potager mixing plants and veg, feels so natural that way. I will be doing more of that this year 😃🌱
Asslamoalaikum good morning My dear brother, excellent great work, thanks for sharing ❤
W.Salam mere bhai, thank you. Always great to hear from you
🐝 Thanks for the great video 🌻 just a amazing video!! So in love with little Bob
Thank you so much my friend. Always lovely to hear from you 🐝
Bob is so cute! Amazing how the sunflower is still standing despite the floods. Great choice of potatoes! Pink garlic is one of the nicest garlic! Happy planting! 😄👍💕🌸
Thank you Nanou & Grinch, can’t wait to try the pink garlic 🧄 once the ground dries out I really want to get stuck in on the plot 😊🌱
❤❤❤👌👌👌🌹🌹🤲🤲🤲
Thank you so much sister 😊 bless you ❤
So glad all the water has receded at the allotment level 🙏. Hello Bob 🥰. It’s been tipping it down here again and quite cold so outdoor jobs on hold. Hope your staying well and enjoying your time at the allotment. Happy gardening Amir, Ali ☔️☔️🇨🇦
Hello Ali, oh I need to get sunflowers to you, I haven’t forgotten 😂 In the next couple of weeks I am going to get some seeds out to friends. Do you try melons? I have quite a few different types this year
@@AmirsAllotment not to worry Amir I know it’s all go go at this time I’m late catching up on videos 🤦🏼♀️. I did a few not last year but the year before so sure if you have a few extra 🤭🤭
Hi Amir. I'm growing Caledonia Pearl as my first early, Charlotte as second and Pink Fir Apple and Picasso as mains. I'm also in Digwell Greenfinger's Single Seed Potato Challenge so that usually yields lots of an unknown maincrop (unknown till the results are in anyway). I grow all mine in 25 and 30 litre pots. I top up at the start so no need to remember to earth up. It definitely is an exciting time of year. We are knocking at the door of Spring. Take care. Mags
Hello Mags, you have named some I have not tried, I think I will need to get some tubs as will not have the space on the plot as planning on growing lots of flowers this year 😊🌱👍
It's always lovely to see Bob put in an appearance ♥ I grew Pink Fir Apples last year and yes they were a lovely potato but an awkward shape for peeling. I'm doing no dig again this year and just popping each potato into a hole, filling it in with soil then covering the lot with hay. As they produce leaves I add another layer of hay to ensure no light gets in turning them green. Once the hay has been finished with it becomes a great addition to the compost bin. Does that coffee bean chaff smell nice? I used spent coffee grounds last year to deter slugs and it smelled delicious 😀
Hello Janice, the coffee chaff smells like creamy coffee 😂 just gives soil that soft texture, Bob doesn’t seem to have paired up yet, but he is disappearing for long periods so I’m not sure what he’s up to 😊🌱using hay sounds good, it’s great hearing about different techniques 😊🌱
That's nice you left the sunflower for the birds. The bird looks so cute with
the orange patch. Good to see the allotment💖
Thank you Stacey, he is a cute bird, a Robin we have lots of them in the UK, when he is in a good mood he will land on me 😊🌱
How fun and exciting to see all the green on your allotment!!! ❤ great job with your compost! I’m going to try red potatoes again!
Thanks so lovey to hear from you! My favourite UA-camrs! You always bring a smile, as things are warming up can’t wait to see what you get up to in the garden. By the way I might get some chickens this year 😁🌱
@@AmirsAllotment Oh Amir!!! That would be amazing to get chickens!!! I hope you do!!!💙
Hi Amir a lovely selection of potatoes 🥔 your compost is looking great, I like desiree potatoes and sarpo miri
Thank you Tracy, I remember ur fab potato’s last year 😊❤
Nice 👍 Vlog /ur Allotment is looking awesome…
Thanks bro. Appreciate it 😊🌱
Lovey video, Amir. The coffee bean chaff is a great idea 👍
Thanks Lawrence, need to work on getting more compost on the go
Hi Amir, had a trip down to Gloucester last Saturday, couldn't believe how much flood water was still around. Glad your Plot is drying out!!
I agree, when you get your seed pots it feels like the season is just about to start. I'm growing Epicure and Kestrel again this year. Kestrel make the best roast potatoes. Also trying Home Guard for the first time this year. All will be planted directly into the ground, atb Simon
Hi Simon, it is very wet indeed, I have not been able to do much at my allotment. I am slowly sorting my garden at home, this year will have some veg beds here. I would like a polytunnel at home too, but lots to clear away first, for some reason previous owner planted a lot of laurel and it’s all over the garden. Interesting potatoes, I have tried Kestrel before and Osprey, both did very well, don’t know why they would name potato’s after birds of prey 😂
Awww bob is handsome and has a lot to say 😊.
Our water table is unbelievable. Sorry to see floods nearby. I really hope it eases soon for you all. Great choice of spuds.
I'm signed up for #sspc2024 too.
I Love sunflowers. It's been well used.
Jane
Great to hear from you Jane, things have been busy this weekend and I have not had the chance to visit my plot, I’m hoping to next week, some nice weather would help 😊🌱
Nice sharing dear cute sparrow
Thank you so much 😊🌱👍
❤❤❤
Thank you Ben & Melissa 😊❤
Fab Amir ❤
You've been tempted like me it seems regarding the onion sets 😂
Haha… did u do the same thing? I’m going to watch your video so I can see your garden centre purchases Linda 😁
@@AmirsAllotment 🤗 yes we only went for tarpaulin Amir. I show a few purchases this video and a few in my next video all from the one shop 😂 Danny showed us some tarpaulin for about £1.29 ish but I won't tell you what we actually spent. 😂

I am doing Red Duke of York for the first time so I hope you are right🙂 Glad to see you bought Hermine, I find these outstanding and really keep well.
My first time trying Hermine, so glad to hear it Mike. Red Duke a very nice potato early they are a nice size left in a little longer and they get big. Love them 😋🌱
Fabulous video Amir thankyou so much for sharing.lf only everything grew as good as grass lol.we are at the same stage on our allotment as you are,l think just about everyone has a good brake in the winter months and then its all go...and yes its sooooo exciting.lve managed to make some good compost for this year, worked hard on it since Earley last summer so lm very pleased about that.Im definitely with you on the trench method for potatoes....works great.Talking potatoes the Red Duke Of York never grown them....what are they like and acan you use them for roasting, salads and so on! Happy Gardening Amir lets get our allotments ready 👍🌱🌱🌱💞
Hello Joyce, I am getting seeds over to you before March sowing i promise 😁 I have some lovely cantaloupe melon and water melon seeds to send to you. I can’t wait to hear how they work for you, as you have better climate so I’m expecting bumper harvests 😂 Red Duke are early, but if left in a little longer you get some lovely large red potatoes 🤗🌱
Nice view and nice sharing

Thank you so much sister 😊❤🌱
Nice tour Amir, I would like to send you a couple photos of my plot, the spuds I'm growing this year are Cara, I'm looking out for Sarpo Mira. I normally grow mine in 30L pots I fill them to just below top and put a mulch of straw on top, keeps the moisture in, I will grow a row or two in the ground, but I stopped doing trenches, if they go into the ground I would use a dibber, dib a nice deep hole bit feed then cover, a lot easier than digging trenches out, Steve Colwell
Hi Steve, I would love to see your plot, my email is in my channel description. Great to know how you grow yours, I would like to try both methods and do some in buckets also this year.
I’ve never seen the chaff from roasted coffee beans before. Fascinating. Does it smell like coffee? ❤
Licking potatoes to find out the colour 😂
I’ve got Charlotte, Sarpo Mira, Pink Fir Apple, King Edward’s, International Kidney… I can’t recall what else 😅
You have some lovely varieties there. I’m growing in buckets I think
Hi Clare, it does smell amazing like roasted coffee, the texture is not like saw dust it’s really soft and fluffy. If we can get some dry weather, I would really like to get cracking on my allotment 😊🌱
@@AmirsAllotment it’s been horrendous weather. I have a business that relies on good ground. It’s been closed since the end of October. 😭
@@TheFarmyardGarden sorry to hear that Clare. I really hope things turn a corner for you very soon!

Looking forward to see the progression over the coming year. Are you growing tomatoes? 🍅
I will be yes definitely, similar to last year lots of Italian varieties, beefsteaks and plum tomatoes, we had lots and even stuffed some of the larger varieties 😁🍅
Nice update Amir. What do you cover the compost bays with? Nice to see what potatoes you’ve got. I’ve not picked any of mine up yet, but might see about the ones that you’ve mentioned. I tend to grow my potatoes in bags, just so can move them around and I can use my beds for other crops.
Hi Mark, I have a small roll of Lino I just place on top of the bays, I really need to update the compost bays this year. Good tip with the bags, I might have to try that! 😊🌱👍
The bags are good and easy to harvest out - only problem is you can’t grow as many as if you were doing straight into ground.

I'm your new subscriber, enjoying your great video. Wishing you great health & abundant success 🍃🥔🍃🪹🐦
Hello and a big welcome to you! Thanks for following along on my gardening journey 🤗🌱
Amur loving the vlogs you have a very calming voice, can I ask what the breed of your cat is as it is stunning and seems a very good natured cat .
Hello Tina, thank you for your kind message. Daisy is a mink bengal. She can be active, but she is cuddly, she loves cuddles with everyone in the family, especially my 9 year old son. 😊🌱👍
Thank you for answering she is lovely, keep up the videos 👍🏻
Casablanca, Winston, Kestrel, Charlotte, Pink Fir Apple, Java, Picasso, and the SSPC2024 spud 🤣
Never tried the PFA roasted a bit too small IMHO.
Hilling the potatoes is a blast from the past really. 1E & 2E do not need it as they are determinate - all spuds grow on the same level. Hilling can be used to keep the seed spud warmer (less soil above) but it can also work the other way if it gets too cold.
Great advice Steve, Kestrel was another I have tried before and it was a great potato, prolific 😊🌱👍
@@AmirsAllotment The Picasso yielded 27.5kg from onesingle seed potato in the 2022 SSPC competition!
@@DigwellGreenfingersI better look out for that one Steve 😊🌱 will have to get buckets otherwise can see myself running out of space 😂
Sorry it changed your name I’ll try again Amir
That’s ok Tina, I’m so glad you enjoy the videos 😊🌱👍
