When I first went there I was offered drugs constantly at the skatepark near la 70. Admittedly I did cave in. I’m not saying that people going there to do drugs is the problem, rather western tourists bringing their trash vibe to the area and trying to make it into Miami or something.
No offence, but if you go down there to party and do drugs what do you expect??? Maybe if you step outside the La Provenza and Parque Llaras bubble your take would be different. As a regular traveller to Medellin, mine certainly is.
Bro, my entire country of Canada has had the same thing happen over the last 10 years. Everywhere is over run by foreigners and changed completely. This includes people from Latin America and everywhere else. So, as far as I'm concerned, this is the way of the world and no one country can now say they don't want foreigners because I guarantee their people have driven up rent and food prices in my country.
The difference is that many people who immigrate here on Canada do it illegally. Without papers or they have papers but they misuse it (example students who don't go to school and just work or tourists who won't come back home and for sure they work). So the government from here can perfectly get rid of them by deporting them. In Colombia it's different, they can't be deported as the majority (I'd say 99% of them) don't even need a visa to go there as they can perfectly go as tourists and work in jobs from their country. The problem is that those jobs income are even over 20 times the minimum wage and since they don't work for a local employer they don't have to pay any income tax.
I ❤ Medellin. 2011 was the 1st time back. Very few gringos back then and have returned about 15 times since. I was there in March 2024 and I think they are cleanning up Provenza and Parque Lleras. No workung girls allowed or party activity, for the better and are screanning foreign tourists better, which is good. But, get out of the tourist areas and it's very Colombian. There is alot more to Medellin than Parque Lleras and Provenza.
I go there often and I don't know what are you talking about. I dont even see that many gringos in laurelles. However, I am not into nightlife so maybe that's why.
Doesnt matter what country you are in, the nightlife with clubs and what not never attract "high quality people". There is a youtuber that goes from country to country throwing parties where the food, booze and drugs are free for the women, and he keeps complaining how only low quality women (and men) show up. But then again hes not exactly high quality himself
I lived in Medellin for a couple years in the Santa Monica neighborhood hardly any gringos there. The problem with Medellin is too many Men coming just to get laid. If you live in an American area there's actually more crime there then in the Colombian neighborhood. I moved to a small town outside of Periera only American in the neighborhood. Growing coffee and these beautiful mountains. If you come to Columbia don't bring your ego and remember when you're in Columbia live like a Colombian.
Over tourism by the wrong kind of people and you were one of them too your first time so others doing now what you did then! But I agree, after COVID it has changed for the worst and even was changing before. Your video is like one mule calling another mule an ass…
Respectfully speaking as someone who spends prolonged periods of time in Medellin living. When you say you can't recommend Medellin I think you are absolutely right. Hearing you speak I can tell that you haven't really moved around the city much other than the Touristy areas. If you are basing your experience from there then you are right. Tell people not to come. You're in the gringo bubble mate, get out of it. You'll miss out and also mislead people at the same time.
No I have been around the city plenty. Most of it is a dump. The obvious tourist zone el poblado I only stepped foot in once. I would always stay in laureles, which is becoming the new poblado I guess. Other foreigners seem to like envigado, which felt like a bland poblado suburb to me. Many of the neighborhoods are impoverished beyond belief and not a good idea to go to at all. It is sad and disturbing when you see the new developments in comparison. On another note I don’t like how Americans take most of the blame for the over tourism when I’ve met equally fowl people from Europe
I would say Covid really started the decline of Medellin. In 2019 I really enjoyed visiting. In 2021 not as much because everyone had masks on and they were locking everyone inside on the weekends. When I last visited end of 2023 I didn’t like it at all and la 70 felt more like Miami
Dude... you were part of the problem. You probably didn't notice it before because you were drugged up the whole time... smh

I stayed mostly in laureles. I really enjoyed going there up to a year ago, last two years city has changed a lot

Thank you for this. This guy’s got the unmitigated gaul to decry the very things he used to do!
3:03 Go away gringo signs in Mexico? What city??
You mentioned you were going there for drugs too so that's weird or atleast every time you went there you were binging drugs.

I agree
Thankfully your experience is not everyones. You probably were in Poblado
With no hsbla Español.
Habla
Hmmm. I do not see an issue there. My fiancé lives in Bello and I enjoy my time with her.
Bello hasn’t been hit as hard with overtourism as Medellin
has been for awhile now

LMAO
THANKS AGAIN AMIGO FOR BEING HONEST
