Thank you Stephen. I really enjoy my Sunset Orange Aero. The snap of closing the cap is one of the more satisfying things in this brief and fragile life.

Interesting brand. Some nice pens. I like the springy nib too.
    Thanks for reviewing it.

"Underrated" = Writes far better than a "Visconti Philosphia Firenze Suprema Ultima Extra Classica Limited Edition" but costs a fraction of the latter.

I have the brown model with a steel nib which writes beautifully , i find Diplomat nibs are very well tuned. I'm not so keen on the finish on this model but i'm sure many will like the finish its just not my cup of tea.
    Thanks for the review

Thanks for the review... I like the Aero models specially the brown one, the shape is very smart and appeals to me. The only thing that stops me buying the pen, and this applies to any pen for myself is the pop off or pull off cap. I used pop offs at work when I used to write loads and they always got to wobble on me...maybe it was my heavy usage but it would be great if the cap screwed off.
The ink looked great but that could be my somewhat over saturated monitor.
    Thanks again Doc...your ACE
Best wishes to all pen people.

A very nice pen you don’t have to worry unduly about getting scratched with everyday use.

This is a very interesting pen in the sense of its own asthetics. if you really wanted to, you could give this to someone at christmas but if you rather not give it to them yet and dont want to wrap it, you could probably hang it from the christmas tree and blend it in with the other ornimnents assuming you have the same styleistic choices as my mother.

Thanks for the review Stephen. The orange one is on my list, and I had also looked at your previous review (of the black one), and this one has just "pushed me over the edge". Can you remember how the steel nib compares to the gold nib (yes, I know it was a while ago).

I bought an Aero about a year ago because I was intrigued with the Sunset Orange color, and of course the unique shape. I found it to sit well in my hand, and the length is fine unposted. However, I found that the stability of the pen in my hand was not very good. I think the grooves provide less surface contact, thus less grip as it rests in the cup of the hand. Also, the grip seemed more slippery, though it was a rougher finish than the Excellence grips. I have three Excellence A's, two gold, one steel nib, and I love them. Shopping around you can find them at a good price for the quality you get. The nibs on Diplomats seem to be some of the best out there.

Thanks for the review. I've been looking at this pen and your review answered most of my questions.

Purchased a brown model with 14K fine nib on Massdrop. Writes very nicely, and great original styling, However, after very little use, the clip is now loose and swaying from side to side, an O ring fell out of the cap, making the closure loose, the logo completely rubbed off the top of the cap, and I am now worried about the durablility of the anodized finish, with a couple of chips appearing for no apparent reason- no drops or dings. Are these actually made in Germany?

gwalaus I get the distinct impression, from reading various reports, that the Excellence range are much higher quality. It’s exactly why I won’t buy an Aero but may buy an Excellence. Germans are great engineers and manufacturers but some products don’t reflect that. For example, my Lamy Aion is an atrocious writer. Had to send it back today...

Is the barrel end of the pen meant to be an iPad stylus?

Normally shiny silver coloured metal doesn't appeal to me but with the style and theme of this pen it looks really cool, like an aircraft fuselage before it is painted. My A - level product design project was a pen display stand which took the shape of a zeppelin skeleton so I will have to buy one of these to put on it! Just can't decide between this raw aluminium finish and the orange version. Can anyone comment on the quality and durability of the anodisation on the orange pen?

De camera mag iets omlaag en verder van je af. Er mag iets meer torso gezien worden ipv schouders met hoofd. Heel onnatuurlijk. Fijn nieuw achtergond!

Thanks. I've had one of these for several years now and, while tempted to add a second finish (burnt orange), I'll probably pass for a few reasons. First, I personally find the section a bit slippery so I have to adjust my grip pretty frequently. Second, the section and the barrel start unscrewing when I do that so I often have to give the barrel a small twist. (BTW, thanks for the suggestion to give it a firm twist -- perhaps I'll try that). Third is cost. I can find it pretty easily for ~ $150USD today but that price point opens it up to a lot of steel nib competition.

Germans always build like a tank .. hence the metal box! Nice pen.

I've been wanting an Aero in orange, but when I saw the raw aluminum finish at the Philly Pen Show, I was torn. I love the fine milling texture on the raw body/cap. I'm going to be snagging one before too long.

I have a Brown Aero ....that nib is superb ... Section a bit too narrow for long writing sessions for me ... But overall a great pen ...
