Norm Macdonald was brilliant. He didn’t care if a joke landed or not, if he thought it was funny he’d go for it. The Bob Saget roast was comedy gold. I find it still hard to believe that he’s gone.
Don't forget Joan is the voice of Jessie from Toy Story she probably makes the majority of her income from royalties from that series, much like how RDJ makes his from the MCU lol. Oh and she was mom in Mars Need Moms 😂😅
Bob Saget directed a movie called Dirty Work with Norm, Artie Lange, Chevy Chase and Shooter Mcgavin with cameos by Adam Sandler, Gary Coleman and IMO the best Chris Farley has ever been. I miss the 90's.
I love that movie, sure it's low brow, stupid humor, but damn there's some quotable lines, and Norm at his finest, that awkward, lovable idiot character.
Here's the thing, Lorne Micheals makes the set of SNL a living Hell. This was the topic of the Joe Rogan podcast last week and has been the topic on several episodes of the Howard Stern Show. Joe Rogan said Phil Heartman used to tell him some Nightmare conditions about working on SNL. So, yeah, I can see how these people got fired for not going along with the bullshit conditions on SNL.
@theylied1776 - I think most of these firings were due to other NBC executives' decisions, not Lorne Michaels... The executives sometimes make some boneheaded decisions. Just look at the Tonight Show. They essentially force Jay Leno out prematurely in 2009 because they thought he couldn't maintain the #1 late night slot, and as soon as Conan takes over, ratings plummet. Then they bring Jay back and ratings are back up.
About 1/2 the people on the list even honorable mentions I didn't know were SNL alumni and the SNL alumni I'm aware of (Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Sarah Silverman, Chris Farley), I thought they left on their own terms or when their contracts expired
I mean, how can you really be surprised about Damon Wayans being insubortinate? The guy is a madman, in the best way possible. You just let him do his thing, that's some easy time off for the writers.
The tribute song that Adam Sandler wrote and performed about Chris Farley is definitely on the list of songs that will make me cry uncontrollably every time.
He to real ... look at Paul Mooney ... Hollywood don’t like when black people tell it how it is or refuse to let the entertainment business control us 😅🤷🏿♂️
The sketch with sandler, Farley and a couple others that got let go of them on their last episode jumping into a moat of sharks was foreshadowing like nothing else
Well, some of these female performers came in at the peak of Kristen Wiig. It so hard for them to compete with Wiig, which was a force of nature back then. In the case of Jenny Slater, she slipped out the dirty word only made it easier to dismiss her.
Thats not exactly true. There was like a big one in around 2012-2013 when hader, wiig, armisen, samberg, sudeikis etc left, but they had been on closer to 10 seasons that 4-5, and another in 2022 when like 9 cast members left, but again cecily strong, kate mckinnon etc had been on far longer than 4-5 seasons
I think Chris Farley and Adam Sandler were fired cause 94 and 95 were tough times for SNL. The show had a few bad reviews at the time so they blamed it on Chris and Adam and fired them Edit: Nobody knew Chris Farley was on drugs before he died, so that wasn't the reason for his termination
@@Jamessmith-xk3fh Yep, Adam Sandler didn't really care after Happy Gilmore though, so SNL only helped him launch his movie career Adam said no hard feelings after that
I'm kinda glad most of these found success after their time on SNL. Although R.I.P Chris Farley. I barely knew you until pretty recently but you are amazing
Chris Rock he is the coolest and iconic actor comedian actor in the world and his jokes of the SNL are very funny and hilarious and he should’ve not fired
To be fair, aside from his spot on impressions, Jay Pharaoh never really brought anything new or original to the show, like an original recurring character or anything other than being the goofy black side character. The writers had a hard time trying to utilize him to the fullest and eventually gave up to give other aspiring cast members a chance. People overlook how much the writers are responsible for whether or not to fire a cast member.
It's so annoying that you don't show in what season or year an actor performed. We know SNL started in 1975 and is still ongoing. But from when to when did this happen?

Chris Rock actually wasn't fired. He left on his own after three frustrating seasons for him. In fact I believe he still had another year left on his contract. You also forgot to mention Jon Lovitz, Nora Dunn and Charles Rocket. Their termination stories are the most interesting.
I read Jay Mohr's book on his time on SNL and I am sorry I did. At some times he was understandably hurt but his feuding with other guests hosts probably made him a target.
I may actually agree with Sarah Silverman on *some* subjects. But lately she just seems to be putting out tearful apologies and shutting down criticism by decrying all of it as "trolls".
Without a doubt, Adam Sandler is the most prolific on this list, not Chris Rock... Adam Sandler gets Chris Rock roles on his movies, not the other way around...
Cusack and Downey weren't huge players on SNL; they became famous later. Riggle skipped off the surface, as did Rock, Wayans, Silverman, and Louis-Dreyfus. McDonald, however, was BIG on SNL. He's the biggest firing, followed by Farley and Sandler. And who the heck is Jenny Slate? Rock has become the biggest star (with Downey and Sandler). But the biggest FIRING is McDonald.
