Both sound good. Ishimori sounds like it gives you more response, adding a touch of brightness. Prefer the selmer in the comparison but wouldn't notice on a gig.

There is SOME difference here. What exactly... I'm not sure. Volume, presence, frequency, comfort, bright, dark, focus, spread lol. No post processing done on the mic here... raw. You be the judge...

They both sound good, but the Ishimori sounds brighter than the Selmer, to me ... the Selmer fills the sound more.

The Ishimori sounds like its more present and has a clearer speaking voice.

The Selmer had a sweeter sound than the Ishimori

Osmany Choven absolutely, Selmer is darker than Ishimori but the latter is silver whereas Selmer is gold plated brass so not really surprising

The Selmer was actually fatter and more round. It sounded like it even responds better. The Ishimori has less lows. The first time I listened to the video however, I almost couldn't hear a difference.

First to give a thumbs up.👍🏽. I couldn’t tell the difference. I personally use a Theo Wanne Gaia 2 . My teacher is not well off, and at times used a plumbers hose clamp as a ligature. He’s a street musician.

A lot of people say that ligature is don’t make a difference, but the reality is they make ALOT of difference.

The ishimori definitely livens your sound. More punch, clarity, purity. I also like some of the more breathy more diluted of the selmer. Either way you are certainly paying great respect to Mr. Henderson... you sound great no matter what.

To me the Ishimori allows the reed to vibrate more freely...which I think is what is bringing out the overtones. The Selmer sounds to me like it’s restricting the reed’s vibration.

Ishimori sounds clearer and more focused.

The difference is audible and I think the Ishimori let more overtones out, more mids too!

4 years late! But I’ve been checking out the Selmer 2 screw again myself, I think there is something extra in the sound with those. Other ligs like the ishimori and some others I’ve used might be more free blowing, but they do seem slightly different, louder maybe but loses something in the middle of the sound spectrum to me. Hard to hear it, but I feel it when playing.

Ishimori sounds a tad brighter. And as if it would make the reed softer...

I just brought your album on iTunes... real fans buy the album and fake ones download it on Spotify or illegally

I get it. I feel a huge difference....because that little difference in tone would alter my inner hearing and change my way of addressing the music. At first the seller sounded more robust, more character, a tad more edge. And the silver, sounded almost too focused...too trained. The Selmer seems to let more brightness through, airy brightness, good brightness. Ishi seems all tone and less flexible in color flexibility. You seemed to be more expressive and more dynamic, more musical on the Selmer.

Actually - the reed seem not to be aligned to the tip in the exact same way after your switch. That could cause much more difference than the switch of ligature ;)

Hi from London :) Have u tried the Rovner platinum lig? I got one 6 days ago and I'm very impressed. It offers the ease of production of those leather/fabric ligs but with the edge of a metal one. Just what I was looking for. Be interested on you're impressions (no pun intended) ......

Where did you get that Selmer 2 screw? The ones with Made in France are the better ones - with the “i” in in lowercase. Do you know when they stopped making those? Yours seems to be brand new.

What do you practice to get so good? When your playing as fast as you do sometimes what are you playing? If they come from exercises or books then what books? I find myself trying to improv faster and faster but I end up feeling like there’s nowhere else to go on the horn after like a solid second. Are there like some bebop or exercise books I should look into?

I think the Ishi gave you a bit more bottom. Is worth the extra bucks? Ask the person in the audience after a few drinks.

There's so many forms of bias and preconceptions involved with these comparisons that they're honestly quite useless.
Only a true double blind test could reveal substantial sonic differences. That means, both you and the listener need to be unaware of what gear is being played.
You sound great though! Thumbs up for that!

you're a good player, but seriously, ligature differences are so overrated. just taking the sax out of your mouth and starting to play again has more variation than the difference between these 2. back to shedding...

    • @StantawnKendrick
      @StantawnKendrick  5 років тому +2

this took less than 3 mins out of my 3+ hours of shed time.... but thanks lol
