      Grandpa is still being extremely generous with the $1200/mo rent. OP didn't mention anyone sharing a room so we can safely assume they live in a 6 bedroom (2 offices, master, & 3 kids) house, aka a friggin huuuuge possibly a mcmansion. $1200 is dirt cheap for a house that big. If they were all working adults they would only be paying $200 each that's practically free.

    so, Dad can't support himself, charges daughter a significant rent, to subsidize his life. They also have her doing "chores" (who wants to bet she was doing a majority of the chores), and then kicks her out. OP doesn't think it was an "evil stepmom" issue, but she is treated poorly when grandpa gets involved. Oh, honey, it is most certainly an evil stepmom issue. 100 percent. Grandpa rocks. He even set up an educational fund for the step sister, that is one stand up guy. Grandpa is teaching dad a, long overdue, lesson. If OP had moved back she would have been the built in, default, babysitter and maid. She is better off staying where she is. If dad can't resume a decent relationship she is well rid of him.

Took care of the dogs for a few days, then left - and left the wrong key for me, dogs locked in the house, AC off and on a 90+ degree day. I had to get a locksmith so her dogs wouldn't die in the heat. Pretty sure it was an intentional oops to get back at her but still seem like the good guy.

      Ok thank you. it kinda of annoys me when they explain why they are using a throwaway. It seems like it would make it easier for the people in their life to put two and two together.

    • @j_g9109
      @j_g9109 4 місяці тому +9

      @@jr5557I think the main reason people clarify is because people sometimes use the fact an account is new as “proof” that a story is fake.
      Making a new account for a post about something private and/or embarrassing makes perfect sense to me, but I guess some find it suspicious.

    • @Rose_Bride
      @Rose_Bride 4 місяці тому

      The reason people mention that they are using a throwaway is because if they DON'T, Redditers will accuse them of trying to hide their main account in order to "misrepresent" (or LIE) about details in order to make themselves seem innocent or their actions (which are often bad) _justified._ Having a brand new account while posting in *AITA* or *Relationship Advice* is IMMEDIATELY viewed with suspicion in the Reddit community by many. Lots of people tend to make random posts about their lives which have the (often unintended effect) of revealing what type of person they are.
      Redditers tend to use an OP's past post history to gauge their character in order to determine whether or not they "deserve" to be deemed the "@$$hole", for their actions or whether this was just a one off incident and they were simply reacting to being provoked in this situation. If their post history shows that they have a habit of just being an awful person, then they will get called out. Or sometimes, Redditers will discover lies in their post due to contradictions in their post history, etc. As a result of this, some OP's will use a throwaway to try to hide their post history for this very reason, so that they can't be judged based on their past actions. There are also people who use throwaway because they have friends/family who know of and lurk on their main profile.

    • @j_g9109
      @j_g9109 4 місяці тому +7

      Yeah, Reddit’s weird though (shocking, I know lol). Making a throwaway account for something private makes complete sense, but a lot of people will use a new account’s age as “proof” the story is fake.
      That makes some posters feel like they need to explain why their account is new, even though, in my opinion, it should be pretty f-ing obvious why someone would want to create a new account so their “My boyfriend wants me to clean him like a cat” post isn’t connected to the account that their friends & family know.

    Story 1: It's just a big shame that Op got a parent and a step parent like this. It sounds like Op had such a great big sisterly relationship with the step sister, helping with homework and talking about personal things, which is what people only really do if they feel close. But instead of being happy that the kids from previous relationships are getting along, these 'parents' tried their best to make Op feel like less than even second fiddle to the kids they were making together. And even trying to squeeze out rent money from a freshly adult Op when they were living in their mc-mansiony house for free! That just screams 'I wasn't prepared for how much all my kids would cost me, so now I'm trying to get the money needed from my older kids' as if your kids have to be the fall guy for your mistakes. And those 'parent's' definitely don't want Op back in the house because they feel bad about what they did. They definitely want Op back in the house because they think it will get Grandpa off their backs, and they're probably going to try push some of the baby responsibilities onto Op and possibly try to squeeze money out of Op again, only this time with saying 'It's for your little siblings! Don't be greedy!'
    After update: Aww, grandpa just sounds like the sweetest person. Making a fund for the step-sis even though she isn't his by blood...There's a lot of people who wouldn't do this for family they don't consider theirs. But it also sounds like Op's 'dear ole dad' was taking advantage of grandpa willingness to help family for a LONG time. Not even having any savings when you have 4 kids to take care of?? BRUH. And Op should definitely warn their step-sis about the house not belonging to Dad. Maybe he won't try since step-sis seems to fit with the image of his 'perfect' new family, but you never know how far greed will go, especially after what Dad pulled on Op.

    Story 1: It's obvious that Dad picked his new life with step-mum over his already existing child. Kick-ass Aunt and Grandpa love these people. Don't move back in, studying plus a new baby in the house isn't an ideal combo. Also, I'd be suspicious about sudden babysitting duties if I'd move back in. I'd visit the kids and plan outings with them if that's what they really wanted but I'd be washing my hands of Dad and Step-mum. Wait... This sounds a lot like the first "Knives Out" movie holding family under grandpa's thumb, masked by kindness (just a random thought in my head). Grandpa gave away money with a cost, a secret or not-so-secret price tag and can demand it back anytime.
    Update: So the OP didn't move back and Dad caved to the new deal. You're better off not living with people who can't manage money. Don't rub your dad's situation in his face. Dad sounds like a narc, why he does what he does, he doesn't know.

    Op is not "dumb" for not knowing earlier, who would think their adult father could not pay any of his own bills. She is incredibly naive if she falls for anymore of her fathers attempts to make up, but it seems she can see through him now. That guy is such an AH

    Last story.. circa early 90's if you had a logo or name tag on a fast food uniform "knit top" you always had holes. In my five years of ff not one time was I questioned, or written up and instead had my shirts replaced for free. I also think this is why most ff places switched to tshirts instead of knit, because those things ran like cheap pantyhose. I was also never written up for cuffs on pants. It was ff and you were lucky to make your rent, pay for a cheap meal and gas to return to work and they knew it.

    How long until we hear about how the stepmother was the driving force behind all this? It strikes me as odd that a father, who knows that he lives off the kindness of his dead wife's parents, would decide to kick out his only link to his deceased wife without some prodding from his new wife. I just wonder if the stepmother knew that she was telling her husband to bite the hand that (literally) feeds them.
    Also, grandpa is a treasure! What a kind man!

    I had a chief when I was in the navy yelled at me that I was out of uniform because I was not wearing my jacket. I told her that it was in daily orders that jackets were optional and pointed to the copy of the orders pinned behind her. Luckily I had read the orders that morning as I was bored. There was nothing she could do.

    Wow! 😳 OP needs to know that greedy A-hole is not her father, he's just a sperm donor. ಠ︵ಠ Leeching of Grandpa and kicking out his own daughter when he had plenty of rooms in the house for the new baby?! I know it's his house, his rules, but seriously, I feel like he was trying to get rid of OP and replace her with this new family. Shame on him! 😡 Grandpa on the other hand is a legend! 💖 Good for him teaching Dad a lesson. And I'm so happy OP is doing well in her new house. 😊

    Story 1 - I absolutely hate the entitlement of parents who tell their teenage children that just because they turned 18, they're now an adult and are expected to support themselves or pay rent. I'm glad OP's grandfather had her back. It's a wonder that someone as selfish and greedy as OP's dad came from someone as generous as her grandfather. Dad overplayed his hand, using his oldest child to fund his life with his do-overs. Now with a brand new baby, has to pay back that money he scammed from his kid AND basically OP's rent? Soooooo delicious!

    If op misses their siblings they can offer to babysit for free, don’t let it go overboard, do it on your own terms, when you got free time and want to hang out with the kids. Even better if you have weekends free, that way they can stay over at ops house and the parents don’t have to worry about feeding them for a few days.
    Just to be nice because every parent can do with free time and that way op gets to hang with their siblings. It’s best op stays where they are, and make other plans to help them out a lil, because at the end of the day, dad made his bed now he can lay in it, who knows maybe talk to grandpa about lowering the rent for dad just to say you don’t want your siblings suffering too much.😅

    NTA: Your father treated you like dirt and had the power to stop. He didn't. You were already grieving, he then demanded you pay rent, then he threw you out. Your grandfather is looking out for you and making it clear to your father that there are consequences to actions. Think of it as a valuable life lesson that will help your father grow as a person. P.S. -your stepmother did not object to the way your father treated you. She is as bad.

    S1: even without the revelation that grandpa was paying for the house…. It’s a pretty dick move to charge a kid rent the day they turn 18, without that being understood. It’s even more of a dick move to charge them rent when you’re gonna have another kid and just kick the oldest out with 2 months notice. The only exception I can think of is that you charge them rent to teach them to be independent, but put all that rent money into a savings account you can hand back to them, to help get them started on their own.

    So, he lives basically rent free in a home owned by his father and tried to scam money off his own daughter under the disguise of 'being an adult' I would have called his ass out to everyone and how he basically stole money from his own kid just to spend it on his new family. From the sounds of it, he prefer his new family over op, and now he is suffering because he had to real good and easy, now he paying the price, literally.

    Sadly, many men stop loving their children, or love them less, when he stops loving their mother or moves on to another partner. It is an awful flaw and nothing to do with the child personally. Don’t run yourself ragged trying to get his love and attention. He will not give it. Please focus on taking care of yourself and let that coldhearted father rot. Go find a kind father figure to replace him just like he replaced you.

    OP, with all this, I’m not sure if your father even loves you. I hope you don’t cling on the pity situation that he’s the only parent you have. Your step mother, if she’s not like this to you before then she’s turning into that evil stepmom slaving out Cinderella. Good thing your sister is not as evil as her mother. Hopefully never will.
